£16.60 per litre is really cheap, only time I've bought it cheaper was last Christmas in Morrison's (litre bottle £15) add in the novelty of a 3L bottle to use on my optic instead of the 1.5L bottle I currently use and this is a must have for me :smile: Hope getting hold of one will be easy enough.

I have a 3ltr JD with it's own cradle that i got ten years ago from America (still un-opened) cost me $59 back then so a great wee bargain to be had here folks and instead of either on it's own or with coke try it with Ginger Beer not the cheap ****, Jamaica Ginger Beer will do, Cpl ice cubes or crushed ice slice of lime all in a long glass, a wee quick mix and yer ready to get it doon yer neck (about a Cpl doubles in ech glass should be efficient) :wink:

This reminds me of the NAAFI in BAOR (Germany) late 80s/early 90s. Used to have 3L bottles of Asbach Brandy, Smirnoff and Bells, all for around £5 each (tax free). The Smirnoff was useful for the car as was cheaper than antifreeze and windscreen de-icer. Also used to be able to bring home crates of Grolsch with the swing-top bottle and get more deposit back on the bottle in UK than it cost for the full ones in Germany.

Jack Daniels bottle is very weak, guess made of recycled glass . Be very careful while handling this. My other half broke one litre bottle in front or our door while unloading it from the car. Lucky I had two more. I had to clean up broken glass and spilled drink. Plus loss of £20 drink.

2 of those equals 1.4 litres though but I totally get where you're coming from. The only thing I'll ever do with JD is mix it, whereas stand alone bourbons like those in that link are absolutely amazing to drink neat. I'm no expert on the gear, I'd rather drink Somalian pinot noir and I don't dig wine either I hasten to add, but as far as I know and after a brief check on google even this bog standard Jack D is around an apple a bottle.
3 litres is close to four and a half bottles so even with my basic maths that comes in at 80 to 90 quid's worth, I'd say a bully is great value myself......great value for anyone fond on chucking paint stripper down their gut that is :smirk:

Just back from the states and the prices were dearer than at home,1ltre bottles were around the $30's and the 70cl $20 before their tax , hence the first time l never brought any back.
I have 2 types of these from my travels to the states and they are a great talking point as not many people see these large type of bottles, l bought them in the duty free for $80 when it was 1.97 to the dollar , doubt we will see those rates in a hurry.
So at this price it's definitely hot even if you don't like JD, the bottle and cradle are visually great to have in the kitchen.

They can however keep them in the stock room to one side and pay for them after or during their shift, so it shows up on the system as all above board, or have them in hand ready to pay when the shop opens but before a customer has chance to pick them up.

1. The fuss is its is an iconic drink, and i love the stuff,
2. its only expensive over here in rip off Britain more modest prices in europe, and as cheap as any other in USA apart from tourist traps of course.
3. Yes Bourbon is a whisky, so are Scotch and Rye but only in the same was as Chardonnay, Lambrini and the one your granny makes out of nettles are all wines. (By the way the OP actually said the difference between Scotch and Bourbon ......not whisky and Bourbon)
4. There are no rules when enjoying any whisky, mix it how you want, yes there used to be spirit snobs, but they are for when women couldnt wear jeans and men had to wear a bowler hat to work.
Personally i dont mix very often, and if we are being bitter about it,.....Grants is only good enough to go in a cup of tea.

Interesting titbit though...
... I joked with him and said that surely the staff will have first dibs with thier discounts. Apparently this is not the case as A) staff don't have discounts on spirits and B) are excluded from the Black Friday Deals - Bit harsh, but atleast that allays some of the concerns here.

Depends on local council, and the licence the store has applied (and or paid) for.
No good paying for a 24 hour licence if the store is only open for 12.

Haven't posted before but wanted to feedback in case anyone was dubious. Myself and 5 others were waiting for the bristol store to open this morning, can confirm the offer is genuine although were informed very limited stock. As they are reasonably 'high ticket items' you need to ask staff to fetch it from the back. The bristol store said they only had 15 in; be quick to avoid disappointment :smiley:

Just got mine from my local morrisons, first in the queue and i was told that they only had 7 in stock, Guy behind me was saying that he had reserved 2 on Saturday when they had been put out on display, but the manager was saying that he could only give him one, Not sure if he went back in to buy another.
Had to ask for my 10p off petrol voucher and had to wait for the manager to get me one, while waiting, Staff was taking out their bottles to their cars, So staff were buying the bottles, So i would imagine that at least 13 bottles had been put a side by staff, Thank you to the OP, Wife will be happy Xmas day. Was tempted to try and buy another in the next town, but how much money do you spend on drink!!!

