I ordered and just received a SIM from Asda to use for 1 month while I am here. I had previously intended to opt for a £10 bundle of 1.5 GB and 600 mins plus texts, however I just noticed they have added a 30-day Xmas bundle with 20 GB and unlimited minutes/texts. Yes it's only 3G but still a bargain as a temporary solution and much more than they usually offer. Hope someone finds it useful.
Despite what it says on some pages at the site you need to text "MEGA" and not "MEGA 10".

It's a one month deal but presumably will run for another month as Christmas is still a long way off. There is no obligation to renew. As I said the usual deal is only 600 mins and 1.5 GB and you can elect to autorenew. 20 GB and unlimited mins for me will be overkill but it's still the same price so took it anyway. Agree if you can get 10 GB on 4G plus unlimited minutes at £10 it's probably a better option but for the moment doesn't appear to be available anywhere without being tied in for a longer period.

Really? Good deal.
People, depending on what type of 3G Asda uses will determine the speed of the connection. 3G can hit speeds faster than Home broadband . I've seen 3G hit 20mpbs which is quick and very usable.
This is providing they have Hsdpa (I believe that's it), then the speeds will be good.

In theory I believe so, I just tried and was able to connect my laptop however it appears that the data connection is not working. No sign of a 3G or any other connection and Internet not working on the phone. The text I received said everything would work immediately. Looks like I will have to call them tomorrow to find out what is going on. My father is sitting next to me with an EE 4G connection that is working so something is not right. Will report back ASAP.

Anyone on Asda Mobile able to run a speed test and advise what kind of speed you get on EE, through this Virtual network?
I know some of the virtual networks using 3G on EE cap their speed at something stupid like 1-2mbps.
I am very interested! I am shortly finishing my 2 year contract on T-Mobile which is unlimited 3G via the EE network. My speed seems to be capped at about 6-7mbps and more than good enough for browsing, YouTube (in HD) and streaming music.
As I took a phone out on my contract back then I am paying £30+ a month and just want to go to SIM Only now, Spoken to T-Mobile/EE and will not offer me a discounted rate to do SIM Only on T-Mobile. But reluctant to pay £25+ a month to switch to EE on 4G when I don't need that, for a SIM Only contract, but use about 10-14GB a month.
Never thought I would be switching to Asda PAYG, but this is the best deal by far for someone like me that fits my needs and EE signal where I am is excellent.

Just wondering - as this is an Asda xmas deal, does anyone out there have ideas as to whether other companies will also be doing similar deals ?
I get brilliant O2 and BT reception 3G, T-Mobile varies, vodaphone useless, EE not sure if it's the same as T-Mobile or not...... so I don't want to fork out for an unproven connection, if other operators usually offer similar deals so as not to lose market share.

You can order the SIM for free on the Asda Mobile website without having to make a payment/top-up!
Why don't you order the SIM and put it into your phone and just see what kinda signal comes up on the phone. You could also just call customer service from the SIM for free without topping up and make some excuse for calling, atleast while talking to them you will see what the call quality is like, before you commit any money!

BTW, after activation, the card arrived with 10 mins calls, 10 texts and 10 MB free. Also, remember what I said earlier if anyone finds the data doesn't work, I had to change a few APN settings as I found it was set to Virgin Mobile, don't ask me why.

LOL, can't believe how hot this has become so thanks for cooling things down a bit. Yes it would be nice to have 4G (and eventually 5G) absolutely everywhere. In reality we know that day is a long way off whatever the powers that be care to tell us. Anyway, it really depends what you need to do, even if you are streaming, a good 3G signal is more than sufficient but if it's poor you are of course right. That said, even though 4G is potentially far superior, it is not a panacea and the signal may still be poor in areas where there is supposedly coverage.

Not quite as good as EE's £10 for 200GB over two months promos, or Vodafone's £10 for 50GB promo, but as those promotions will never be repeated in the near future this ASDA SIM is the best you can get right now for a temporarily high data allowance on Pay As You Go.

30 Nov 16#153
I know, I take your point - but there's quite a lot of difference in the performance and bandwidth of the various networks. For example, Life mobile only offer '3G' but people say that its faster than other 'budget' networks' '4G' eg. Tesco mobile or Lyca.
SO basically what I'm saying is that I think we can only compare the 'big' networks with each other - O2, Voda, EE etc
And the cheap networks need to compared with their cheap counterparts..
I'll get my coat...

