"Always On" data is NOT unlimited.

With GiffGaff, 3G/4G speeds are rubbish anyway, and after using the 6GB allowance at "full speed", your speeds are throttled massively. So much so that only browsing the web and sending emails is allowed. No videos, no streaming music. That my friend, is NOT unlimited data.

Hmm. Got mine today.
Not been impressed with lots of things. The Internet order page says 30 day contract. The email receipt said 30 month contract.

Got email saying register your device now. Kept coming up with error went onto live chat they said it's too early to register. I said well why send out an email then?

Item arrived Tuesday morning. The sim card loose in the bag not in an envelope just rolling around in the bag.

No signal on box red light for 10 minutes.

Read the instructions and it said if any problems you might need to register your sim 1st. ??

If so visit Vodafone mobile.wifi which is a bit strange as this Web address will only work when you mobile broadband is working.

So I went onto chat and after 10 minutes of security checks eventually it was after activated.

I checked my location post code on the website and apart from a little tiny pixel here and there the coverage is full 4G.

Anyway I downloaded the app which amazingly DOESN'T tell you how much data you got left. It said I was using 3g. Did a speed test I got 3mb. Which is OK. then it changed to 3g+ ooh what is the speed now 0.91meg on the speed test app.

I went out into the front garden, back garden all around the house no 4G.

Really disappointed with this.

Oh yeah 1 more thing on the Web chat there is a picture of a lovely blonde aged about 25 . Of the 3 times I have contacted chat I have got Arintha. Chagnosta and Dalwarn. I don't think any of those are her. Why on earth is that picture there ?

I'm sorry but your final comment made me chuckle.
You do know the chat images are highly generic? They're actors who may not necessarily work for Vodafone. Nearly all companies with live chat services do this.

O2 have a similar deal. I changed my contract to sim only and now pay £20 a month (tied in for 12 months) for unlimited texts/calls with 20GB data (tethering works) so quite happy
zirk to fingerman
28 Nov 16 #57
How can £20 for 20gb be a similar deal, thats £1 per gb, the Vodaoffer is £25 for 50gb, 50p per gb.

These are not Black Friday deals there current Vodafone offerings.

Personally I never had an issue with Vodafone Coverage, Most of the Networks are as good or as bad as each other these days, if you live out in the sticks then you need to choose your Network accordingly, as they will differ.

25 quid for 50gb is a cracking deal, with Vodafone there is no restrictions, on Tethering, Data Use, which phone , Tablet, MiFi etc, if the Sim fits and theres 4G, HSPDA, 3G coverage it will work.

Other one worth considering is EE currently £30.50 for 64gb.
flumpy_85
28 Nov 16 #54
are you able to buy this and not use it for months and just use it say 6 months down the line or must you use the data within a set time frame
preecey to flumpy_85
28 Nov 16 #55
It's a contract, so the monthly 30GB/50GB data allowance refreshes every month. Plus the monthly billing period starts from the day you receive the SIM, not from when it's activated.

So theoretically you could not use it for months and only use it six months down the line but by then you'd have paid so much on a contract you hadn't used, it would not be worth it.

These SIMs are nothing like the EE 100GB SIMs, which were completely Pay As You Go.

Don't expect any help with Vodafone if you have a problem, you will be waiting forever on the phone or on the chat to get even a sniff of effort to try to fix your problem... and they will probably overcharge you as well at some point.

I picked up a second EE Extra SIM plan 1m with Double Data SOC 64GB for £28 at the beginning of November so I now have 128GB for £56. This Vodafone deal doesn't seem so hot.

The UK developed earlier so its living with older tech and mainly because Margaret Thatcher stopped it from happening:

http://www.techradar.com/news/world-of-tech/how-the-uk-lost-the-broadband-race-in-1990-1224784

People moan about having crap internet speed but they either always have had crap internet speed but now expect more from their line. OR they moved into their house looking at how amazing it is in a great location but once they have sorted everything out paying hundreds of pounds for all sorts they think oh i need internet the questionably single most important thing in their life! but failed to look into this before moving in! Then they want to pay £0 for the best premium service that never fails, and they live 10km from the exchange, and expect A million Jigglybit speeds to their rubbish computer in the loft with the router sitting in the front room but its still BTs fault!