I don't believe that, my local store is tiny and there was over 20 out for sale this morning, add in the ones that had been put by for staff. These stores claiming to have only a few delivered are lying, I think the staff have reserved more in those stores, so there's only 6 left for sale.
You'd think they'd get a pallet load at a time, why would they just send 6 to some stores.

Which was great, not least because when I paid for the first one, I got a £5 voucher for spending £50 - which I immediately gave back to her for the second one - so I got that for £45 because of their rules!!

Took my son on the early morning Morrisons run, this morning, just on the off chance they had received another delivery as they sold out so quickly yesterday. (Already had mine at 7.06am yesterday)
Hand tip, dont believe the floor staff, got told by one they had none delivered, and by another that it was a one day deal only and they couldnt sell them even if they did have any, we trusted our instincts as the two we asked were decidedly cagey in thier answers, went to customer services who fetched 2 from the store room no problem at all.

Opened mine up today. The pourer is superb! A plastic "spout" works brilliantly.
It however, doesn't taste of the usual Jack Daniels I've come to expect.
Kind of thin, less smoky and very lemony.
I guess such a large bottle has affected it.... or it's fresher than usual. Either way it doesn't taste like normal. Hope my other bottle ain't the same.

Got mine from Morrisons Swinton yesterday got there at 7:15am thinking I was late but it seemed people in Swinton didn't even bother to go. There was about 15 when I got my 2. Lady at the toll said they had only sold 3 that morning. <3:)

The ironic thing is at least half the people that "really love Jack" mix it with something or other so how's that loving it?
When you truly rate a fine tipple you're not going to butcher it with flavoured fizzy sugar, when you do you're doing so to disguise it's nastiness.
Jack fan boys and girls get all defensive when you say this but the vast majority of them love the brand far more than they savour the actual product

im a bit of a whisky connoisseur , but at the end of the day jd is ok for what it is. its a good whiskey to swill down with pals without worrying about breaking the bank. its not particularly refined but it has a strong flavour and character. add to that the brand awareness and its a winner. still inferior to a good bottle of jim beam, in my humble opinion though and that was 20 pounds for two bottles the other week at morrisons

I'm not at all a whiskey drinker, but as a firm believer of mixing any spirit being sacrilege I can manage a Scotch or two straight and half enjoy it but not that Jack. I've even got a bottle of the single barrel Jack on the spirits rack for guests who like that sort of thing but I'm telling you now if they asked to have it with a mixer they'd get a can of Tizer instead.
I might dislike our Gaulic neighbours across the Channel with a rather unsavoury passion but they are more than welcome to every one of Her Majesty's Pounds Sterling spare I have when it comes to their cognac.
When I'm out I might have the odd Jäger or vodka if there's not a decent brandy about but even with the vodka I only dig that Polish bison grass variety as to me it's the only vodka that has a clearly distinctive taste.

I have bought JD over Christmas several times at £12 per 70cl (£17.14 per litre) but this deal trumps even that. It'd be extremely difficult to get it for less.
I have 2 types of these from my travels to the states and they are a great talking point as not many people see these large type of bottles, l bought them in the duty free for $80 when it was 1.97 to the dollar , doubt we will see those rates in a hurry.
So at this price it's definitely hot even if you don't like JD, the bottle and cradle are visually great to have in the kitchen.
Last time unopened one of these (last week), I finished it in one night..
Hopefully the next bottle will last a bit longer..

4. There are no rules when enjoying any whisky, mix it how you want, yes there used to be spirit snobs, but they are for when women couldnt wear jeans and men had to wear a bowler hat to work.

I'd say most average stores got 30 or more and then if managers were playing by the rules they all hit the floor for sale.
Bigger stores no doubt got more.
Plenty left when I got mine (albeit, almost 3 hours ago now)... but that might have been helped by the fact that they weren't at the front of the store, as they were on the end of the alcohol aisle.
They seem very strict about one per person and from the sounds of it they are going fast and the stock is obviously very limited. No 10p off petrol coupon but I'm happy, as it looks amazing and perfect timing for Christmas!
