New period drama The Crown, starring Claire Foy and Matt Smith, launches this Friday 4th November on Netflix – and you can watch it on Radio Times thanks to a special gift offer with this week's issue.
It’s easy to claim – no payment required, no card details taken, and it works if you're an existing Netflix subscriber too.
The printed edition of the Radio Times contains a unique code rather than a generic code that anyone can use.

no matter how many of these codes have been "stolen + stacked" you will get one free month as per the T&C's. when the next billing cycle comes around they simply take the amount that as been added to your account using this method which then equates to the "1 code per customer". so adding 10 for £74.90 credit is identical to adding 1 for £7.49 credit.

Three things
1) theft is theft, it's taking something that doesn't belong to you, simple. Until you buy the magazine, the code isn't yours to use;
2) by taking the codes, you are making life that bit more difficult for someone else who then has to go through the hassle of writing or emailing over a non working code;
3) it will hurt everyone in the end, as when Netflix/RT realise, they probably won't ever run a promo like this again, so we all lose out in the end;
Think of your how your behaviours impact your fellow humans more, and perhaps the world would be a brighter place to live.

I do think that the Radio Times made a mistake not sealing the magazine with the Nextflix code in it - maybe the expense of doing so put them off, but it has left it wide open to abuse.
One tip: If there's a stack of magazines in the store, pick one from near the bottom of the pile (not the very bottom one though just in case someone sly copies from that) - chances are that someone noting/photoing the code will take from the top in most cases for speed/laziness.
It does raise the interesting question - if someone notes/photos the code and is spotted by the store doing so, is there anything the store can legally do about it?

Have you ever noticed how fast some deals become 'hot', a majority are a glitch or misprice to be exploited. I bet you this one falls into that category.

The bottom line is if you take a code and don't buy the mag, then you're a thief. You're also denying the actual purchaser of the mag a working code. This is all made worse by the fact the mag is only £2.30. If the codes stack you can have a year of Netflix for less than £30, but evidently that's just not enough for some.

It is the same, might not be worth as much as robbing someones house, but its exactly the same. Mate you can try and justify your actions until the cows come home, your actions don't warrant a concise argument or debate, as there is no debate..its theft end of....they do indeed warrant personal judgement though...

For all those using the glitch/misprice argument - it doesn't stand up.
This has a direct impact on someone else, who buys the magazine, gets home and finds their code doesn't work.
Fine, if there is a glitch or a misprice on a website, it may or may not affect something other than a companies bottom line.

Just not going to bother with this if so many people are stealing codes. I'm no saint, but I'm not going to waste any time or adrenalin acting suspicously in a shop for something that may or may not work or get cancelled, I'm just not that desperate for TV outside of Freeview.
I can actually visualise people charging down to the shop for no other reason than this when it came out, then putting the code straight in and watching back to back crap. Isn't this is exactly the market Netflix will be aiming for though? That's how promotions work. They want to attract new customers not just a load of dishonest chancers who already use it and want to save a few quid on their membership without even paying for the magaizne.

This is where this place needs an unlike button. That way posts condoning this sort of thing would buried/hidden after X amount of unlikes. Then we would have some degree of community moderation....seeing as the actual mods are too busy sipping cocktails on their yachts at the mo.
1. Person buys magazine.
2. Person cannot redeem code.
3. Person contacts [email protected] and gives non-working code/photographic evidence.
4. RT contacts Netflix and they in turn located the account which used the code and nuke it from space.
5. Profit?

It credits your account.
If you already have a 4K account it will just knock the money off next months bill however it will not be the full amount as this is for the 2 screen subscription. If you join with this code it will be exactly the same, you'll just have to pay £1.50 instead of being completely free.
Code = £7.49
4 screen (4K) subscription = £8.99
Also if you are a new customer you get the first month free, so I imagine new account in conjunction with this offer would give you 2 months 4K for £1.49.

Thanks for the heads up OP. I've got a code (legitimately!) but have a question.
I've never had a netflix account and I know you're entitled to a free month anyway.
So if I use the RT code now am I wasting it as I'll just get a single free month?
Or can I use the RT code - cancel - and still use the first month free another time (as I've not given payment details).
Or do I have to get my free month now and then use the RT code to extend it (making sure I do that before end of Dec)?
Thanks for any suggestions to those who've done it.
knack to nathankw
4 Nov 16#354
The code applies a £7.49 credit to your account. You can start your trial and redeem the code straight away for use next month (you may have to enter payment details to redeem code).
You'll get first month free and the second will be paid for with the credit.
Assuming you go with the HD + 2 screens you won't pay anything for the two months. If you go for the UHD + 4 screens you will be billed £1.50 for the second month.
I don't think it's possible for the two free months to be taken non-consecutively.
knack
4 Nov 161#353
Exactly. The chance of them limiting it to one code after multiple have been sucessfully redeemed is slim and even if they do it was well worth it for the chance of multiple months.

