They wont drop until MORE people have 4K TV & Players and then the economies of scale will kick in.

Fortunately the XBox One S has hit the market so a load of people will suddenly have a 4K player (myself included)

you said it. your average tv buying customer doesn't want to spend hours tweaking their set and also doesn't want infinite contrast ratios. They want the best pic they can get for
their money. i have a Samsung 55 inch 4k led tv, and it isn't oled. But the picture still looks incredible. and pretty much everyone that comes to my house sees it and says wow. stop looking down your nose at people. It's disgusting.

Zuulan
25 Nov 16 #136
Thanks, a re-set of the system and it now shows 3840 x 2160 UHD. Picture looks no better (still outstanding), so I suspect it was always in 4k mode but it just show it on the info screen.

You're viewing HD, not UHD Zuulan
UHD (4K) should show 3840 pixels × 2160 lines.
Perhaps a setting on the Xbox needs updating for the new TV?
You may need a different spec HDMI?

Received mine today and I'm very happy. Looks stunning but does anyone know if my TV (Samsung 55JU7500) should say it 4k or UHD or something when the 'Info' is pressed? It only says 1920 x 1080 / 24p

I'm using the HDMI cable supplied with the Xbox 1 S and HDMI port 1.

I know they cost a lot but that doesn't mean they aren't worth every penny, if you even looked at that page fully you will have seen that OLED outperforms LCD in practically every area (by a mile too) - that's fact not opinion and you can have OLED for £979 and while that's a lot, it's not 'silly money'

back on topic, this collection at under £7 a title is a smasher and I'd have to say the best looking of these six for me is The Maze Runner which surprised me but I think it's because there isn't much CGI and HDR seems to lend itself to natural environments

No they don't. Reviews vary but most I've read are consistenmtly saying such as, "On the whole, the Panasonic DX902/ DX900 is an exceptional 4K HDR TV whose picture quality is likely to rank among the best we’ll see all year. The only upcoming displays which can possibly match or surpass its performance are the LG OLEDs, Samsung KS9500 or Sony XD94, but all of them are going to be more expensive at launch, making the Panasonic TX-58DX902B an irresistible choice for prospective buyers who want first-rate image fidelity without paying silly money."

marginally? hmm what are these? facts that prove otherwise:

The article proves what I said, and the fact they've had to re-think OLED to compensate the uneven wear emphasises it. OLED is getting much better (never said otherwise) but the latest tech is very much more expensive that a high end LCD and for your average person with a limited budget, I stand by my recommendation of a Sony 9305 or a Panasonic 902 *IN RESPONSE TO THE OP*. I'm sure OLED will lead in the future but currently, in the price vs quality war, the price gap makes LCD far more attractive, and the quality gain of OLED over LCD is only evident at the high OLED end and even there, is only marginally better as most professional reviews make abundantly clear.
Getting bored with OLED obsessives now; I'll not bother arguing any more.

such a lovely person, just to put your ridiculous claims to rest for good here is some fact:

http://www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1465304750

OLED lifespan is 100,000 hours. All the OLED's I've owned have all been fine too as have the vast majority of every other owners

I'm not desperate. If you'd read up on OLED technology you'd realise that one of the biggest problem with 3 light sources is uneven wear from those different light source outputs resulting in premature colour unevenness. The blue wears out so much faster that they're trying to build in larger blue LED's to compensate. So, carry on patronising everyone who dares disagree with your blinkered views and make yourself look a total fool.

Did that in the shop. Marginally better I'll grant you but marginally. The Sont and the Panasonic flagship LED's are awesome though
Now factor in the technological issues that are not yet overcome in OLED, ands the price difference. Instantaneous comparison is simply not the final decision factor for me.

A FALD LCD tv would be a good option, Hisense do some at reasonable prices with HDR but I'm not sure about you're other requirements. The difference is huge with the FALD tech, I would defo check it out - much better black levels, higher contrast ratio (average VA LCD is about 2500:1, the last FALD LCD I owned was over 12000:1)
paulanscombe
20 Nov 16 #111
its only better tech depending on what you want from it.. i need a good mid point between lag and picture quality. also had to be a 10 bit panel with a great brightness. the KS8000 is the closest to OLED but with the better HDR and lag.

its all a matter of opinion right now.. until OLED can match the perks of LED/LCD in a few years time
wifi300usb
20 Nov 16 #110
240p to 4320p slighty overstating my point...I'll concede that one lol. Input lag is an issue for sure but I would of thought the more serious gamer that really needs 20ms or lower would be using a pc monitor.