Thinking of getting this deal for short holiday use in the Canary Isles. I would like to contact friends in the UK and prob surf the web when not on wi-fi too. Does anyone know if data roaming is charged as an extra? Calls too?

Asda Mobile data, including the data offered in this deal, is for UK use only. This also applies to inclusive calls and texts.
If you want lots of temporary data to use while over in the Canaries, only a Three SIM will suffice.

My MEGA Bundle was due to expire at 7pm yesterday. I'd topped up with £10 but wasn't allowed to renew the bundle early because it hadnt expired.
I was a bit worried about this, and Holiday Call-Centre Hours, so called Cust Svc Human on 2732 before 5pm yesterday (Christmas Day).
The operator was very nice and cancelled and renewed my Bundle in less than 10 seconds.
If your existing MEGA Bundle hasn't expired, you need to do this too, before the Offer finishes, if you want another £10 month's worth.
Opening post
Despite what it says on some pages at the site you need to text "MEGA" and not "MEGA 10".

The last day you can sign up for 30 days is the 2nd of January in case anyone else is wondering.

People, depending on what type of 3G Asda uses will determine the speed of the connection. 3G can hit speeds faster than Home broadband . I've seen 3G hit 20mpbs which is quick and very usable.
This is providing they have Hsdpa (I believe that's it), then the speeds will be good.
Also is this only for 30 days then goes up in price, or is this a permanent deal?
I get brilliant O2 and BT reception 3G, T-Mobile varies, vodaphone useless, EE not sure if it's the same as T-Mobile or not...... so I don't want to fork out for an unproven connection, if other operators usually offer similar deals so as not to lose market share.
Why don't you order the SIM and put it into your phone and just see what kinda signal comes up on the phone. You could also just call customer service from the SIM for free without topping up and make some excuse for calling, atleast while talking to them you will see what the call quality is like, before you commit any money!
seems to me that 20gb for £10 is a pretty good deal.....
1.5GB data
600 minutes
Unlimited text

If so, it would make this a great deal.

BTW, after activation, the card arrived with 10 mins calls, 10 texts and 10 MB free. Also, remember what I said earlier if anyone finds the data doesn't work, I had to change a few APN settings as I found it was set to Virgin Mobile, don't ask me why.
Its disgusting, why the government aren't helping these people I have no idea, will send a Christmas hamper over to hopefully cheer them up.
These results show my laptop tethered to ASDA mobile and wi-fied to my father's supposed 7 MB home broadband connection. It's in a built-up area but the speed is appalling and always has been.
Not quite as good as EE's £10 for 200GB over two months promos, or Vodafone's £10 for 50GB promo, but as those promotions will never be repeated in the near future this ASDA SIM is the best you can get right now for a temporarily high data allowance on Pay As You Go.
Yes and yes.
4g is a marketing term to get you to pay more money
95% of placesare h+
BTW: If you don't want to wait 5 days to get free SIM, pop in to Asda a buy it for 50 pence.
It doesnt get any hotter than volcanic lava.
So all users on the tariff after this date, when they come to renew their bundle will have to choose one of the networks standard bundles at this deal will no longer be an option...
Ideal if you need data for a short period, but if looking for a long term deal, probably not for you!
All mobile networks and landlines (non-premium rate numbers)?
Couldn't find an answer on ASDA site
20GB per month = 65 KilobitsPerSecond.
Edit - Lmao at some of the questions you've been asking on the site. Such technological illiteracy shows you have no argument to calling me "clueless".
What can I say .....
Test ran on iPhone SE
Cheers
I honestly didn't think RTFM applied to hotukdeals.
I remembered seeing it here, but couldn't remember what it was, so I told you where to look. Maybe I shouldn't have bothered trying to help.

If only !!
Freezing cold, sorry.
I'll get my coat..
I find that a bit ironic ...
Because after the offer ends you'll get 1.5GB for £10.
Then again I'm still on tmobile
I'll get try coat..
SO basically what I'm saying is that I think we can only compare the 'big' networks with each other - O2, Voda, EE etc
And the cheap networks need to compared with their cheap counterparts..
I'll get my coat...
Running some comparative speedtest trials with this Asda Mobile 3G Xmas bundle, in a Moto G XT1622 dual sim.
In SIM1 socket a BT/EE 4G contract SIM
In SIM2 socket an ASDA/EE 3G PAYG SIM with 30-day Xmas bundle
Tests conducted consecutively at same location.

Also, this Asda PAYG SIM (Asda MVNO piggybacks EE network albeit on 3G only) works fine in network-locked EE Buzzard 2 car wifi dongle.
