I think you need this deal.

The size of the screen and the noticeable difference are all related.

With this screen, to notice the difference between 4k and 1080p, you need to sit at a maximum of 2 metres from the screen. If you room is bigger than this (and for a lounge being wider than 6 ft, that's quite likely) then this is too small to see any discernible difference between 4k and 1080p material.

If your sofa is <2m from where this TV will be placed - you're golden.

God dammit! I just got this delivered yesterday from JL; thank god for their price match service.

Hopefully they get back to me ASAP!

Also, it's quite a nice TV in my opinion. Turns on pretty quick and feels pretty nippy when comparing it to my old TV - although that was 10 years old must I add!

Still, it's pretty nice if you ask me, although the sound is a bit poor compared to my old TV. Must be me being used to having front facing speakers rather than from the bottom!

You can see a difference between HD and 4k at this size. I don't understand why people assert that you can't. I mean, jus the mathematics of having a higher pixel density is enough evidence to show that's wrong.

From experience there is definitely finer detail and edges on hard objects and the UI are extremely crisp at 4k. It's very good for gaming where often the text and UI elements can be small - that extra sharpness helps with legibility a deal. When you compare it to HD you realise things are softer as the ppi is lower.

That said, you won't probably be bothered by the difference until you spend some time at 4k but once you do you'll see there is a difference, albeit not one as pronounced as going from HD to SD and it's probably not going to spoil your experience. It's just incorrect to assert that there's no noticeable difference.

6 Oct 16 3 #29
If your nose touches the screen, I'm sure you can see it. Otherwise pretty pointless.

I have a 55" 4k TV and it's pretty much no different at all to 1080p. I'd be the first to admit it's pretty much a waste of money getting 4k at 55 inches or below, I've got one.
Gort1951
6 Oct 16 #30
If it's pointless, why do they make 4k tvs ?

Hughes have a 4k tv on display and the picture looks stunning.
ro53ben to Gort1951
6 Oct 16 1 #38
Because people will buy them. In real terms, you stand considerably closer to the TV in the shop than you ever would at home. I bought my 4k TV as the picture in the shop looked amazing, even stood right next to it. Was surprised to get it home and find that the 1080p looked just as good. I'm seeing details in 1080p which I never knew existed or thought were even possible at that resolution. My old 1080p was only 46" and clearly not big enough to see the difference over 720p.

From a normal sofa distance, 1080p and 4k look about the same on my 55 inch, on a 50 inch there really isn't going to be any difference. If you are replacing an old small 1080p TV, this will no doubt look better - but so would a new 1080p panel.

ro53ben

And you really need 10-bit to get the full benefit of HDR.

Incidentally, proper HDR (10-bit) is considerably more worthwhile than 4k at this size.
mrbenbod
6 Oct 16 1 #41
I can remember people saying the same thing about HD TV's, pointless unless it's over 40".
Yet the difference was noticeable on a 32" screen.
tomwatts
6 Oct 16 #42
Absolute rubbish. 720p to 1080p is visible although I must say that I can't see the pixels from my viewing distance with 1080p and therefore there isn't any point to me upgrading. This was going from a 42" 768p to a 48" 1080p which according to you should exacerbate the effect but it just didn't!
ro53ben
6 Oct 16 3 #43
720p to 1080p is only visible if you're close enough, you just don't have to be as close as you do to see the 4k benefit.

If you're a 30 year old living in your mum & dad's box room with the TV on your bedside table next to your Xbox, a small 4k TV may be of use. For people with a normal living room, you need a big panel to see anything.

I'm kind of disappointed now. I've been checking, reading reviews and comparing TVs for the last two days.
Most TVs I'm seeing are 4k so I was thinking of getting 4k one instead of 1080p (few months later they no longer will be available) and get stuck for years (as long as it lasts)
I've not had TV for four years. Since buying PS4 for DS I've finally decided to buy a TV.

Thanks for replying. Needed some advices and tips regarding buying a new TV.

I love that graph as it proves both our points expertly. For me, when I game I sit bout 2m away from a 48" screen, therefore worth it. For watching TV I sit around 4m away from a 60" and again, 1080p is worth it. Everyone has different setups and for some it won't be noticeable, however, at typical viewing distances, 1080p makes sense in the 50"+ category.

Wow the anti 4k is actually quite funny, not all TVs are exclusively for watching TV.... Gaming and PC use will increasingly take advantage of 4k, photos are already at insanely high resolutions and look awesome on a 4k compared to anything else..

But yeah in a massive room 10ft away on a TV programme you'll be hard pushed to spot the difference between this and 1080

Bought this today using the Argos TVS10 code so thanks for that, the T.V is HUGE! And I upgraded from a 42" OLED, also went through Quidco so saved another fiver making this T V only £445 which for the spec is amazing, It's a must buy if you're in the market for a new T.V
Huawei_or_my_way

As the Humax does not record 4k you will not see a hugh diference.
The 1080 output of the humax will be upscaled but you cannot create detail that is not there in the original broadcast.
I would say only worth it if you don't mind the look of the upscaled picture and/or if you intend to get 4k from other sources.

From someone who is a total layman as far as HKUD TV enthusiasts go, yes it definitely does. It is a genuine difference in quality, looks so much more like real life. More of a difference than 720p, 1080p, 4K. More of a difference than LCD to LED/LCD. Etc.

malachi
10 Oct 16 #148

No free extended warranty like Richer Sounds or John Lewis, though of course there is no such thing as "free". They will both retail at an extra £100 (approx) for 5 or 6 year guarantees included, though I don't know much about the detail. I bought a TV from ao recently and the buying and delivery service was excellent, however they do try and hard-sell you the additional warranty which for my TV was a "bargain" £6 a month, or £350 over 5 years. At that rate the additional £100 from RS or JL sounds a genuine bargain. When I asked "Isn't the 2 year manufacturer's warranty good enough?" I was told "Modern energy efficient TVs aren't built to last, they're built to look good". So much for having confidence in the product you are selling! Anyway, I passed on their offer of the additional warranty, we'll see how long my TV lasts...

I bought it from John Lewis, had it delivered yesterday. Have to say, I'm amazed by the picture quality (and the sound, actually - far superior sound to my previous LG). I sat there gawping at the quality of the image, I wasn't expecting such a big leap. My partner arrived home and was instantly impressed, too, and he doesn't generally worry about these things. Not only that, there's a lovely "high end" feel to the set generally, simple menus, connected immediately to wifi, etc. Recommended.

I would have gone for this had it been different size. I am looking for a 32"smart TV with DVD player and as I know nothing about technology, wondered if anyone of the 'experts' on hotukdeals could give me a hands up as to what is a half decent purchase please. Thanks

Deals back on at 449 with tv10 code been put off myself by reviews on avforums about really bad motion blur when playing ps4 xbox games like fps or fifa due to the 50hz

that will be a deal breaker for me too, as that's what it was going to be bought for. I wonder if the hisense is any better in that regard then