I was wondering how they had made these 4K blurays look so good, it's not the resolution as netflix's original 4k shows are shot with proper 4k cameras and they don't look as good. My gut says it's the 10 bit color depth finally been used but it could be HDR

HDR is so interesting but also confusing but there's no doubt about it, it's like a touch of magic has been added. When I first learned about HDR I misunderstood it completely, thinking wow 1000 nits those sunrises's will be gorgeous but then I read a lot until the bulb went off - it's capturing all the extra detail in a much higher range of light so now to me at least it seems obvious why it looks so much better. All that extra detail captured, with the extra resolution to help us see it and all that extra colour depth equals a wonderful standard but to see it properly you're going to need a tv that can reproduce a high range of detail accurately and the answer is oled due to it's self emissive nature

if you are the average consumer I completely get that you just want the tv that is the latest tech and likely care more about the tv's appearance than the picture quality, which is fine each to their own. I do get frustrated when people spend a lot of money on LCD's though when I know that they would be getting a better picture quality on an OLED, I guess I'm just salty that the better tech is losing the battle albeit not by quite as far as it was

whatever tv you buy HDR is definitely no gimmick
paulanscombe
19 Nov 16 1 #109
240p to 4320p... dude you are being ridiculous. ofcourse if you put them side by side the black levels will be better on a OLED.. thats the selling point! comparing to the 10bit panel on KS8000 though the contrast isnt that different, the brightness on the samsung also means it is far superior to the OLED with its HDR (which some consider a greater leap in tech than HD to UHD)

and you dont mention the input lag... which for a lot of people (anybody with a console) is a big factor
wifi300usb
19 Nov 16 #108
Research? have you ever put a 55" OLED side by side with an LCD in a genuine home viewing environment? well I have. There's a huge difference in black level and contrast and let me tell you something, I'm the type of person that will send something back if the upgrade isn't what I thought it would be and LCD to OLED is like 240p to 4320p

put a Samsung galaxy tab s next any LCD tablet and the difference is huge, watch this video and tell me honestly which screen looks best:

19 Nov 16 #104
I looked at oled in currys and did not see where the extra price difference was. Might have been lg demo was crap and samsungs better. Had the fu9500 off 2 years ago and that's mint for hd but 4K is the next level. Would defiantly pay the extra for 8000 than 7000 even just for the speakers. Big jump up from my fu9500. That was best rated tv that year.

good to know! ive spent a month revising on the best choice of tv to spend my money on. KS8000 hits every tick box for me! until OLED can produce a high enough brightness for great HDR and low enough lag for gaming it can wait! im hoping for the ks8000 to be in the black friday deals at somepoint, then i can have some spare cash for a UHD bluray player

19 Nov 16 1 #101
People are often fooled by the more up to date processing of a 4K film which is going to affect many more areas than just resolution.
Ghostbusters 4K mastered is much better than the old Bluray & well worth the small higher price.

As others have said unless you are projecting this onto a large screen and sitting quite close you won't see the difference.

There are more things to a good picture than simple resolution such as colour gamut and how faithfully it is reproduced. LCD can't really produce blacks which both plasma & OLED can.

I shall stick to 1080p for the time being and with a Panasonic VT reference standard I'm quite happy thank you !

Oh dear! Sad reply!
I want advertising, I was (like you) offering an opinion. I bought a 9305, and only marginally chose it over the 902. I spent many hours in deciding.

It's about the same difference from DVD to BluRay on some films but maybe not so much on others. The Revenant looks amazing but some others aren't such a step up. There is not yet any 3D support in the UHD Blu-ray format so that seems to be dying out.

you think there's no difference between LCD (they're not LED) and OLED? you're delusional but hey as long as your happy, right?. Stop recommending vastly inferior display technologies too it's disgusting
EvilA

For this deal, do you buy a code and bluray as in are they tied together or separate items? Can you keep the code and sell the blurays at CEX?
slliw
19 Nov 16 #50
It's a good deal price wise but the selection of films are not something I'd personally want to rewatch again. I wish they had like Back to the future collection or the Rocky box set in ultra HD. Those are the type of films i don't mind watching over and over again.