My code was used so I called Netflix on 0800 096 8879 and gave them the code. They also asked me to email them a photo of my voucher. They gave me an account credit and passed the code onto the investigations team. Apparently they have received a lot of calls but I would recommend this approach to others who feel ripped off as worse case you get the credit applied.
I did ask what they would do but they were quite evasive, I suspect they will just clear the balance of the people who stole the codes down to zero. I can't see the police being interested although if I had shoplifted the magazine, the store would have had me arrested. The only scenario I could see the police getting involved in was when someone had stacked several stolen codes but that obviously relies on a lot of people ringing in.
mart321 to Petetobin
5 Nov 161#389
Oh yes I'm sure the police would be interested if someone was found to have stacked several codes, it could even be deemed worthy enough to make the national papers. Maybe a highly publicised trial? Just do what I did matey and contact Netflix and report it. It's a lot easier than getting into verbal fisty cuffs and, if we all did it, then it might exact revenge on some of the code stealers. 5 Nov 16#390
If you had read the thread properly instead of being righteous you will see I am not pretending to be on moral ground. I totally accept what I have done, totally wrong and deviant behaviour but what is the worst that is going to happen to me? If the police come knocking on my door I will say "prove it", more to the point what makes you think I am not trolling to illicit a frank discussion on this issue? How do you know I have not actually made this up - are you going to take the risk of calling the police and say this guy has been fraudulant? thought not, but you wil stew in your anger and I would say , move on.
What I question and have been from the beginning is why people like yourself think you have the right to enagage in this conversation when it is quite clear someone has been judgemental and consequently ends up abusing me and attacking my moral constitution, I do not see you having a go at him? If I wanted to have a go at you I could say you was sanctimonious especially with the word 'killer' in your name?
Only one person on this thread has seen what I am doing and the rest are like a bunch of Boris Johnsons/Nigel Farages' - go with the popular hatred and hope everyone gives them a like.

I published the fact that you can call Netflix and sort this out to help all the people who say they bought a copy of magazine and the code didn't work. Of course the police won't get involved worse case Netflix will empty the account of the person who stole the code which means they have lost nothing. It does however point out that in a technical world you do leave a trail which if someone wanted to would be easy to follow as all the people who stole the codes have linked their address to the code and are on video in their local supermarket stealing the code.

By the same token, what makes you so narcissistic and desperate for attention that you've spent so much of your time bragging about your petty theft?
Understand this: I do not care at all how many codes you take, or about the morals of your actions. You're free to do as you please. However, when you access a public forum courting attention for your actions and bigging yourself up (as if using a free code from a magazine is any kind of achievement...) then you open yourself up to the opinions of the rest of that forum. Mine just happens to be that mouthing off about how clever you are to steal free samples is childish and moronic behaviour.

I am not sure Netflix can divorce themselves of any responsibility, it is their code and it doesn't work. Joe Soap is not going to jump to the conclusion that some lowlife stole their code, all they know is that their code doesn't work and it should.

Netflix will know the code has been used. They have met their end of bargain

In my case I sent them proof that I had the code in my possession via a photo of the magazine and receipt and they removed the credit from the other account and applied it to mine. What's so difficult about that?

Nice one. The more people that take a minute or two to do that the better. Love the idea of the thieves losing the use of the stolen codes and probably having a marker placed on their accounts as well.

It's in their interest to in terms of customers and tracking etc however I doubt they are required to.
Be interesting in what they do to that other account.

The promoter is Radio Times/Immediate Media and as the magazine says, queries regarding redemption should be taken up with them.
It doesn't reflect that well on Netflix though if someone does get a non working code. They could have advised that the code be protected by a scratch panel/magazine bagged.
Netflix were obviously satisfied you purchased the magazine and added the credit to your account, probably as a gesture of goodwill rather than because they were obligated to do so.

