Current price on Dot is 39.99 on a Deal
Current Price on UE BOOM 2 is 84.99
Combined price is 124.98 but together 109.99.
Assuming you would want both, seems like a mega deal.

The boom speaker has a battery so is cordless, gives you more options.

Wait, so what's the advantage of buying the Echo over this bundle?

there is absolutely no advantage of buying an echo. It\s quite the opposite. This combo gives you the best of both worlds.

The only advantage I have seen is less clutter using my Echo on a kitchen's shelf (which is obviously one of the best places for Alexa to reside)

I'm going to buck the trend and big up the Echo. I have both the Echo and Echo Dot with separate Bluetooth speaker and if I had to part with one, it'd be the Dot (luckily I don't have to choose as they are both awesome). I appreciate everyone has a different requirement and it's an added cost but the Echo + Smatree AE9000 Intelligent Battery Base makes for a really cool and convenient setup, which to me is ultimately what Alexa is all about.

Is sonos 1 and echo not a better combo at the moment?

Had literally had the same thought. Love the Sonos range, however a review from last week: "If you only have the Sonos PLAY:1 or the Sonos PLAY:3 speakers, there is no easy way to connect them to the Echo". However, if you buy a Play 5 speaker, you can set up the Play 1 and 3 speakers. Quite disheartening to hear, really.

How are you connected to the AV amp?
My concern is how to mix Alexa's answers over the top of audio from other sources?
What AV amps need is an "Alexa input" that auto-ducks the main outputs with her responses all the time and selects her as the main source when you ask her to connect to your speaker.
My Dot currently integrates with my Samsung Soundbar better than my Samsung TV does!

I've also seen that - and that excites me. However, not ideal if you're looking to buy the Dot has a Xmas present.

The biggest let down about the Amazon Echo & Dot is not being able to stream the same music playback through multiple Dots. The lag is very noticable & listening to live radio whilst going from room to room is annoying.
I looked at these UE speakers as i the website claims that 2 of their speakers could link to one device "Wirelessly play (stream) to 2 UE BOOM 2s from one source." However they were £100 at the time & it seemed a bit too much for me as i'd already paid 49.99 for a Dot.
As a bundle this seems like a great deal & if the streaming to 2 speakers does work then the option to buy a second UE Boom is always there.

Could be wrong but I think I read somewhere that this is because only the Play 5 has a microphone built in.

I have already this combo, shame this wasn't on the offer earlier. Yes it gives you much better sound than echo on its own.
Ue speakers can be paired up as independent or stereo pairs and remember two last connected devices. Don't use app to pair them tho as it's a miss and hit with echo.
Manual setup for those interested: press plus and Bluetooth button on speaker that's already playing then go onto next one and power it on and press Bluetooth button twice quickly. On both speakers lights will become solid.

Don't panic. Sonos are working on integrating Echo with ALL of their speakers. Beta testing starts early next year and will roll out towards the spring.
It's going to be amazing from what I've seen and I can't wait to start the beta testing

Nothing to do with the built in microphone. This is for acoustically setting the sound and Sonos have no intention of using these speakers for voice control.
The reason the Play 5 and Connect/Connect:Amp can be used because they ALL have a line in but the 1/3 do not

I got me an Echo Dot today and connected it to my Anker Speaker ... perfect.
The Echo Dot is great, but I think its potential is realised only if you have an account with Spotify or Amazon Unlimited Music. Too much of a tight-fisted git to pay Spotify, when the PC application is already perfect for my needs.

Thanks for the heads up. I bought a Boom a couple of days ago but just got off the support chat and said I'd prefer not to return the Boom but still get the deal so they reduced a Dot for me to £25.

But how would you rate the speaker on the Echo? Seems like a lot of money, when the Dot gives all the usability of the Echo and you can get a better speaker for a cheaper price.

I use my dot with a pair of pure s3s via Bluetooth. The speakers link together well via Bluetooth.
I also have the dot plugged in to my amp just in case I need the extra volume boost.

Sadly no, the best you can do is upload your music to Amazon... at a cost!

The Echo speaker is good but I agree it isn’t as good as my portable Bluetooth speaker just as my portable Bluetooth speaker isn’t as good as my 5.1 audio system (although I do think the Echo handles speech a lot better than the other speakers). As with everything it’s all about compromise, originally my Dot was wired into my 5.1 and the sound was epic, but that required my audio system to be on all the time and having sky news boom out of a sub-woofer at 6am certainly gets your day off to a lively start. My Bluetooth speaker had an annoying feature of going into sleep mode after inactivity (or turn off completely if on battery) which disconnected it from the Dot, easy to ask Alexa to reconnect but still an additional step. In the end the Dot went upstairs (where it’s fantastic as a bedroom device on internal speaker) and my Echo took its rightful place in the living room with excursions to the kitchen, patio and beach thanks to the additional battery. The speaker is more than good enough for me and the carry-in-one-hand design vastly outweighs the better sound quality of my other options.

I bought the dot at the weekend. Connected up to my Onkyo amp through Bluetooth with ease. Highly recommended. I was really impressed how well it picks up your voice, even over loud music.

This was also my experience. The bluetooth speaker falling asleep after inactivity meant I had to manually switch it back on again each time which kind of seems to defeat the purpose of this tech for me. Yes my bose speaker and echo dot sounds better, but the full echo is simply more convenient to use.

If you mean the amp, it's an Onkyo A9010. The Bluetooth adaptor is a Pure Jongo. Hope this helps.
