Maybe there is a large variance in the manufacturing but my 2 do not burn, not even close! Hot to touch yes, but not even close to causing pain or melting plastic.

Use a laser thermometer if it gets that hot and you don't want to burn yourself, most of us seem to have them from various Amazon Lightning deals!

It's the metal part that goes into the USB socket that gets very hot as I guess conducts heat. I can guarantee you that if you pulled the one I have out after prolonged use, press it against your skin, it would leave a rectangular burn mark. I might measure the metal part with a thermometer (purely out of curiosity) if I can find one in the house.....

Yeah, doesn't happen with other USB storage devices. It is definitely a heat issue, and many others have reported it on the web.

I got 32GB version and the thing gets really hot, and had stopped working, sending it in under warranty for a rma.

That sounds a bit like poetic licence, the heat comes from the chips which are on the plastic bit you pull and push in and out not the actual USB port so the heat at the physical chip would realistically have to be hundreds of degrees C to melt the plastic at a remote location a few mm away. I agree these get hots but I'm sure silicon will stop working properly before it melts anything, though I wouldn't leave mine plugged in 24/7 I don't feel my stuff is at risk.

Thing with SanDisk is if it runs fine, they're excellent and everythings rosey. BUT once you have a problem you see how poor SanDisk actually are.
After my experience with a SanDisk 128gb SD micro, I wouldn't TOUCH a SanDisk memory product

There are reviews where people claim these have melted the plastic part in the middle of their PC's USB port and rendered it useless!

i was just thinking at the weekend I could do with another of these when the price gets back to £20 so got my third one now. I've got one of the white 128gb ones too, Samsung it is. I've noticed they do get hot but never crazy temps although I mainly use in a USB2 laptop and the desktop I mainly use I have a USB extension cable I plug into so maybe that helps with temperatures. the speeds are decent compared to flashdrives of old

I've got 2 x 128gb ones. They get ridiculously scorching hot. Other than to transfer the occasional file, I never leave them plugged in anymore. Maybe the 64gb ones run slightly less hot due to having half the NAND memory but these 128gb ones are way too hot for my liking (and normally I'm not fussed about these sort of things).

The heat is an issue. Doesn't affect reading, but when writing you'll get a burst speed of say 50mb/s for 3 seconds, then it will sustain 5mb/s for 20 seconds, and then it will plummet to 0mb/s for 20 seconds (presumably to cool down) and then back "up" to 5mb/s, and back down. The amount of time it spends sitting at 0mb/s lengthens writing time significantly.

I've got one and it does get worryingly hot, when writing in particular. As previously stated, good price, dodgy item.

Yeah, I've 2 of the 64gb. They got hot enough to notice they're hot, but not hot enough to cause pain so they can't be all that hot really. Unless people have faulty or freakily hot units then the issue of temperature on these is really overstated.

I've not had much luck with the little 32GB toasters. They get very unhappy on USB3. This is a good price but a questionable product.

Almost purchased this but has quite a high amount of 1/2 star reviews regarding overheating and breaking.

A quick search showed plenty of 128GB sticks for an extra few quid with much better reviews.
