As in last less time before you need to change the batteries..... not sure about the difference some are warm white, some are bright white, look at the questions and answers for each ones you are interested in on the Argos page and the reviews

Why would you say the battery operated ones are going to last less?
BTW. any difference between 160 and 200 lights besides the obvious ? Both are 7.99..

Ended up buying the Xmas tree path lights - seems ok and for a tenner not bad, even if they only last one season - IV44 rated so suits moderate splashing of liquids. But maybe if ends up under snow they won't fare so well.

It is just perfect actually! Took me an hour to untangle the lights though. My tree is very wide - at least 5ft wide at the bottom so definitely need lots of lights!

I bought the star ones a few weeks back and they were battery operated too so I'm not having much luck!! Get other half to take them back tomorrow to if they have mains if not will get money back as they will not last long at all and cost a fortune in batteries!!

Its rubbish if its batteries only - they should put that in the description - good luck for the other half tomorrow

Really? Someone said they went to get the star ones and some were battery some were mains - maybe ask them when you take them back? I wouldn't of thought the battery would last that long to go on a timer!

The star lights hanging across the window are mains. I have 2 sets. Relatively long cable and for £5 a bargain.

Just to let you know the item number is the same for both battery and mains star lights.
I reserved online and when i collected my order , i was given battery operated ones. I asked the guy to check if it came with mains ( as reviews say people were also given mains or battery ) . He checked his stock , and came back with mains , same line number just different box , so worth checking if you want a specific one

I bought these last year. Just lifted them out to put outside again this year and they still work fine, even with the chewed wire from my thoughtful cat :innocent:

Hi there,
I've looked into this and these lights do need to be plugged in indoors.
I hope this helps :-)
Thanks for using Argos Q&A.

I have an outside power socket, can this be used, or does the plug and transformer have to be indoors?

You know lead is another word for cable right? So you could have a 5M lead to a battery

How do people plug in outside lights? Do you need an outside socket?
ella123 to sterankin
30 Nov 16#33
Yes, you do (but I've seen my neighbours cables hanging out of the window)...
andrewm1975 to sterankin
30 Nov 16#35
Outside socket is the easiest way, get an electrician to pop you one to an external wall, and you can get waterproof boxes and extension leads to use outside for the lights. Some of the smaller lights have thin wires you may find you get lucky and can still close a window or door with the wire running out from an inside plug.
emribena
30 Nov 16#34
Yes - 5m lead = socket why else would they have a 5m lead?

I got a set of the 480 LED lights 3 years ago and they are fantastic. Ordered another set a couple days ago to put on my outside tree, they had an extra 25% off code yesterday - HOME25 - not sure if its still on.

29 Nov 16#17
Great, thank you! I'll just need to decide how many lights to go for now! ☺
Yes you can use them on a tree, they have a timer as well - apparently the rule is 100 lights for 3 ft of height so you might just be ok or get 2 sets?
Jeleigh
29 Nov 16#15
This might seem like a ridiculous question but it's completely genuine! Can the LED lights be used on a Christmas tree? It doesn't actually say so I just want to check! Also, does anyone know if this would be the correct amount of lights for a 7ft tree? I am looking at these ones in particular: http://www.argos.co.uk/product/5398683
I usually have a Pre-lit tree but just bought one of the ones on offer at Tesco and it doesn't have lights! ☺

Just a heads up. I looked into the Christmas tree pathfinder lights and a lot of the reviews sat they stopped working in a short amount of time and went rusty after being outside, I ended up not bothering with them in the end.