I get between 1.3mb and 2mb fibre (yes fibre) at home because the cabinet I'm connected to is a few miles away, so it comes the rest of the way via copper wire and slows down to nearly unusable. I (and my neighbours) have been fighting with Sky/BT and Openreach (what a waste of a company!!!!) for months to get something done but nothing is happening because it needs a complete change in infrastructure.

EE have had my local mast down for over a year making that of no use so my EE wifi 4G devices were returned to them a year ago.

This is a great option to keep me going with some faster speed internet for my Android Box/Kodi, Sky movies, PC etc. Great find, thank you. Going to sign up now!
mlc2010 to FlyGuyUK

Probably singular Orange base station, where 3 has good coverage but EE a bit poor Orange transmitters are still took offline where 3 does not see it being worthwhile adding a 3 transmitter on site - thats one of the problems with MBNL being jointly owned it is not a 50/50 partnership in planning just 50/50 financially owned. My local Orange transmitter was always poor, local T-Mobile access was a win for me.

There are issues city wide where my old man lives on EE due to upgrades still happening on Orange base stations not closed down, the MBNL bumf that the integration has finished is bull, the only thing that happened was software updates stopped showing roaming on ALL base stations, the hardware upgrades are still very much ongoing. EE have admitted such, left contract mid way because they knew that switching off roaming on old Orange base stations to resolve call failed issues was a joke as coverage became terrible.

50gb?? This is insanity. I love it.

It's like when ASDA kept pushing the fuel prices down and everyone else had to follow suit.

I think EE's 32GB for £14.50 caused some waves.

26 Nov 16 #36
In an ideal world I'd love to see 4G mobile broadband services becoming mainstream, with allowances like 50GB for £20, 100GB for £30 etc on a 30 day contract.

Not everyone likes contracts (myself included), which is why I ditched my landline and fixed line broadband a long time ago. I've been relying on a Three 30 day contract SIM with All You Can Eat data and 30GB of hotspot allowance for a long time now and haven't looked back at ADSL/VDSL services.

I feel 4G has matured enough now to provide a solid replacement to standard broadband offerings. Thankfully the prices are coming down.

Expensive if you step outside their "included roaming" zone. Whilst you're within it, it's pretty reasonable. I was using 4G quite happily in Canada for a fiver a day.

Yes! Their 4G coverage is excellent! I have been several countries in the last six months in their 'Europe Zone' and I always received fast 4G. Not sure if this plan includes it however I get at no additional cost 4gb of roaming data in Europe. I have no idea outside of Europe though what they're like as I use local SIMs

If you have not used vodafone before I would recommend talking to people that do in your local area. I have used vodafone all over the south west for 6+ years now and the signal is so hit and miss. That's just not true. I've found if you get transcripts for all online chats and record absolutely every other conversation you have with them and spend hours on hold listening to scratchy xmas tunes and then spend even longer in stores showing them proof of the transcripts because their complaints system can't apparently receive emails then they're almost as good as dealing with any other company.

I'm currently dealing with Vodafone chat, to cancel my contract. I used to get full 4G outside my workplace, I now get no data signal, even at home, just a set of bars with an exclamation mark. It was spot on for the first 75% of my contract but is now unusable, considering I specifically took out a bundle with high data allowance. Originally there was some 'work' going on locally which was the cause of the poor signal when it first started, but that was months ago and there is no longer any sign of any 'work' taking place that would explain the fact I can't use any of my data allowance (my mobile data this month shows 0mb usage).

So I'm going to try someone else! Everyone else may have different experiences, but I fail to see how Vodafone's signal for the local area can go from full 4G to no internet whatsoever considering it's a town centre and there's phone masts approx 100m from me, mounted up on the water tower

This deal being a 'rolling 30 day' is good news, so that when they decide to bin your 4G service as well, you aren't stuck with a 24 month contract

EDIT : Looks like the cancellation dept are busy...

[edit] Just managed to submit my 30 day notice, took about an hour start to finish as I had to talk to someone else first before she attempted to put me through to cancellations who then told me it was my phone's fault for being over 2 years old (It's a Vodafone Smart Ultra 6 handset that I'm pretty sure I bought new in the last 12 months or so) that I can't get 4G data. Cancellation date is Boxing Day so will see if I can get another deal between now and then
