Best price I've seen for the 1TB version. Not even sure it's that available elsewhere in the UK unless it's bundled with games.

Usually sells at £299 with one game.

For the 500gb console, no? This is for the 1TB console.

Admittedly, I'm not 100% sure where the value lays when there is only £30 between a 500gb console and a 1TB console given that you could essentially have 1.5TB for £157 at these prices.

500gb are all but a waste of space and 1TB is pretty much here nor there for gamers. I currently have 2.5TB storage on the One and I'm covering 78% of storage space. That said, I'm pretty sure the RRP for these is £299, so heat applied

I disagree, people get caught up in the bigger HDD sizes but I recently sold an original white (upgraded) 2TB PS4 and replaced with a black 500GB C chassis and simply downsized the number of games I have in 'rotation' - how many games can someone be playing at any one time in their lives. It's nothing more than the old mine is bigger than yours rubbish.. bigger is better.. Opinions are like bum holes, everyone has one and most of them stink.

Yeah. I was debating the 1TB - it's a great deal, but I think I'm going to go with the VERY deal. I know it's only 500GB, but with the cashback and £64 from CEX for the two games, that means the console only costs me £165. Bargain.

Just remember that you can buy a 2TB or bigger external HDD with USB 3.0 for not a huge amount more than the extra charged for the 1TB over 500GB - I only say 2TB as that was what I had lying around when I opened my new console yesterday.

A quick search on Amazon shows a 2TB Seagate at around £65, so a lot less if you're prepared to hunt around I would imagine or flubit

I got a £199 FIFA 500GB, sold on ebay for £240 and then bought the 1TB FIFA from the Co-Op 20% off day last week for £245 delivered. So any price near to that for a 1TB after last week's price frenzy is good. Have some warmth!

'Very' deal is 500GB console with Fifa 17 and Forza Horizon 3 for £279 and then you get £50 cashback to your account which makes it £229 with 12 months 0% finance if required? Used to receive a discount of between 10-20% from your first order after creating an account. Good deal IMO.

4 Oct 16 3 #44
I'm not quite sure where bum holes come into the equation, but you seem to have missed my point. I was simply stating that for an extra £7 you could have around an extra 500gb for the convenience of not having to 'rotate'.

It's not about who's got the biggest hard drive, but I own a hell of a lot of games, as I imagine a lot of gamers do. Personally I don't fancy having to download 60+gb of updates every time I fancy an hour on Dragon Age: Inquistion (for example).

But by all means, you enjoy your downsizing, I'll stick with convenience

Yeah, depends on your definition of superior. I have my hard drive sat behind the console so quicker and easier to install, and then I just unplug it when I go to my mates for a Fifa night. You can't do that now can you ! Oh, and when I upgrade to a new console I just plug the external drive into the new console and good to go. I have both consoles by the way and the XB1 is a lot more user friendly.

I think Microsoft have made a larger step-up than Sony with their next-gen console refreshes. Both camps have shrunk their boxes admirably, but the ONE S has added some additional bells & whistles and bumped up the horsepower.

As an owner of the original PS4 and XBONE I will not be jumping on the refresh wagon. I like both consoles equally, but it is good to see that MS has corrected the perceived CPU/GPU weaknesses, even if they were not really noticeable during gameplay. I still thing Sony has the best UI and Microsoft the better Gamepads, but other than this they are evenly matched.

Your not serious? Do you know how a Xbox works? There arent going to be any crazy issues or updates and if so it would be fixed by Microsoft. Besides the Xbox one S is already out so go see what people are saying about the issues.
AcornGuy2012
4 Oct 16 #60
I meant more along the lines of firmware updates, particularly ones which may interfere with playing Blu's as I don't plan on buying any games for it. Generally, I'm not an Xbox guy but seeing as how the PS Neo doesn't have a 4K Blu-ray drive I'm considering buying one. However, I've read Xbox One S has an issue concerning HDR so I just wondered if anyone could confirm.
Tequila
4 Oct 16 #61
you are not the only one who owns both.
alot of people will disagree with you and would argue internal drive is much nicer, neater and better.
to each their own.
PS4 is superior because it has the internal approach and they can add external option anytime they want with a simple software update.no such possibility with Xbox.

