They do look a bit cheap compared to an original one though, the gold and rose gold especially.
I'm sitting here looking at the Aldi website and my own cream GPO 746 and I know which one I'd prefer.
Sure, so dialling on the old rotary dial is a PITA, but I'd guarantee it's better build, has a more substantial feel to it, and looks better than this Aldi buttons thing..
Still, decent price.

Aww, you're lucky though. Ye, I'd go for the cream or the duck egg blue. Although Pampas or Avocado would've been sweet

Lol. And if you tried to hurry up the dial on its ' click click' way back, the number wouldn't register

They are push buttons rather than a true rotating dial …. But nice find.

A local company sell and restore the real GPO phones. They were £45 a few years back but prices seem to be rising. My mate has the red and white phone and his nephew had no idea how to use it. Lol... The phone is £85 now. Few sites on net but this is the one I mentioned. Telephone Surgery https://g.co/kgs/cxvAVD

all about the rotating dial though, this would annoy me every time i saw it because you cant dial up like you could in the old days!

There must be a time soon when the rotating dial will stop working.

The exchanges still work with pulse dialling, if they ever stop supporting them it'd be easy to make pulse to DTMF converters between your phone and socket.

Not voting either way. Pretty sure you could put anything from Aldi on here and it will go hot. Only just joined but my initial findings are iPhone deals go cold, Aldi deals go hot, someone posts a NOW TV deal at least a few times a day which always goes hot and anything computer related is met by so called experts who judge and bicker between themselves about its value.

Always disappointed by these "retro" phones.
They lack the one thing that made the originals cool - the rotating pulse dialler.
:disappointed:

Loads in Aldi, Wellingborough Road, Northampton. Thought they looked quite cheap so didn't bother.

The retro phones I like are the GPO Duke and Duchess. Got boyf the Duke from Amazon Warehouse the other week - though he does say it's a bit plasticky in real life.
I'm too spoiled, I prefer caller display and hands-free, but useful for a room that doesn't make a lot of landline calls.

I don't get these at all. Retro decoration, fair enough, if that's the way you roll, but retro technology is just demented... Why have a corded old fashioned house phone when you could have a cordless phone with answer machine & caller display, saved numbers etc instead?
I don't see anyone selling 'retro' vhs players or crt tvs, so why do the same with your phone?

I bet you there are people still using VHS & CRT!

I still have an original Red rotor dial phone from the 60's or 70's, works well and feels so nice and solid.

I have quite a few original 70s and 80s rotary and push-button phones, work well with my voip box. Nothing beats the sound of an old fashioned bell, or the original 'trimmm, trimmm'. And my 776 /Jubilee phones are gorgeous.
Would be ashamed to use one of these fake retro devices, no matter how cheap. Get onto ebay, find an original in decent condition or repaint a tatty one.
