I'd say 2 years is good for the price, I was hoping they'd have a nice 3 year, but WD are definitely on it unfortunately.

Was a strange day, Linux Mint destructed after upgrading the kernel because of the Dirty Cow Patch, then my MB decided to update and hosed all the settings but didn't actually update the bios?
After manually upgrading MB I just installed Linux Arch with Cinnamon, not as pretty as Mint but hopefully will not break as much as Mint did.
Yep I did use the drives serial numbers I also spoke to someone at WD and also checked online, it appears the drives have the same warranty as the enclosure, 2 years. Not sure how I feel about it.

Unlucky on the server death - tried it with a live disk? RE the warranty - was that from checking the serial numbers of the bare 3.5" drives Yaradabbadoo? The Reds normally have a 3 year I think?

Arrived today has a 2 year warranty on the drives so thats good.
But my motherboard or NVME drive or probably Linux Mint gave up the will to live today:-)

Will do when it arrives, word of warning, I was on the phone for over 1 hour trying to get them to honour the voucher they sent me!
From what I have read the enclosure will hardware encrypt the drives so if that fails the only way to get the data back is to pay them WD a fee.
Basically if you need the drives and not the enclosure this would be worth it otherwise I would not bother.

Could anyone who picked one of these check the warranty of the two bare drives on the WD warranty checker please - https://support.wdc.com/warranty/warrantystatus.aspx?lang=en Would be very interested if these have the separate 3 year warranty outside of the enclosure.

Is it worth/possible getting this to split in a win7 machine and use to download films/tv shows to and use with a smart tv media player? Cheers.

15 Oct 16#31
They changed their website. I tried ISIC card, does not work anymore.
Even when it worked in the past, it was a hit and miss, as the discount only apply to some products. They one you want may not be discounted for ISIC.

Thanks, I think you may be right as now page is hanging when attempting to apply discount codes on multiple computers/browsers. I will try again later, prefer not to get in touch as wouldn't want them to pull the offer if it wasn't intended.

Guessing they have pulled the newsletter codes as I cant get them to apply to anything on the site. Lowest I can get is £359 via educational store but then even the £10 off code does not apply. Missed out and was exactly what I needed :disappointed:

i have been checking their stock levels for a few weeks now, and noticed their site was updated over the weekend, and is still very buggy, i managed to get another newsletter code, however it doesn't seem to work now - i'm sure they are having technical issues, i would suggest getting in touch, or trying again later on, hoping they sort it out soon

Newsletter code doesn't work for me, they have very limited contact options, phone Irvine California, no chat - strange for a tech company I guess they must get a lot of failures:-)

so true, i looked into getting a nas drive, but decided against after reading some people's horror stories, and as i have also previously lost alot of data to hard drive failure, i am now intending to back it all up - granted at a considerable cost, so i am glad i got a good deal

all drives are being taken out and put into an antec 1200, that i am using as a plex media server, i will then remove the 2tb drives I already have and put them into the enclosures, and put them up on ebay for around £80

From previous post with link:
Fantastic way to get your hands on 2 x WD 8TB Red drives cheaply.
The WD enclosure is user serviceable so they expect and allow you to remove the drive from this unit unlike the single MyBook 8TB which requires you to break the enclosure.
You can of course use this as intended as a very large encrypted 16Tb USB 3.0 drive. Or 8TB using RAID 1 (Mirrored).
On the WD Store Front Page about midway down is a box on the left that says "Sign Up for WD Specials". If you enter your email address and click "Sign Me Up" you get an email sent to you instantly with a unique 10% off code.
Despite WD making the drives they seem to be out of stock for long periods of time with this drive just coming back into stock this morning after a long period away.
Unique 10% Code emailed to you also stacks with WDSTORECPN giving a fantastic prince of £377 for 2 x 8TB Reds
Western Digital voucher codes:£10 - WDSTORECPN
Not tried it as running out of time for work, but will later... Are these reliable/good?
Opening post
34 currently in stock (maximum i could add to basket)
these will sell out, so be quick
Sign up for newsletter https://www.wdc.com (bottom of page) you will get a code emailed to you with a coupon code, or, if you have a nus isic bolt on at http://benefits.isic.org/en/wd (but it didn't work for me since they have recently upgraded their site), or, if your school is part of the program, you may be able to get it discounted at http://shop.wdc.com/store/wdus/en_UK/DisplayActivatePurchasePlanPage/marketID.1115100
also use code: WDSTORECPN for an extra £10 off (over £100 spend)
