I can't give you details of the 1.4TSI but my 1.6TDI gives me about 63MPG compared to the claimed 74.3MPG so about 85% of what's claimed. My MPG is based on filling up from an almost empty tank rather than the computer. I do try to drive as economically as possible. My commute is quite hilly and a good few bends (perhaps explains my tyres in comments above rather than my driving skills!) but I'm able to maintain decent speed (i.e. limited braking and accelerating). Long distance journeys (down M74 and M6) MPG is similar but not quite as good but then my car is carrying 4 plus a boot full.I think that the 12% is probably achievable if the roads are right and you're economical with your driving style.

I recently test drove the Octavia with this engine but with DSG box . I have to say I was impressed by the engine. I found the 1.4TSI 150PS engine to be smooth, quiet and acceleration very adequate, it was much nicer to drive than the 1.6tdi that I also tested. Though of course I have real doubts it can deliver anywhere near the claimed combined 55.4 mpg (58.9 with DSG). The salesman thought a rough guideline is -12% once loosened up but of course all depends on driving style. Anyone know the "real mpg" i.e. not what the computer says because they always give a rosy figure. I don't think there is a large enough sample on "Honest John" as yet.

You stand by my comment about my driving. That's fair enough but it's utter nonsense. I had a Nissan Almera which I managed to get similar miles on a set of front tyres to what you are claiming you can get. That kind of invalidates your claim about my driving.

I travel thousands of miles around the UK, France and Spain, and I don't hang around but I don't speed, observing all the speed limits in all three countries. I don't dawdle around corners and roundabouts and drive as safe as the road will allow in windy country lanes. I have recently changed my front tyres on my car at 37,500 miles and they still had a couple of mm's on them, I didn't let them get to the legal limit. I think that is a fairly reasonable amount of miles to get out of a pair of front tyres, Continental ECO, hence my comment on you only getting 22.5 k on your tyres and I stand by my comment. If you are in Benidorm shortly you can make an appointment with me to see my servicing history so you can see I'm telling the truth.

I am fully aware that the model we are discussing is a petrol, I was merely saying that 'dieselgate' has shown the public that VWG cars are not as miraculous as 'the bloke in the pub' had led them to believe.
As it happens, some petrol models are similarly affected, but let's not go there.
I don't know why I reached the conclusion that you were an adult - it's actually obvious that you aren't in hindsight, my apologies. Is the A3 you mentioned 'Daddy's car'?
Haha, I love the 'dead end job' comment, ouch that really stings
You obviously don't understand the earning potential of a SUCCESSFUL car sales exec (there are plenty of not so successful ones, so please don't get us confused). I have had higher profile jobs in my career as it happens (such as Aftersales Manager at two VW dealer groups...hence my 'opinions', as you like to call them) and could very easily get myself back into management, or beyond, but has it occurred to you that I might actually enjoy what I do, and still earn very good money without any headaches?
I live in a fairly large home in the most exclusive area around these parts, I have a brand new car parked outside, I have just returned from a fantastic holiday, I wear a £4,000 watch, have around £6,000 of Apple Macs around the house, and am just sitting watching my £2,000+ 65" TV, so try not to worry about me too much, I'll be okay.
p.s. and that's after a VERY expensive divorce a few years ago, and getting heavily battered by the Child Support Agency until my daughter was 22! I imagine you probably won't have problems like that, with the Xbox and all...

FTFY.
Public service? Don't let your ego get you stuck in the office before leaving, eh? I'm sure plenty of people are able to make their own minds up on these vehicles themselves. That, and it's a petrol not a diesel. Don't recall these engines having any issues with emissions.
And who said I was a grown man? I certainly don't claim to be. You can snipe at me liking games, but I have no issue with that in the slightest. You're obviously not someone who "gets it". Never mind! You tried and didn't like it, according to HUKD. Bless you for trying.
And of course, yes, my parents (and grandparents) are hugely proud of me. Because I made something for myself and didn't end up in a dead-end job selling cars for a "living".

