Is Avios membership any good? I've just had a quick look and it looks like 1500 Avios points gets you £10 off a BA flight. This seems pretty poor, but perhaps I'm missing a trick...

9000 points + £35 gets you up to a ~2 hour return sector on BA's European short haul flights though, which if you book as they get released, has availability on every flight / no blackout dates.
Generally you want to redeem at 1 point > 1p value (which at 1% is the general earning rate on the no fee Amex cards for everyday spend), so as long as the flight you are looking at normally costs > £125 you are getting good value.
The real key is bonus earning opportunities (Clubcard conversion, topcashback payout etc).

True! Not good value. BA is too greedy. Too much tax. Go for a cashback card instead.