A Xbox One S cannot replace a standalone UHD Bluray player if you want Atmos or DTS:X sound as it cannot bitstream uncompressed audio, yes MS have said they are looking at a solution but it's been over 2 years now and still no update for the original Xbox One

mranderson1971

How can it be outdated it has just been released? Makes no sense. The next one is at least year away so hardly just around the corner.
It's an entry level UHD player so if you want all the the other features then of course spend more on a standalone UHD player. At least it actually includes one.

I know that feeling of convenience but it never paid off for me- do you really have 1-2TB of games that are actually being used regularly? Or do all the extra games justify the bigger memory and vice versa? I upgraded my PS4 HDD and found out I really didn't need to. My 2TB 'allowed' me to have a lot of games stored that I simply never played. I had maybe 20 games loaded/ stored and probably played 4. I sold the unit and most of the games and as you say downsized (for profit thanks to the recent £150 PS4 steals... deals?)
As for £7 for extra 500GB? Yes I would take that deal Gary, but there is no Fifa 17 here to sell for £35 dropping your buy cost to £165 as it did for me with the Very deal.
Like everything, it's personal preference and perspective - hence my favourite take on opinions comment - from my perspective 500GB is sufficient.

Hours to install a game is not normal, I think it's between 20-30 minutes on average. Don't let it install updates at the same time and wait until after as I would say you both have issues with your internet speed.
My internet speed is around 215mbps and downloading updates is really quick. Also do not connect via wi-fi unless you use 5ghz band. I would recommend always connecting directly to the router.

Great tip to do the install and updates separately (which i do) but still Xbox installs are slower than PS4. I did not mean to agree with a suggestion of xbox taking hours. PS4 installs have always been rarely sub 10 and mostly sub 5 minutes, some almost instant but xbox all seem to be 15 - 30 mins. So they are much longer.

What are other peoples experiences with this?

Presumably, with the new game season just getting go in full force from the 11th Oct through to mid Nov, we are going to see lots of deals for console bundles.

It would not surprise me to see the slim PS4 fall in price considerably in the coming weeks. I doubt it will be as good as the 'old' fat PS4 deal of last week but I suspect it will get close.

Lots of consoles for sale and the demand is not really there is it? I mean, many with 'fat' PS4s aren't going to go for the slim version unless they have more money than sense. Or they will opt to go for the Pro. You have a similar thing with the xbox s - for plenty of people the Xbox One will suffice until Scorpio comes out next year.

We could be entering a sweet spot for console prices this Autumn I think where the need to update now is simply not there. I think the price drop at Tesco for the xbox s was an indicator of poor pre-order demand. Should be interesting in the weeks ahea.

I bought an 500gb ssd to add to the internal 1tb using a UASP USB 3.0 interface caddy. That has decreased install and load times by upto half on some games. Google ssd and xbox one to real benchmarks. It benefits some games more than others. I don't play games off the internal drive.

7 Oct 16 #128
Any benefit using the caddy you have to say a standard USB 3 caddy with a 1TB SSD?
MysticalUndies
7 Oct 16 #129
Im not sure. Technically not, because the xbox doesn't support UASP but I don't know if it still has any benefit. On a PC that supports it, it makes a huge difference and it's a shame xbox doesn't support it. But an SSD in a standard Usb3.0 caddy will be a whole lot better than the 5400rpm hdd in the xbox. It's sooooo slow. And you can set the SSD to default drive so no fuss when installing new games.

For instance I really want the PSVR to succeed even though I have an Oculus Rift and won't be getting one. The more mainstream VR the better the games, the better the prices.
The Pro and The Xbox One S are not comparable tbh. Better to compare it to the PS4 slim.

Honeslty, I'd go for a 2tb, that way no need to have the external HDD.
