Assuming nothing has changed recently, when you extend an Office 365 subscription, it changes the full length you have to the version of the latest bought, so using a 1 year personal code on yours would extend your subscription but revert to a personal again, you can however then buy another 1 month home to upgrade it again as before.

Very easy - guide on linxtablet forum
I think you just download magic jellybean finder and run that BEFORE activating

I changed my office 365 sub to 5 user home - I guess this can't be used in any way to extend my existing subscriptiom

How easy is it to extract the code?

It's now gone down to £31.99 which is a very good price indeed!

does anyone know what type of subscription the office 365 is? is it office 365 personal - 1 user?
seatie to kingnpuk
5 Jan 17 #40
It is 365 personal. I assume 1 user as that is the subscription I already had and I used the code from this to extend the subscription.

These are old stock as the product has been discontinued for quite some time now. So I think most likely the office 365 subscription deadline is gone by now.

For anyone still following this thread, I bought the tab from Game after seeing this post. I've just extracted the office 365 key from the tablet and added it to my existing a/c at Office.com without any problems. Thanks OP.

Fairly sure the Office 365 deal with Win8 Tablets had to be done or ended around August time.

Also dont think it comes with a Code, its bundled on the SetUp menu only.

The HotUKDeals how to extract the key thread is http://www.hotukdeals.com/ask/how-extract-microsoft-365-subscription-from-linx-tablet-iphone-6-samsung-galaxy-2226719
It points to the LinxTablet.co.uk thread here: http://www.linxtablet.co.uk/viewtopic.php?f=36&t=12
Selling the key on the auction site is Caveat venditor (seller/vendor beware, I just looked it up :smirk: ).

Sorry if duplicating, I did scan the conversations above... does any one know if the Office 365 comes as a separate code or pre-installed in some way?
nige182 to Face172
30 Nov 16 1 #31
It is kind of a cross between the two, you open the Office app which then applies the code to your Live account that you have associated with the tablet. If you want to view the code, you need to disconnect from the internet or log in as a guest with no Live account, then open the app and let it load the browser page asking you to log in, you will then be able to extract the code from the address bar.

I don't have a direct comparison, but I suspect that full-blown Windows 10 (designed primarily for PCs) will be worse than Android (designed primarily for phones). They have similar (within 20% of each other) capacity batteries.

The Linx 7:

"The Linx 7 has a 3,500mAh battery and can be charged using its microUSB port, which is always a good thing if you don't want to lug another charger with you. It lasted almost three hours playing a Youtube video at standard resolution (360p) on full brightness before giving up the ghost."
http://www.techradar.com/reviews/pc-mac/tablets/linx-7-1277034/review/2
(note this review presumably uses Wi-fi)

"Linx quote around five hours of battery life, which isn't spectacular. We found that between four and five hours is a more realistic estimation"
http://www.pocketgamer.co.uk/r/Windows+8/Linx+7/hardware_review.asp?c=63130

Versus the Fire:

"According to Amazon, the Fire's 2,980mAh battery is good for up to seven hours of mixed usage, which in my experience, is an understatement. In our standard 720p, looping-video battery-rundown test (at 50 percent screen brightness), the Fire lasted nine hours and 20 minutes before dying, with all battery-saving modes disabled. That doesn't quite match the iPad Mini 4's 13-hour stint, but it's almost two hours longer than Samsung's Galaxy Tab S2 was able to stick it out for."
https://www.engadget.com/2015/10/14/amazon-fire-review/
(probably without Wi-fi?)

"From a full charge you’ll get around 10.5 hours of 720p video playback if it’s stored locally, and at least four hours of gaming too. Stamina is perfectly acceptable, which is quite different from some of the ultra-low-cost no-brand tablets we've used over the years."

I think based on what you have said that the battery life will be the deciding factor, both can handle that stuff well. I don't use my Linx for watching videos a lot and don't have a Kindle Fire so hopefully someone else can chime in with more knowledge about the battery life.

26 Nov 16 #27
thanks for your reply... so would you actually recommend this one over Fire if my main goal is to browse the web and watch YouTube and watch movies? What about battery life? Is Linx 7 better on the go and if you travel?
miimiii
26 Nov 16 #26
thanks a lot for your explanation ! What about battery life? If I manily plan to use it for browsig the Internet &watching YoutTube is it definitly better option than Fire 7? Can I plug in usb with movies, music ? Ive never had a tablet lol...

EQL has basically given the main advantages and disadvantages of each. If you think you will want to install apps/games, Android has a much larger app store, but then Windows does benefit on browsing. If in a year YouTube decide to change the encoding on their videos to something that Android does not natively support, you can be sure that Windows will have no such issues. Personally I have an 8 inch Windows tablet and prefer that for a tablet, but then I have my Android phone for on the go apps and games.

oh and Kodi works flawlessly on these tablets too, and with the additional micro HDMI port to link upto your smart TVs its a bonus, that's if you haven't already got a fire stick or android TV box,

the only real gripe I DO have with this tablet is the fact that it has ONE micro USB, so unless you have a hub with multiple inputs your limited, this is not a problem if you don't plan on linking a keyboard/mouse. I've had trouble finding a suitable hub with charging capabilities for this, but I'm sure they are out there.

