1080p is full HD and the number refers to the vertical pixels. 1280 in this case is horizontal pixels (with only 800 vertical) which amounts to 'HD' (720p/768p compatible depending on how you reference it) - frankly it's 'good enough' given the price and the fact it's brand new, but there are plenty of people who want all the features but don't want to pay for them.

Great find! Not quite as good as the Z380C ZenPad 8.0 that got down to £59.97 about a month or two ago but decent nonetheless especially for a larger form factor. Also being the 'M' not the 'C', it comes preinstalled with Android M and has a Mediatek processor which should remove some of the complaints surrounding the Intel CPU (that was generally fine but could be laggy and had issues with some apps, e.g. banking).

And I find it hard to believe some people are actually complaining about getting a brand new 10" branded tablet for under £100 because it's not 'full HD'. I'm sure you'd all like a Surface Pro 4 for £250 but that's not realistic is it?

I got this just over a week ago for £129 @ Currys. It's mostly fine (looks nice, screen is quite good), but it has one huge issue.....even though it's Marshmallow it won't let you use an SD card as internal memory.

I've tried a few of the fixes online, and although there are ways to force it using ADB, it's buggy as heck (you have to reset the tablet before you can play any of the games you installed on the SD card).

Still hot for me at £99, but limited if you want any more than 16GB for apps etc.

From reviews I read there's issues with Google Play too and license issues, especially when playing movies on Lenovo tablets. Something about Google not recognising it as a licensed player ? Not sure. May not be relevant to you, didn't matter much to me as it was my mum I was looking for and she just plays games, but could be annoying if you come to use it eventually.

Probably worse, HD vs FHD screen, Bloat from manufacturer vs No Bloat, Unknown timely updates vs Monthly security updates from google. If you need lots of storage or a 10" screen this could be the tablet for you however. I've been running 5, Nexus 7 2013's for the last 2 years and all 5 are still working great with no slowdown.

1280 x 800/720 is HD or 720p. 1920 x 1200/1080 is FHD or 1080P. On a 7" tablet there isn't that much difference but on 10", the difference is huge when reading text.

Regarding the 7inch screen: Theirs a big difference; it has more real estate on your screen. More icons, more reading content especially when the keyboard pops up, you see webpages better, you see a4 text documents better, you have more space for personalisations like widgets and it's just better all around.

I bought the Acer Iconia One 10" tablet from Currys at £99 at the weekend.
I'm debating taking it back as the processor in this one is slightly better and this one has 2GB of RAM rather than 1GB and it looks like the battery lasts slightly longer in the ASUS Zenpad.
I can't decide if it's even worth the hassle of returning and buying this one just for this reason? My parents (Who this is for) will only be using it for basic web browsing email socail media etc.
Thoughts?
xenophon
30 Nov 16 #59
The information on Argos gives the Lenovo as 1.3Ghz the same as this. From what I can see it's the same spec but 20 quid more.

Yes I see the post you mention saying 1.5 but unless he can confirm I would say that must be a mistake.

My daughter has a 7" Nook HD too and i'm tempted to go with this as an upgrade (bigger screen, more memory, more ram) but not sure because of the screen difference. The screen is decent on the Nook and wouldn't want to downgrade if that was the case, on this one.

I've got both 2.4ghz & 5ghz running in the house so it's irrelevant for me & I don't rent/buy movies on Play when I can ahem acquire them elsewhere.

As long as it plays Hay Day the wife will be happy. It's just literally going to be a gaming device & I haven't read anything bad on that regard or at least any worse than this or other tablets.

As long as it's got decent battery ife & reviews say it does so hopefully it'll be good.

With the Tab A you are paying for the name, so personally I would take the Asus or Lenovo as the Tab A is positioned as mid-range anyway and doesn't offer any 'killer feature' AFAIK. Have used all of them and it does depend on your usage but personally the Asus is a bit of a bargain at this price.

People are confusing the Lenovos at Argos, both the main site and also the refurb site.

There is a Lenovo 30, and a Lenovo 70; the 70 is a far better machine than the 30. Check the specs!