Cobblers
Sony 9305 is superb and probably has the best up-scaling of any manufacturer or AV amp
Panasonic 902 also superb (less viewing angle)
neither are OLED which makes no difference to definition, only black levels (and not very much difference to the two above LED's unless you're moving to nearer £5K

They wont drop until MORE people have 4K TV & Players and then the economies of scale will kick in.

Fortunately the XBox One S has hit the market so a load of people will suddenly have a 4K player (myself included)
matengawhat
18 Nov 16 #41
All the solutions at the minute are a compromise with new technology, OLEDs give better blacks but don't go as bright, a lot of cheaper LCD's/leds only have 8 bit not true 10 bit panels, if you have never seen it probably wouldn't miss it, a lot of them give very good images, even bad hdr is better than no hdr. If you're a techie don't buy a 1080p tv now, 4k and hdr is the benchmark for the next couple of years. Many people don't want to drop 2k on a tv

The most important thing with large tvs is getting one without back light bleed, I went through 2 Samsungs, 2 lgs and ended compromising on a Panasonic best balance, great black levels but still not perfect as only 8bit panel and offers about 600nits of brightness but best set I've seen for long time for money and great smart tv features

Ok I see so many comments on how amazing HDR is, is it possible to get a good HDR tv for under 1000 pounds? If so could somebody link me one or two as I would t know where to start looking or what to look for!

there isn't one, save up for an LG B6 (£1799) or C6 (£1999). The LCD's honestly don't even reproduce it, they don't even show normal 1080p blurays correctly (light control, even FALD's struggle).

If you can't stretch to that budget then a 1080p OLED (LG55EG910V is £979 on and off at Amazon without HDR) embarrasses any LCD tv side by side. Trust me
wifi300usb
18 Nov 16 1 #37
normal 1080p bluray and UHD code included, I have it
Gozer
18 Nov 16 #36
OOS :disappointed:

I already have Life of Pi in 4K (Samsung HDD) and on 3D Blu-Ray but still this boxset would be amazing value. Maybe the prices of 4K discs will drop soon as few people have a 4k TV & player.
Dellboy2
18 Nov 16 1 #35
Amazon current prices about £124 for the individual releases so great if you have a 4k player.
matengawhat
18 Nov 16 #34
People that have bought it say there are also blu rays included, Amazon often have disc counts wrong in descriptions more times that right. Nearly every uhd I've bought so far listed single disc in description but full detail in the title
Bal
18 Nov 16 #33
You get a 4k disc for each film and a code to download the movie... there isn't another normal blu-ray disc included.
Dellboy2
18 Nov 16 #32
Still a good deal though if you only want the 4k discs.
Dellboy2
18 Nov 16 #28
Just looking at amazon says only 6 discs so may just be the 4k Ultra discs, would
have to be 13 discs to include the hd blu ray discs in the individual releases.

I saw that amazon states 6 discs, but reading reviews it says the blu-ray versions and digital are included. Hoping they are!

yes each have their own case with 1080p bluray included, I tried to explain to them but the person had no initiative. Suggested he ask his supervisor which he/she says he did but it was a might quick reply and of course a 'no, why would we do the that?, it will only benefit us both and save hassle we can't have that now can we?'

idiots
matengawhat
18 Nov 16 1 #8
Did they all come in individual cases with blu rays as well?

I had this recently with a hard disc, made me return it, waited for new one to arrive and posted back new one with old order number for full refund, hat a joke, not cost effective and killing the planet, they have never had a price match policy but I have always found them good at refunding historically, I think their policy has since changed for the worse
wifi300usb
18 Nov 16 3 #6
bought this 6 days ago at £79.99, spoke to Amazon to just refund me the difference but of course there's no common sense anymore - they're forcing the returns process for the other one and making me buy this. Guy/Girl name 'Harsh' was truly useless

Amazon CS is slipping, thanks for the post it's saved me £40

To anyone who's wondering how much better they look than blurays well it's hard to believe unless you have seen it because it looks wonderful in a way you wouldn't normally describe video quality. I understand HDR but I still don't know how they've managed this, I didn't think we would see this sort of jump for a long time

diminishing returns? no it's the opposite
