Zoostorm Ebay sales have loads of other desktops for around the £100 mark, some with more memory or CPU
Windows 8.1 can immediately consigned to the dustbin where it belongs by using the 'Assistive Technologies' free upgrade path with Windows 10 - so no need to hurt your eyes with nasty Windows 8.1. Ram can probably be upgraded cheaply to 4GB if needed. Chuck in a cheapo SSD and this will actually be a decent basic desktop.

SSD's come in several connection flavours, you need SATA III 6Gbps which is the most common and what this desktop uses. More info here
My choices are Samsumg, Sandisk, Crucial and I would avoid chinese no name brands AND Kingston V300 drives

They aren't so many cheap SSD deals at the moment, MrMemory sometimes has 120GB drives for under £30 but at the moment it seems most 120GB drives are £35 and up (Amazon AMD or Integral SSD for example)

to all those asking about a gaming pc. the gtx 750ti was launched in 2014 giving ps4 beating graphics for 100 quid using low power for off the shelf systems. i got a refurbished viglen pc and works great still today. can put that even in small form factor pcs but need to make sure the right size card. mine was kfa2 model. waiting for similar small size 1050 which just came out. then most of these pcs can be gaming pcs. use cpu benchmark for cpu checking. guessing you need around 2500 minimum?

Seems a great deal. I'm thinking of going down the Assistive upgrade path because recently Win 7 has been failing to update and causing issues on my computer. Never did this before free Win 10 program stopped in July. I think Microsoft are messing around with Win 7 updates to start putting the first nails in its coffin!

Yep, many are having Windows update issues, there are some fixes but they don't work for everyone. Funnily enough this always seems to happen when a new version of Windows comes out, almost like they want the older Windows platform to suffer, of course it's totally coincidental, for sure, yes oh yes.
I used this assistive upgrade and it went perfectly, it's not at all dodgy, just the MS gave people that use certain features of Windows more time to carry out the upgrade.

Do a fresh install of win7 then upgrade to win10 no problem, that is what I did.
Yeah they've got a decent selection of options. I posted the deal that was ready to go. there's even something at £95 but only one of those.

Some reviews suggest there is space for another HDD but also say there isn't a spare power plug on the powersupply so you might need another PSU.

Hmmm.....depends on what games you want to play I suppose, for web games this might be fine, for full on 3d shootem ups this will need more memory, better CPU, graphics card, beefier power supply, SSD drive or larger hard drive (or both) - by then you might have just started with something better from the beginning.
If you're really in low budget arena then maybe this i3 4130 Zoostorm for £159 has a much better CPU that will be fine for some games, then you need a decent graphics card and very likely upgrade the power supply. One thing I don't know is whether these Zoostorm's actually have any upgrade PCI-E slots in them, they probably do but I can't be sure....so that needs checking otherwise no chance to install a graphics card.

Strange pricing. For £150 you can get a 13' windows 10 laptop that's equally as underpowered so I don't get where a 99 quid Base unit fits in, it still needs a monitor, speakers, Windows 10 upgrade, office etc.

Not everyone wants a laptop and most sub £150 laptops come with very low powered atom based CPU's which are usually somewhat less powerful than even these G1820 Celeron's. It's all about choice and what works for you.

The Celeron 1037u is a iittle bit less powerful than the original deal I posted, it's OK (it's based on the ivybridge core generation CPU's) and is OK but not upgradeable as I think they're soldered to the board (at least my 1037u is)
Realistically you need 4GB ram and ideally an SSD drive which makes any PC seem faster at many tasks.
The problem is that Celeron and Pentium names are stuck on totally different CPU architecture so one Celeron might be super low power consumption and fairly week performance and others (like the G1820) might be much better and really just a cut down i3.

I think we all agree that it'll need another 2GB of ram to make it more pleasant to use, gamers and those that use multitasking and heavy duty programs obviously need to look elsewhere

The i7 4790 system posted a few days ago would make a fantastic gaming machine, though you would most likely need to add a more capable PSU and an actual graphics card. Though unfortunately I don't think they got any more in(?). Most of the Zoostorm systems I have seen aren't natural gaming machines as they typically only ship with the standard processor graphics and weak PSUs but if you don't mind swapping a few components it would be very easy to improve their gaming abilities...

My father's PC updated itself to Win10 and he only has 2GB ram and it works ok for light tasks, he's not complained about it. But I would agree with you and say the memory really needs to be 4GB ram regardless. But that's about £14 from Crucial memory or less for cheapo ram on ebay

Great price. Chuck in another 2gb ram and for most stuff it'll be fine. An ssd is an absolute must nowadays, I can't go back to regular HD now as main OS drive.

Heated for a good value budget system.
Putting in a small SSD for the OS and an extra 2GB RAM would make the system a lot more pleasant to use on a daily basis and could probably still be done while keeping the total spend under £150.
I believe you can still get a free Windows 10 upgrade for using assistive technologies (like magnifier etc) so potentially a seriously cheap Windows 10 box....

Yeah my thoughts entirely, if you got one of those £30 SSD's and a stick of ram for about £15 you'd have a fairly usable PC that would boot up nice and quick and be capable of playing HD videos etc

OK I Know it's a low powered, under specced desktop but it's brand new and ready to go. For not much effort you could bung in a some more ram or SSD if required. Yes it's a Celeron but it's a Haswell based Celeron so turns in a decent performance for the price.
Still on WIndows 7 or 8? - upgrade to Win10 for free using the assistive technology upgrade - nothing dodgy about doing this, it's a way for people to upgrade who might need more time, eg those that use assitive technology features of Windows like screen maginifer, high contrast screen settings etc (all standard stuff included with Windows)

I'd get a G1610 / G1620 instead of the 1037u as it's a tiny bit more powerful and Zoostorm have both on offer, plus the G1610 offers more chance to upgrade it with an i3 or such like if you wanted to.