Just a word of warning to people like me with crappy vision. I tend to hold the screen quite close to my face when reading and although the screen is good enough for most especially when held at the normal distance away from you at close up the resolution does not do the job. This will obviously not be an issue for most but thought it worth mentioning.

Caution for the Lenovo. I have one and the speakers went screwy after upgrading to the latest OTA update (headphones still sound perfect). The microsd can only be formatted using fat32 so you can't put files bigger than 4GB on it. This is a let down for better quality films which could have taken advantage of the full HD quality screen (which is very nice). Oh, and there are no custom roms available for it if that's something you consider doing when the manufacturer drops support (as they appear to have done, Android Lollipop v5.0 is the last update available).

You have to be careful thou cos there is a range of about 3 or possibly 4 types of lenovo Tab 2 but the higher the numbers the better the spec I think it goes something like lenovo Tab 2 A10 (1.3ghz, 1gb ram) lenovo tab 2 A10-30 (1.5ghz 1.5gb ram) lenovo tab 2 A10-70f (1.7ghz 2gb ram) lenovo tab 2 A10-70L (2.0ghz) and higher android software depending on the highest ghz. I hope someone benefits out of this but I hate seeing the lower quality ones more expensive than the higher quality because online stores like Amazon don't get it...

It doesn't help with your issue but Marshmellow's ability to use an SD card as adopted (internal) storage is over-rated and has it's limitations anyway. Even though it allows some (not all) Apps to be installed on the card, as it can't be removed and read or used in another device without formatting again, you are pretty limited to the cloud for backing up your data and files. Even a decent class card will still be slower than internal flash storage and there are reports that using it for internal storage increases the chances of card failure as well.

I had one of these for a while but I returned it after a few weeks. It looked beautiful, a really sophisticated finish particularly on the white/gold model, however it's what's inside that counts, eh? Unfortunately the screen was far from HD; pixelated at best, fuzzy at worst. Performance was average - it struggled with games and instagram would force close.

A lot of people comparing this to the Lenovo Tab2. Well I had the Tab2 but sold it and got one of these.
To be honest with you the is better with great battery life and the built in stand feature is a god send but what made me sell it was the fact it will not work with channel 4's All4 app at all. People on forums have contacted channel 4 and Lenovo about it and neither have provided a solution as yet. So if watching channel fours programs online is important to you don't get the Tab2.

Android 6.0 Marshmallow allows micro sd card to become part of internal memory so the 16Gb can become much more if you're prepared to use the slot as a memory extension pack.

I have cyanogen on my Nook but the battery life is a bit poor and its very glitchy to switch on and off. Also the backlight seems to come on when charging and stay on when switch off charging but then drains the battery even without it being in use.

Any of those issues with Nougat? Got any links to how to install it or more info? Cheers

Allegedly this is not as straight forward as some may think, it will allow some apps to be loaded onto the memory card but not all.

Disclosure: (for the mugs who scour these threads to justify their existence): this is not fact; this is just what I have read. I have not scoured 100% of the internet to establish the whole truth. Any spelling mistakes/grammar can be ignored, I do not claim to be a grammatician.

Not sure. I do know I've bought refurbed laptops from both Argos and Tesco before and they're basically change of mind, open box returns that they can't sell as new.

Nothing to lose though. If it has a fault, it gets returned. If it's damaged, it gets returned.

That Toshiba is rubbish. I have it too. It's slow, lacks memory, has a dull screen, battery life is terrible, and the processor can't cope with the high res screen. I think you'll find the Asus Zenpad doesn't have those problems.

If you must have a tablet with a high res screen for under £150 then I only know of the China tabs at that price level. They obliterate this Asus Zenpad in almost every way, but most people are too scared to buy from China so that may not be an option.

Well just had a day to play with this, awesome tablet, i still have a good 60% left in thw battery, watched a few Columbo movies over putlocker(720P look great), watched some YT, surfed, left it on standbuy, really good low power consumption, and the sound, oh the glorious sound, coming from a Hipstreet which has one small tiny 1980 PC beep type speaker at the back, this tablet is the philharmonic orchestra of sound, really good, and this tablet just zips along on everything it does, and compared to my other tablet, the Hudl 2, which came with a bundle of useless junk i had to work around to remove, this comes with very little, and all can be stops or removed unlike some of the hudl stuff which could not.

