Been after a laptop with an SSd for my Mrs for general browsing and uploading photos. This will be more than good enough for that. Yes processor isnt as good as the latest i3/i5 but the benchmarks are much better than past atom processors. Can take advantage of 12 months BNPL too. Lots of very codes going around too, although they maybe account specific to bring the price down even more. I had a £20 credit code so got it to £229. Specs below:
The great value Acer Aspire ES 15 Laptop features an impressive full HD display.
An Intel Pentium processor and 4Gb of RAM ensure it can handle all your everyday computing jobs, including surfing the web, social networking, emailing and paying those pesky bills.
A 128Gb Solid State Drive ensures everything happens fast, including super-quick boot-up times that let you get straight on with whatever you need to do next.
This Aspire ES Series laptop's 15.6 inch LED-backlit screen brings everything you love to life in a 1920x1080 full HD resolution, including your favourite websites, photos and watching a movie on the built-in DVD drive. BluelightShield™ software also reduces eye strain, which is perfect for long browsing sessions.
User-friendly Windows 10 operating software puts personalisation at the heart of your computing experience, while the built-in webcam is ideal for video chats. Tap, Swipe, Scroll, and Zoom through your day using the Precision Touchpad, where palm rejection technology and pinch-to-zoom capability means you’ll always be in control.
USB 3.0 and HDMI ports are conveniently placed in the back of the device and a built-in webcam with microphone is perfect for video chats with family, friends and work colleagues.
This model comes equipped with a Solid State Drive (SSD). Unlike a traditional Hard Disk Drive which is made up of moving parts, a Solid State Drive uses flash memory and has no moving parts, therefore making it more resistant to damage. Furthermore, a Solid State Drive is faster to boot-up, and produces quicker loading and read-writing rates

Using standby/hibernate would have it working even quicker (and with the low power consumption you shouldn't have to worry about the battery running out in standby). This is a great price for this spec - personally I would buy an optical drive caddy and replace the DVD with a sizeable (500GB-2TB) mechanical hard drive for ample storage...

Would this be ok for general web browsing? It would also have to load up quick as I have a very impatient father. Would this be suitable?

Hi
Could anyone advise me, would this be good enough for a gift for my mom, all she uses her laptop for is playing games on Facebook (daily), Skyping my Aunt & family abroad, using her email & some browsing?
Thanks in advance!

Not bad at all for a laptop that will only sip juice. The Apollo Lake N4200 has a TDP of only 6W.
It won't break an speed records but for a general use laptop, will do a reasonable job.
A good alternative to a Chromebook if you need a little extra storage and oomph.

i used KV6XK it does say its only for me, but worth a try. It gives you £20 to your account if you use BNPL

It does look decent with those specs but that Pentium N4200 is an Atom-class CPU vs even the most basic Core i3 so for process hungry tasks it won't be so good. It's frugal on power though so depends what you're doing. The SSD will offset the slow CPU by a long way though.

thanks all for the advice guys. still unsure what to do. The lenovo 510 with an upgrade to a ssd would be ideal but that's pushing the budget further again. £250-300 was about max. Can't expect much in this price range, still waiting for a super deal

Honestly, I wouldn't buy any PC without an SSD. This will run fast faster than any non SSD PC in terms of boot time, responsiveness around windows etc. A faster CPU will beat it in raw processing, like video editing and gaming, but for basic laptop usage, this will be great. Heat OP.

I was in the same boat as you. The reason i didnt go for the lenovo was it doesnt have an SSD, and i currently use a lenovo with an SSD and i dont think i could ever go back to a standard HDD. But the processor is more powerful, so it depends what you plan on using it for

ACER only come with Intel Pentium N4200 / 1.1 GHz ( 2.5 GHz ) / 2 MB Cache, a very very slow CPU, although ACER put an SSD on, as somehow an advantage to boost the system running faster.
I will recommend you to choose LENOVO 510, but replace/upgrade the original HDD to a SSD. That only costs you an £40 more but your system will fly after that.

For office and Internet this laptop will be amazingly fast due to the ssd, as long as you don't have more that 50gb of stuff to story I'd use this over any i3 / i5 non ssd laptop

Full HD and an SSD for £249. This is value for money. Heat from me!
