Amex rates for shops are extortionate which is why most small retailers refuse to accept them.. and probably why you can get good cashback deals. I only ever use my Amex with large retailers for this reason

They charged 55p, but having a word with word Amex resolved that as well as the retailer getting investigated for all unlawful charges to other customers.

Are you mixing contactless and chip and PIN transactions? Contactless will be slower.

Anyone know if you can buy scratch cards/gift cards?
For some reason, a regular off license is listed near me, so could I go get some Half price scratch cards???

Yes, I use each year for Lottery tickets.... never had any issues apart from the lack of jackpot wins. Ask first if they definitely accept the card and if they apply any fee (like 40p max).

Got the £5 from this no email
Post Office got the email* no £5
Email says 5-90 days for £5 to show.

Amex customer service has been good when I have queried in the past. No confirmation for me yet but I'm still spending!

Give it until the end of the week. No email doesn't mean it hasn't or won't track in the back end and still credit you £5 correctly.

Contact Amex via the messaging facility in your account. They will contact the merchants and remove them from the promo if they're not accepting the card. They'll most likely credit you £5 immediately.

I get Amex refused all the time. How does this £5 deal work. Apart from few big retailers no one takes Amex.

Times are changing. They have reduced rates and have had a big push into small businesses to expand. I was actually surprised at the amount near me that accepted it and are on shop small. Then you get big US chains such as Subway NOT accepting which is odd.

Don't forget to register your card for the postoffice deal too. Seems like a good one to me. £5 cashback for £10 spend.

do you just use your card as you normally would and amex credit you the £5 or do you need to sign up for it?

Opening post
Starts this Saturday so a timely reminder
Click on the link for the map so you can check all your local shops / restaurants / Bars etc
If a shop refuses to accept amex ring amex CS and they'll credit you £5
