HWTips have a custom BIOS for OC'ing non-K CPUs on this however a lot of people have said they didn't need it. It likely depends on which BIOS your board was shipped with.

Not entirely true, a 1080 can do quite a few at 4k just not games that are harder to run.

OK lets take it down a notch!
I OC the BCLK with my 6600K to get over 4.7GHz but its blocked with non-K CPUs...it just is I'm afraid.
People need to be made aware of that. Thats my only point. I own & love the Extreme4 but just want folk to have the full & correct picture.
Thats enough from me...BUY THIS MB but buy a K processor too

I own this MB and have researched its OC abilities extensively. It will NOT allow non-K OC out of the box and NO official ASRock bios will support it.
I know of one Korean site that hosts a hacked bios and thats about it.
You're doing potential buyers a real disservice!

This has been at this price for some time now.
Furthermore, its a very bad board for Skylake, many errors with it and has lack of overclocking capabilities.
Plus OP saying that there isnt a single GPU that can handle 4k yet LMAO.
Say that to my build.

16 Nov 16#41
Which GPU is that exactly?
Spark
16 Nov 16#39
No because this will have the right BIOS out of the box. AsRock disabled it in one update and then re-enabled it a month or so later. The chances of it having the non-BCLK BIOS on it are extremely small and in that unlikely event you would just need to go on the AsRock website to download a new one. Hardly hunting anything down. What I said above about custom ones mainly applies to MSI, Asus and Gigabyte.
leetron
15 Nov 16#38
Maybe then you should alter your OP to inform potential buyers that if they want to OC non-K they'll have to hunt down a custom bios?
Spark
15 Nov 16#37
Exactly, it was the BIOS that were patched after Intel put the pressure on. They never actually blocked it through microcode. You just need to use a custom BIOS to re-enable the feature on some boards (and no prizes for guessing the sources of those custom versions).

That was true of Windows 8 but not of Windows 10, Windows 8 worked but was a shock to the system, since I've had Windows 10 I've had wifi issues, had the start button refuse to work (the start button is quite useful), etc.
It's getting a little more reliable with each update though

Yeah. And unless you want to overclock a K CPU then you only need a B or H series board and not one of the more expensive Z versions.

It depends on what game you really want to play but just from the top of my head R6: Siege, The Division, BF1 and Dishonored 2 all use Hyper Threading. The resolution you play at won't make much difference because it is more to do with the physics processing etc.
You could look into the i7-6400t which could be perfect in your scenario and would compliment this board really well but I'd advise doing a lot of reading up on it first and careful not to confuse it with the i5-6400t as that is something different.

Is this for gaming? I'd advise against an i5 if that's the case. i5 has been the sweet spot for PC gaming for around the last 6-10 years but now games are starting to use Hyper Threading. I recently had to change to an i7 because my old i5-6600 couldn't hack it in Battlefield 1.

I'm looking at i5-6600k. i7-6700k is available at around £310 at a retailer but can't really justify it. The colour looks nice on this board but any other recommendations would be helpful. New processors are coming soon, is it better to wait? Not sure what to do.

Those wifi issues are nothing to do with Windows 10 in itself. its to do with the drivers for your wifi card.
Driver's for individual pieces of hardware (which there are tens of thousands) arent the responsibility of Microsoft. you'd need to troubleshoot that particular wifi card and see if theres an updated driver for it. the responsibility for that likes with the manufacturer of that hardware component..

Windows 10 they've had 3 goes at it so far, so much stuff breaks on it, customers hate it as well. I work in IT refurbishment, the feedback is Windows 10 is crap, had a call today some one bought a laptop on our eBay store, had it a few months, it did a recent update and just boots to a back screen now, can't repair it over the phone/team viewer etc so has to come back.

I'm a Windows, MacOS (formerly OSX) and Linux user, they all have their faults, Windows 10 I won't use unless I'm forced to with DX12, which is why Vulkan API is so important. I'd much rather use MacOS than Windows 10, right click is much better in Windows 10, just about everything else is better in MacOS.
