What makes you say that? I've bought several of the 3TB variants in the past and they've all been blue or green...

Really?! I've got a 3TB in the house - never thought of even cracking it open.

Are these fairly easy to take out the casing? I've been eying up 3tb drives for my PC but 2tb for £45 is nothing to scoff at. Fed up with having to sort out my steam library all the time

Terrible reliability, the software controller is abysmal.

I suppose, to be fair, I should have clarified to say that 'based on the ones i've had in the past'. I've had a my book and a my cloud and both have had red drives inside but i can certainly accept that it might not always be the case.
the case is a bit of a sod to get open though

Can you reformat this for use as a external Xbox one hard drive ?

According to reviews on Amazon, it appears that you can use it on XB1

You can use practically any usb connected external drive, it really isn't fussy, you don't need a special one. I have the 3TB version of this and it works very well with Xbox One. That said I've nearly filled it, not as hard as you would think with regular 360 bc updates adding more games almost daily and GWG it's surprising how fast that space goes.
Will have to hope for a good deal on a 5 or 6TB this black friday...

I found them quite easy to take out, just wedged a flat-head screwdriver in to lever the sides apart. Twice in the past year I've bought 2x3TB drives for £90 from this WD offer as there is usually £10 off a £100 spend

What's a recertified hard drive? a faulty return with a quick format done and a lesser guarantee, no thanks.

Bought one of these a couple of months ago, arrived like new but kept dropping connection to my pc, ran diags on it and reported the drive was failing so had to send it back for a refund.

Seems post Brexit it is quite hard to find this - I paid £95 for 2x3TB drives in March 16 but now it is much dearer.

I assume the warranty is invalidated if you remove them from the enclosure?

They're second hand so only come with a 30-day return anyway and you have to pay the return shipping.

This one most definitely wont be a WD Red - they only use the Reds in NAS or cloud based back up devices. The red drives are optimised for "always on" - the blue and green are standard & power saving. Green in a NAS or cloud device will lead to earlier failure (from my experience)

Were these drives manufactured in the EU? I guess Brexit now replaces 'Thailand flood 2012'...
There are loads of great deals at the moment (and will be even more Friday) - many that are better than 'pre-Brexit' *pffft*

It's got nothing to do with manufacturing location, the £ has collapsed against the dollar considering computer parts are all based on the US dollar hence why everything has gone up

Can you suggest some great deals which are available now ? May be will buy more on Friday if it is much better deal then.

No hard drive deals I'm aware of (yet) - I meant (electronics) in general. I'm more curious about the correlation between this deal and Brexit

22 Nov 16#24
There is no correlation with Brexit. I just raised the point that because of price increases after the referendum vote, it is difficult to get hard drives at prices I used to buy re-certified drives. I normally staggered purchases to ensure that I have warranty on the most recent hard drive and this used to fine as hard drives used to get cheaper over time. So as somebody pointed Brexit was like the 2011 Thailand floods where the rule that hard drives become cheaper as time passes was broken.

It says '30-day return guarantee'. Is there no warranty beyond that period?

Surely you're covered by the Sale of Goods Act.
Goods must be fit for purpose etc so I'd expect at least a six month cover on these in legal terms.
