There's quite a few similar machines. One has a FHD screen, another has 4GB ram or a standard i3 cpu.

You are very right. The power savings provided by the cpu are drained by the super high res screen.
If you are using it out and about/on battery regularly for long periods (>6hrs) then I certainly agree with your choice. FHD is ample for productivity.

I'll be using mine as a complementary device to go along with my high performance desktop and will rarely be away from an outlet so having a 2.8x increase in pixel count is an easy trade off for me.

There's more to it than that, it's not just total power consumption that the Core-M benefits from its lower TDP means it runs much cooler allowing it to run with passive cooling. The ULV range may have a little more grunt but they're still weedy processors for anything that needs a decent amount of CPU horsepower, I prefer the Core-M processors for thin and light machines since they can run silently and cool whereas the ULV processors aren't much faster in reality and run noisy and hot in thin machines. I leave the 'grunt' to my hex core overclocked i7 in my desktop which is significantly faster than any mobile processor.

That said I don't like higher than 1080p screens on Windows, a 3200x1800 screen on 13.3in needs a lot of scaling and Windows is very inconsistent in how it handles scaling, some stuff looks great, some looks terrible and others just look downright strange. At least with a 1080p screen you can easily use it without scaling or just a small amount.

I'm very wary of Currys cashback deals. Twice now I've gone for Currys deals through TCB - the first was rejected and I had to file a claim which eventually got me what I was owed but only after months of waiting. The second one was supposed to be 5% cashback and instead I received 1% cashback - I filed a claim for the remaining amount which was rejected after 4 or 5 months...

It comes with a USB ethernet adaptor if that helps.

I suppose it depends on your requirements. The CPU isn't a powerhouse but it is super low wattage and is passively cooled so is fanless. Truly silent operation with zero moving parts.

The resolution is overkill but if you're ok with trading some battery life for much higher ppi then enjoy the crispness :smiley:

Give them a call, your local store may have stock. Worth a look.

Picked mine up today, just switched it on and there's a dead pixel in the middle of the screen :disappointed: It's going straight back.

Update: Exchanged it instore. Replacement seems to be fine so far touch wood.

I seem to remember you can but for heaven's sake don't tell John Lewis you did if you have to return it....