But overal a cracking tablet, picture is great, sound is great, tablet is fast and zippy, and the battey is the icing on the cake, well worth my £99.

I was comparing this to the "Lenovo Tab A10-30" offer too. Both were very close but I ended up going with the Asus in the end because it supports 128GB SD cards vs 64GB. Also, it supports Android 6 the Lenovo only supports Android 5.

2 Dec 16 #167
Got the tablet and everything updated and setup to run.

Put a 64GB card in, but it won't format. Went this route

Storage & Usb, SD card, clicked on that, setting, pressed Format.

Says, Format as portable storage... pressed the red erase & format button, got to 20% and then said could not format!

Any other ways. The card was already formatted in the previous tablet and in the Asus it says 64.00kb used of 62.48GB.

Just want to add movies folders to it.

Also, anyone recommend a few movie players apps for the tablet, that will play anything or all files. mp4, mkv etc.

I did notice, that some players won't even show all the files in the movie folder!

I also got the Lenovo a10-70f from Argos refurbished.. but got it for £111. Arrived yesterday. Everything seems okay. The wifi seems stable. Hasn't dropped out yet. The thing I am worried about is battery life. The reason I went for it was because reviews were saying it had incredible battery life, like 10-12 hours. But it is dropping rather fast, even at lowest brightness... Still considering it. Got 30 days so. So it's all good.

I have two of them, screen is excellent on both mine, sharp and clear.
Does everything and last for a long time.
SD card usage is a pain as the only downside is stuck at 4.3 Android so cannot use the latest Microsoft Word and Excel.
The proper keyboard for it is good too.
Lacks memory? It has 2G and 16 or 32G storage plenty.

That is compared to the Nexus 7 and Hudl2 and Apple Air2(no where near as quick and nice as that, apart from the OS)
I like the feel and size of the HUDL2 though.

Good luck with ASUS and their non existent warranty which is sent to a third party shop. Tablet failed on third charge and they refused to repair and blamed me for some type of damage after normal use. Tried quoting me £500 to repair a usb jack. Not fit for purpose.

Think car dealers quoting insurance companies extortionate rates to repair a vehicle paint etc.

4 Dec 16 #183
I had the same problem which was driving me loopy. I tried some of the online suggestions such as factory reset but none worked. What I did discover was that the wifi dropouts only occur when connected to. 2.4 GHz router signal - it is rock solid with 5GHz. New routers tend to allow either and I found my tablet would sometimes connect to either. When it connected to 2.4GHz it periodically dropped out. So my fix was to give the different wifi frequencies different names in the router and just allow connection to the 5GHz one. It's been perfect ever since.

Further to my comment above, i am still having trouble with network dropping out after a few minutes, and this is the second one i have tried. I am a virginmedia customer with a super hub and have three other android devices running fine without a problem, perhaps there is a compatibility issue or something but I am taking mine back since i expect it to work out of the box. Just want to warn any other virginmedia customers who are thinking of getting one.

Wikipad stopped charging so dropped £99 on one of these at the weekend.

Its faster, the battery life is great and it runs Hearthstone. In otherwords, I'm really happy with this tablet.

The screen seems a tad on the dark side, but that might just be me.

I don't understand why manufacturers advertise a lower supported limit than reality. If a device supports SDXC then the SDXC standard can handle up to 2TB cards. If there is an inherent lower limit due to the device then fine, they can advertise the lower limit but it seems like some manufacturers state the limit as the currently highest available SDXC card which clearly isn't the limit. I'm guessing this is what Lenovo did here.

Lucky for me, the Android version difference was enough to make the same decision but it does bug me when they do this.

I Can't comment on Kodi but Terrarium.TV work flawlessly, same principal I believe except Terrarium.TV is a lot slicker IMO. Regarding lag, its not as quick as the latest IPAD but it is quick enough, (I am fussy too). I ran a benchmark against my Nexus 7 2013 and the Nexus won it, there may be factors but I can't be bothered to look dig deeper. (Nexus 7 2013 are brilliant, again IMO)

BTW, a lot quicker than teh Samsung Galaxy 8.