18 Oct 161#93
I do sell Kia's, and I rate them, and would honestly buy one with my own cash - wouldn't go as far as to say I love them.
I bash VWs and Audis because they are overrated POS, and not many unsuspecting buyers haven't seen 'behind the scenes' as I have, so in my own little way I'm doing a public service. Obviously 'dieselgate' and the like have now come around, so my work isn't quite as important as it once was
Wow, you have more than one console?? Your parents must be so proud, well done you.
And no, I don't 'game', and I'm always amazed at how many grown men do. Now that's sad.
Hopefully you're not one of those who has a PS4, but have given your children a PS2 so that they will leave yours alone...I see comments alluding to that behaviour often in the FS/FT section, and think it's atrocious.

Only just read this, spot on. When I told the Mrs the cars I was considering for our next car and Skoda came out of my mouth you would have thought I spat in her face.... Obviously the hatred from the 1980's has now caused the equivalent of car racism with a component of society judging a car by its badge, probably because their parents made anyone who owned a Skoda a social pariah. I will be printing up some educational leaflets and handing them out in underprivileged poor education areas to raise awareness of car prejudices and misconceptions ;-)

It's great small capacity petrol engines are finally replacing the filthy diesels of the early 2000's. I wish there was enough investment in petrol engines 10 years ago so we didn't have to pollute our cities with all the particulates.

P.s. if you are referring to the below, you're mistaken. The 1.4 TFSI without COD, is less powerful than the 1.4 TFSI that has COD (125bhp vs 150bhp). Hence your assumption that COD makes fuel economy worse (of course it does!).
Good effort, though - can't deny you're giving it your best this time. Images below from Honest John's site. The first is the fuel economy obtained in their testing. The second is the standard performance (note how the 1.4 without COD is slower).

16 Oct 161#58
Your comment is very poor. Try understanding that there are a large number of factors that affect tyre wear. At the very least:
1. Make of tyre
2. Are tyres not maintained properly (air pressure)
3. Type of road used, it could be very hilly, very flat, motorway, urban, city, combination of all
4. Driving style, you may be happy to trundle along behind a lorry at 40mph on a 60mph road, you might overtake
5. Performance of the vehicle
6. Fundamental design of the vehicle's brakes
7. You may want to travel at the speed limit, you may be a Grandad and do 40 everywhere (incl 30 mph limits)
and many more combinations and permutations.

Agreed, could be a problem with a tyre say, but if you need new brake pads after 20K you must be driving with your left foot on the brake pedal. To be honest service is every 10K, so it wouldn't even get it inspected as you wouldn't have the 2nd service done, you'd just hand it back.

The perception is down to age and ignorance. Anyone younger than 30 or so, won't be aware of the brand's low budget/poor quality past. Of those over thirty-something, only those who don't know how much the brand has improved, still think they are poor cars.

A lease with maintenance is for the servicing. Otherwise you'd have to pay separately and I'd imagine a condition of lease would be to have services in accordance with manufacturers specification.

I think with regards to general maintenance, it has to be able to pass an MOT.
You would have to pay for servicing, unless you have maintenance included.
Insurance would not be included. You would be required to have fully comp and should seriously consider GAP.

So basically....nothing 'should' break in the course of 2 years, other than maybe a nail in tyre? And at the end of year 2 they couldn't really charge extras, eg "you didn't put new brake pads on before handed it back etc"
Would have to pay for annual service too? Presume doesnt include insurance for the 2yrs either

lease cars confuse me.
I finally understand the 1st month multiple payment thing that some have. I don't get what 'maintenance' is though.
Surely, shouldn't have to pay to do repairs on a car that isn't even yours? As in car is under warranty still being brand new, so most things should be covered anyway? Should be expected to last the period of the term (ok not including tyres in nails but everything else)