Thanks OP, bought a copy of RT on Sunday afternoon. Set up Netflix with free month opening offer and added one of the codes to get another months subs. Free Netflix til 6th Jan! Daughter on year abroad in France very happy because Netflix allows her to watch in France. Sky,Amazon and BBC could learn from this!

Radio Times should have probably pre-wrapped the magazine. You're going to get people taking the codes if it's only on the other side of the cover. Wrap the magazine and you know exactly who has taken the code without buying the publication. Don't agree with the stealing of codes but when you make it that easy for people to do so, you also have to look at the companies that are giving the offer away.

Don't you realise that the item is reduced to that price to generate lots of business with new customers why would you want one customer who is probably never going to buy from you again when you get 300 customers who may think I'm going to go back to the site to check it out you do not sell a loss leader so one person creams the Deal and everybody else gets stitched up

As previously mentioned I am talking about the case of a glitch rather than an offer.... Not sure whats so hard to understand.
davidian84
11 Nov 16#440
You dont understand its the same situation with a glitch. A seller would rather sell the 300 items to 300 different people. its a good form of advertising, builds up goodwill and increases chances of repeat custom.

Netflix have removed my 2nd months credit so it looks like these aren't able to be stacked.
It happened on 11th November and my usual payment date is the 10th of each month.
Anyone else had ther extra month(s) cancelled yet ?

Mine is looking good. I wish I'd gone harder on this deal now. The chances of using up a code that a purchaser would have wanted must have been so small but just think there were probably literally centuries of Netflix codes that just got pulped.

I played it safe and bought 3 magazines costing £6.90. I figured if they stopped code stacking then I wouldn't have lost out at all as it costs £7.50 a month anyway. It was a gamble, and some people did very well out of it.

Has anyone changed their plan from 2 screens (which the offer was for) down to one screen? I want to do that, but I don't want the credit I now have in my account to reduce accordingly. Has anyone given this a go?
Opening post
It’s easy to claim – no payment required, no card details taken, and it works if you're an existing Netflix subscriber too.
The printed edition of the Radio Times contains a unique code rather than a generic code that anyone can use.

My Netflix account now showing £14.98 in credit.
Bought a couple more copies this morning, credit applied. That's it for me now. If they take the credit away, worse case senario is I've bought a copy of Radio Times.

Just started watching Stranger Things, its a Netflix exclusive and really enjoying it so thought I'd recommend one to add to the list if many.
What genre is it? Thriller?
Cancel the free trial. job done.
Unique codes on inside cover. Added to my existing subscription and under account details, it says £7.49 credit will be applied to my next bill.
Who's going to be brave enough to try ?
we still buy the Christmas RT or TVT but even then I thought it was only £2 last year. I must be getting old, or tight, or miserable. definitely 2, maybe all 3.

Big fan of nowtv, but they really p*ssed me off when they split the kids cartoons off into its own subscription.
So decided to get netflix, no way I'm paying £3 a month for kids tv (which unfortunately the kids are now used to).
Seriously can't believe that some people are stealing the codes. I guess empathy is in short supply.
https://www.buysubscriptions.com/print/radio-times-magazine-subscription
However, what I think a lot of people will struggle to believe is that a well-off citizen (assuming you're not on the breadline from the fact you have a 50-inch 3D TV at home - please correct me if I'm wrong) of a first world country, would be willing to stoop so low for the sake of getting an (already heavily discounted) subscription free at the expense of others. Still, as long as you can justify your actions to yourself, that's all that matters
Happy viewing.
Wouldn't I be better off applying for a standard one month free trial direct with Netflix, then applying my code on top of that trial account?
There is getting a good deal, and there is blatant greed. Several posters on here should be ashamed of themselves. Of course they won't be, which is where the despair comes in.
P.S. In polite society, 'poor form' is a far stronger judgement on character than you may think. A thief may even be more welcome at a country Supper.
Radio Times delivered every week - £1 for 12 editions - remember to cancel HUKD often posted