HEAT as always love this little tablet. best £35.99 I spent (3 years ago)

One advantage of Windows over Android is the length of security and support. How long are you likely to keep your device?

Windows 8 has extended support (security bugs fixed) until January 10, 2023, with Windows 10 under extended support until October 14, 2025.
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/13853/windows-lifecycle-fact-sheet

With Android, your tablet (depending upon manufacturer) may only last two years, e.g.:
"Nexus devices get Android version updates for at least 2 years from when the device became available on the Google Store. After 2 years, we can't guarantee additional updates."
https://support.google.com/nexus/answer/4457705?hl=en-GB

Windows comes with its own virus-scanner (which you can replace). Android has its own security measures, but when support runs out, you will be vulnerable browsing the web and receiving emails.

On the other hand, Android has the lovely, shiny, touch-enabled Google Play store (or the Amazon equivalent) with the most modern touch-enabled apps and games. Windows doesn't have the same quantity of touch-supported apps and games ( https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/store/apps/windows and https://www.microsoft.com/en-gb/store/top-free/games/pc ), the big releases tend to be on it. Steam has some games too, but is primarily aimed at the desktop ( http://store.steampowered.com/tag/en/Touch-Friendly/ ). You can attach game controllers to both Windows and Android.

It's a great deal, but yes I agree Windows is clunky on a tablet. It's a great tool for people that want to work on the go since you can use all the same software. But for play I'd suggest some kind of android tablet, the apps are much better and that really what matters. Even youtube is a pain on a Windows tablet, yes you can use the Web browser version but it's nowhere near as easy to use on the go.
Bird68
26 Nov 16 #18
Why on earth not. When you factor in 12 months Office, it's a great deal.
jazzuk777
26 Nov 16 #17
Why on earth buy a Windows tablet - they are really clunky - it really shows in multiple areas it was designed for PCs first, tablets second. Avoid, there's no reason to get Windows on a tablet.

Thanks for your suggestion...Im still not sure wheter to get Fire 7 or this one...I will mainly use it for Internet browsing, watching videoes etc.... What are the adatages and dis of the two different systems? Is Android better? Whats the biggest difference? What about dowloading the apps ? Im not a gadget girl and I do not know how these things work lol...

for those saying this tablet is rubbish, must be deluded.

this is a perfect tablet despite its size, I've had mine for 3 years from hukd.

works perfectly from day one and works perfectly with windows 10!

I edit my RAW photography in photoshop, produce music on it with fruityloops and many more things! great little tablet! a stylus works great too!

I would recommend the linx 8" for the size but everything else is great. ( linx 10" has 2gb of ram if I'm not mistaken also)

I own a kindle fire 7" which I've rooted and its now a generic CM12 android tablet. for those asking if you can put android on the linx 7", don't. get a kindle 7" and root it, it is flawless with everything I've thrown at it!

hope this helps people.

Not sure why anyone wants to put Android on these, Android x86 (which would be the version required for this) is not as well supported as the ARM version. If you want Android, buy an Android tablet, it will work much better than putting Android on this. Personally, although I do like Android, I prefer Windows in a tablet. I have Android on my phone which is higher spec than any reasonably priced Android tablet so what would an Android tablet give me extra? Plus Android devices get limited updates, apart from premium devices like the Nexus range, you would be lucky if you buy a tablet on Android 5 and it gets updated to Android 6, let alone 7. All Windows 7/8 devices can be upgraded to Windows 10 for free and continue to receive updates.

Anyway if someone wants an Android tablet around this price, might I suggest a Tesco Hudl or Amazon Fire instead?

No stylus included, you do not need one for everyday use with the capacitive screen, but if you want a capacitive stylus, they are cheap now on eBay, I paid 20p for my last one.

Horses for courses, the Linx 7 has a faster CPU, more storage and a better resolution screen, however they run different OS. If you did put Android on the Linx (which I believe people have been working on), it would require quite some work and would not be highly optimised, also it would be Android x86, whereas the Fire runs an Amazon customised version of Android ARM.

Personally I would say that if you want Windows, the Linx is better. If you want Fire OS, the Fire is better. If you want stock Android, the Fire is better.

There's an "*OFFICIAL* Linx 7 & 8 Windows 8.1 Owner's Thread" with details on connectivity, keyboards, updates and backups (from 2014):
http://www.hotukdeals.com/misc/official-linx-7-8-windows-8-1-owner-s-thread-2089133
If you don't need the Office 365 subscription, it may be worth around £20 (£18 after seller's costs)? So the tablet could effectively cost £22.
This tablet has the same CPU as the Ideapad from Very, but the tablet only has 1GB of RAM (not 2GB):
