My Lidl charger like this one also reports lots of false deads with discharged batteries. An easy workaround is to "bump charge" the problem battery. You just need a known good, full battery and a piece of wire. Hold each end of the wire on each of the negative terminals of the two batteries, then touch their positive terminals together, for no more than 3-4 seconds. Then stick it in the charger and it will start charging (unless it REALLY is dud). Magic. I keep an alkaline D cell handy for the job, but any AA/C/D rechargeable will do it. It will drain the donor cell a bit.

Don't buy it all full price. I see it and the rechargeable cells every few months in Aldi. When it doesn't sell they reduce the price to £5 etc to get rid of it.

xtar vc4 was on offer the other day £15 would be much better than this more battery choice

i have both, this will charge more batteries in a shorter time. the vc4 will work in the car, is smaller and charges 18650s.
I personally think the lidl one is more durable and will take more abuse than the vc4.
the lidl one has a 3 year guarantee and charges pp3 and has a USB out.
you pay your money, you make your choice, I chose both.

I had 2 of these units and the first got really hot which causes the cells to get hot as the bulk of the main PCB is just under the cells and only output something like 3.5v on the usb socket
Second unit also got hot and would just randomly decide (far too often) that a cell needed a refresh cycle which takes 6+ hours with no way to tell it not to.
I'm not sure if these are all the same inside but apparently they are re-branded ansmann chargers

Would this be good to charge AA 1900mAh Eneloops?

This is not only Duracell chargers problem. The one you see here from Lidl does the same: if you discharge battery completely, charger thinks its dead and refuses to charge. My best charger is Sanyo; old style, 9 years old and charges all batteries without problem.

Might have to replace my Duracell so called smart charger which has a habit of refusing to charge some of my batteries.

might be the charger thinking they are dead as others have that problem too
if you didn't know you can put them in an old style charger for 5-10 mins to give them a bit of boost and they will then charge fine

My old KH-980 is still working but has been replaced due to it being troublesome in detection of deeply discharged batteries as dead. Not to mention these so called 'Universal Chargers' that do C and D cells waste space in comparison to AA/AAA/9V chargers. I now use a 12 port EBL 999 charger.
Much more convenient in my opinion to buy quality AAA/AA rechargeables in bulk and use adapters whenever C or D cell batteries are required, which is infrequent if you do not have kids toys to contend with.
Voted hot on price, but consider your usage before purchase.

seems there was a problem with a batch of lidl batteries last time, have bought a couple of times and all have been fine
have a 2008 charger which still works fine (cant charge 'dead' ones until revived with dumb charger)
anyone know what other info the lcd displays or is it just the battery %?
looking at a video seems only % in 10% increments ... but seems to be able to tell % capacity within a few secs.. hmm how?

Had my Lidl battery charger for about 5 years now (similar to this and at the time the speculation was it was made by Ansmann)) and it's shown itself to be an absolute bargain. If this is as good, then it's much better than 'pretty good value for money'.

As said; Lidl charger is pretty good value for money.
Batteries-crap. Poundland ones are far better if you after cheap ones. Used all of them- all in the bin and only Eneloops now in use. First ¬Eneloops I have bought , was in 2008 manufactured by Sanyo then, and they still goes strong today

My old Tronic KH980 (older version with no screen) is still going strong after years of constant daily use, so I'm going to buy another one. Thanks for the heads up OP! :sunglasses:

6 x 330mA (AAA)
6 x 1000mA (AA)
4 x 1000mA (C or D)

Vs this version which i think is:
6 x 500 mA (AAA)
6 x 1000 mA (AA)
4 x 1000 mA (C or D)
2 x 70 mA (9v)
LCD display
1 x USB charge port.