Not justifying my actions at all.
How about if I get hold of your bank details and move some of your money into my account because I decided you probably don't need it? By your logic I haven't stolen anything.
You are stealing. Don't kid yourself that it's anything else. And don't be surprised that people call you a thief and judge you accordingly.
What I said still stands though. The "moral compass" argument is irrelevant. It would be more accurate if it were a generic code that people were taking from the magazine.
It's a free gift with the magazine. How would you like it if you bought one and found the code had been used?
If I was to buy the Radio Times and raise the expecations of the code working I would go to a small shop, local newsagent, its easy to abuse this in a large supermarket.
I want to add you to my ignore list, but it's a fascinating insight into a mindset I just cannot comprehend. It's like a car crash....I just can't look away.
*inb4 the mods warn me for not being polite to other users.*
1) theft is theft, it's taking something that doesn't belong to you, simple. Until you buy the magazine, the code isn't yours to use;
2) by taking the codes, you are making life that bit more difficult for someone else who then has to go through the hassle of writing or emailing over a non working code;
3) it will hurt everyone in the end, as when Netflix/RT realise, they probably won't ever run a promo like this again, so we all lose out in the end;
Think of your how your behaviours impact your fellow humans more, and perhaps the world would be a brighter place to live.
One tip: If there's a stack of magazines in the store, pick one from near the bottom of the pile (not the very bottom one though just in case someone sly copies from that) - chances are that someone noting/photoing the code will take from the top in most cases for speed/laziness.
It does raise the interesting question - if someone notes/photos the code and is spotted by the store doing so, is there anything the store can legally do about it?
nothing but pure greed, as someone else said. Now not only will someone else pay for money and not receive a code (making it a cold deal for them), netflix will realize this and never do this again. Thus everyone loses in the long run.
Mate you can try and justify your actions until the cows come home, your actions don't warrant a concise argument or debate, as there is no debate..its theft end of....they do indeed warrant personal judgement though...
Other than comparing it to other hot deal glitches (****) you have yourself provided no concise argument ironically, as to why this should be deemed justified.
You on the other hand, have also provided NO informative argument as to why this is acceptable..so i don't know why you're going down this route.
Ah! i see, so if you knew you wouldn't get arrested for robbing someone elses house, you would happily do it? not bothered about the person you're stealing from?
This has a direct impact on someone else, who buys the magazine, gets home and finds their code doesn't work.
Fine, if there is a glitch or a misprice on a website, it may or may not affect something other than a companies bottom line.
This impacts the old lady standing next to you who has walked for miles in the cold to get her RT.
I can't believe this is even an argument, theft is theft simple.
cheers! May you have hot deal karma!
look, if you buy mag and the code doesn't work, just go back to the store and use a code from a different mag. if that doesn't work, use a code from a mag from a different store.
its not hard. no need for all this whining.
Never used Netflix, but might give it a go at this price. Heat added.
I can actually visualise people charging down to the shop for no other reason than this when it came out, then putting the code straight in and watching back to back crap. Get a life some of you! go and do some voluntary work instead if you have this much time on your hands - much more fulfilling and better Karma
If he infact did do this, then god help him........
Made sure they worked and then paid for the mags.
£14.98 credited to my account.
Thanks OP
:smirk:
1. Person buys magazine.
2. Person cannot redeem code.
3. Person contacts [email protected] and gives non-working code/photographic evidence.
4. RT contacts Netflix and they in turn located the account which used the code and nuke it from space.
5. Profit?
Take it it's a streaming service
What can I watch what I can't on sky or Kodi
Is it more stable platform
Do you buy a Netflix box or through game console etc
Think of the trees!
it's really disgusting to read some comments here.
It adds credit to your account. It works but won't cover an entire month.
:laughing::smiley::smile::):laughing::smile:
Theft? you are paying for the newspaper, not the code
you havnt stolen the newspaper, most likely the netflix code says it has no monetary value
Am new to this so any help appreciated thanks.
If you already have a 4K account it will just knock the money off next months bill however it will not be the full amount as this is for the 2 screen subscription. If you join with this code it will be exactly the same, you'll just have to pay £1.50 instead of being completely free.
Code = £7.49
4 screen (4K) subscription = £8.99
Also if you are a new customer you get the first month free, so I imagine new account in conjunction with this offer would give you 2 months 4K for £1.49.
Worse still, it may be an HUKD community member stocking up on this offer and that's unforgiveable!
I now have 8 months netflix paid for
Disgusting lack of morals that some people have.
What was the point of your post?
It's got Judge Rinder in it.
Face value plus postage at cost.