Problem and they claim they fixed it and haven't)
20k price tag Only suits a posh car
Benidorm? I haven't questioned your claim. So no need to prove anything.
Car driven Dacia Lodgy 1.5dCi with chip, the chip is to give me more grunt for over taking not for speedy driving.
Still - you must be pleased to have all that stuff your wife's divorce money paid for. You'll miss her income eventually!
Besides, according to you you're just a boy, she'll get bored eventually waiting for you to finish on your console...
Over and out.
Keep on waving!
Yep Audi is wife's. Seat and BMW mine.
And don't flatter yourself. I don't worry about you. I'll let your insecurity do the talking!
We get it. You love Kia. You sell Kia motors. Marvellous! They're not bad either. But you're fanaticism is quite sad really. I guess you must have not a lot to do in your spare time.
And well done following my previous comments - I quite like my games consoles (plural) and so do my family and friends. I'm sure you do too...so...yep, well done!
"I also noticed that most of the posts were from 2013 or early/mid 2014"
The 140bhp COD was updated to 150bhp in 2015 I believe (without extensive looking). So again, good attempt at VW bashing (as always), but anecdotal evidence from an internet thread is not conclusive.
It takes about 30 seconds to find ANY model of VW or Audi being complained about by it's disgruntled owners.
I'm sure the 2.0 TDI 184 BHP is less efficient on claims than the 150 BHP variant too. But have fun following me

Hope you can relax now.
Still nothing to say on your diatribe? No? Can't say I'm surprised.
Or the Fleetprices one I posted is £6.07 per day ..

i am sure you could hire a similar car
with included insurance, no maintenance, no washing, give back anytime
AND unlimited mileage for less
Diesel should have always been reserved for commercial vehicles.
Such a shame that these deals are ruined by the "my 10 year old Fiesta costs me £4.99 per month" brigade and having to explain leasing on every thread!
£138.52 including vat They said there is some stock around too!
Good effort, though - can't deny you're giving it your best this time. Images below from Honest John's site. The first is the fuel economy obtained in their testing. The second is the standard performance (note how the 1.4 without COD is slower).
Also, What Car? are famously 'unofficially' sponsored by VW Group - read the comments under every review on there.
Audi though, yuk!
I voted hot, great deal for someone who isn't bothered about how their car looks
1. Make of tyre
2. Are tyres not maintained properly (air pressure)
3. Type of road used, it could be very hilly, very flat, motorway, urban, city, combination of all
4. Driving style, you may be happy to trundle along behind a lorry at 40mph on a 60mph road, you might overtake
5. Performance of the vehicle
6. Fundamental design of the vehicle's brakes
7. You may want to travel at the speed limit, you may be a Grandad and do 40 everywhere (incl 30 mph limits)
and many more combinations and permutations.
Skoda based jokes are now as outdated and incorrect as Bernard Manning's routine. In time, they will go the same way as the man himself.

Badge snobbery is for idiots.
A climbing frame.
What do you call a Skoda with two exhausts?
A wheel barrow.
Why does a Skoda have a rear heated window?
To keeps your warm, when pushing it.
Anyway I have a serious question -
On a Skoda which goes faster, the engine or the sills
Leon > Octavia.
OP I think this is a terrific deal. Two years of worry free motoring in a safe, fuel efficient brand new car of decent quality for less than £4.5k is a total bargain.
If you damage it enough so that it's visible from 10 feet, it's probably worth repairing it before returning.
Cars are to get you from a to b . Everything else is just ego . Skoda could put gold plated fittings in it but it would still be considered a t*rd by the majority of the public. !

I think with regards to general maintenance, it has to be able to pass an MOT.
You would have to pay for servicing, unless you have maintenance included.
Insurance would not be included. You would be required to have fully comp and should seriously consider GAP.
Would have to pay for annual service too? Presume doesnt include insurance for the 2yrs either
Includes a mass of equipment: Alloys, Sat Nav, Touch Screen, Sports Seats, Parking Sensors etc. etc
Business & Personal
Based on 18 months & 2 Years, 10,000 miles per annum, No Maintenance Included