Anyway, I've heard regardless of codes stacked after a month it all gets zeroed. So be interesting to see if that is the case.
:man:
Bit disappointed they didn't have more copies of Radio Times in stock ...
P.S. I'm not moralising, I'm mocking you for thinking that using a code from a magazine you haven't paid for is any sort of an achievement. Whether it's one or twelve; let's be honest, you've hardly TWOC'd the crown jewels have you?
Yes as it is Fraud by False Representation as per the Fraud Act 2006 as you are fraudulently representing that you have bought the magazine to make a gain for yourself or another. You could also be found guilty of Obtaining Services Dishonestly as per the Fraud Act for the same reasons as above.
As theres nothing how would you know to refer to page 21!
Well - Im sure it will stop working soon then so get them while you can. Not sure they would cancel everyones credit. But guess thats the risk...
Bravo, sir
T & C are there for the benefit of Netflix - not the subscriber
Don't be surprised if your Netflix account is re-assessed where you have entered more than one code on a single account
On a side note, I highly recommend giving Black Mirror a watch, very different kind of TV show, definitely worth a watch
How have we "ruined it" for you? Unless you buy one of the mags that user here took the code off. He ruined it for you not people who paid and took the mags.
I guess they think if you're savvy enough to get RT online, you probably already have a Netflix sub :man:
Edit: Whut?
I'm amazed that this conversation is still going on. The worst thing about the digital revolution is that thieves actually convince themselves they're not stealing.
I've heard those Xbox games just come as a download code now. Why not just pop in Game and see if you can copy a few down without paying?
I suspect the people you think Netflix should target are well aware of Netflix, this is why they're targeting Radio Times.
If people really are stealing code though could you grab me a couple of nowtv boxes on the way out!
Also Stranger Things is good if you've missed that boat
https://www.buysubscriptions.com/print/radio-times-magazine-subscription
Bet they get a surge in sales this month
And for a couple of seconds there the devil on my shoulder whispering "get yer phone out" nearly got the better of me, but the angel on the other shoulder kicked him in the nuts ... so got the wallet out
To the people who have got codes working enjoy and to the person who posted the deal in first place great find well done!!
Hope they worked pal. Mine did but I only got two. New to Netflix me like.
Wonder how many actual radio times readers would even bother with the code, I can imagine most of them going to waste. Now that truly would be a crime.
As for losing a month... Im quaking in my boots. If it goes it goes... I paid the money for the mags so have no guilt.
Seem like Sound people to be honest.
My friend is on a 30 day Netflix trial and I have bought 2 copies of the Radio Times for her.
Queries are:
• Where in the Netflix account are the codes applied?
• Is it okay to apply both codes one after the other? If not what is the best way to apply 2nd code?
• How do you know the two months credit have been applied successfully (on an account that is still in 30
day trial period).
thanks in advance
Appreciate it.
1st code has been credited.
What was the situation in your case? Where were the codes from?
Thanks for the reply.
Is it best to apply now
Wait till next month
Or it makes no difference either way - I don't want my friends account cancelled because of me!
anyone applied two codes more than 48hrs ago thanks
Acting like a petty child
I did ask what they would do but they were quite evasive, I suspect they will just clear the balance of the people who stole the codes down to zero. I can't see the police being interested although if I had shoplifted the magazine, the store would have had me arrested. The only scenario I could see the police getting involved in was when someone had stacked several stolen codes but that obviously relies on a lot of people ringing in.
You are thieving.
You need moral judgement as you're clearly not able to judge your own actions...
Only one person on this thread has seen what I am doing and the rest are like a bunch of Boris Johnsons/Nigel Farages' - go with the popular hatred and hope everyone gives them a like.
especially considering there'll lots of new buyers, purchasing simply for netflix this week.
BTW - thx for the code offers guys my faith in good decent people has been restored.
Really bad some low life has taken the code though. Hope Asda are helpful. You could try contacting Radio Times.
I don't quite understand your desire to "boast" of your petty theft or that you are not a "chav", btw as an academic I taught some chavs who had degrees and I am sure they had audis or equivalent, and seem desperate to derail the thread further.
You robbed some codes to save a few quid resulting in others potentially losing out.
Plenty of selfish people on here, like those who order 300 of something priced at 1p that they don't really need which highlights the glitch the the company and ruins it for everyone, or someone who robs opportunities from other people.
But you carry on, it's quite entertaining in a Wiley cayote type way
Sweet. Netflix is free for you this month.
Next month's plan
Basic for £5.99/month
1 screen
Next billing date
4 December 2016
Next month's bill is covered by your gifts and promotions.

Not Netflix fault the RT put the code in such an obvious place.
now £14.98 in credit! Thanks HUKD
Will we start to see what they are going to do tomorrow, would have been silly to take action while still on shelf but maybe now we will see if they do.
thanks
Be interesting in what they do to that other account.
