HDR compatible 4K UHD resolution and class-leading smart functionality come together to make the Samsung UE40KU6000 a cutting-edge tech bargain.

And before anyone mentions... I know this is not an OLED panel but it's less than a quarter of the price of one of those. Should be a good TV for alot of people.

Is a long guarantee worth it? Yes, I believe so. I had an LG screen fail on me (a few rows of pixels were dodgy) and John Lewis replaced it with no fuss whatsoever. It was just over 2 years old. The other reason is that the guarantee is transferable so it's a useful selling point if you decide to sell after a year or so - it still has 2-3 years guarantee. Hope that's helpful. PS ... and of course if you DO keep it for 5 or 6 years - you're covered!

The KU6000 does have a 10bit panel but it doesn't have a wide colour gamut nor does it get bright enough for HDR like the KS7000 and above do.

The review below is for the US version which is the same but the model number is slightly different.

This is the first im hearing of this. They usually go the extra mile for me. I went to croydon brand to reserve an open box q7000 speakers for half price. When i went to buy it it has been sold. Went back to richer sounds croydon again. They apologised and ordered in a brand new one for same price to their store even though they dont transfer discontinued and sale item due to price. I was very happy.

i think you should buy 50inch 55inch or 60inch 4ktv there loads out there but there seems to be a fire sale of 40inch 4ktvs i.e. cheaper than some hdtvs of same size so 4k at 40inchs is pointless thats why there cheap

Can someone tell me why all 4k display videos in shops are really, really slow?
I saw one that was billed as MotoGP,and thought, here we go a proper test , but it was in super slow motion!
I can't help but think all the content is handpicked to conceal the flaws.
Is it true, resolution drops as the content speeds up? Blurring is the norm on fast sequences?

As for RicherSounds, they are worth the watching that lot!!

They had a bargain TV, instore only, drove the 23 miles to Edinburgh ordered the tv only to be charged £30 delivery as they didn't have one in stock.
So because they didn't have one in stock I get to pay £30 extra!
When I gave them a fair review of their practices on Google they had the review removed, bunch of chancers!
Hope to hear from them soon!

I tried to get JL to price match the richer sounds price on Sunday, but they wouldn't as richer sounds didn't have stock in their local branch at the time (Though they were expecting more on Thursday). I very much doubt that they will match Argos' price with the promo code applied. JL do not have the high customer service that they used to, in my opinion.

The TV industry is absolute cut throat, so I can imagine that they possibly lose money on this TV..hence why they won't have couriers throwing them about and damaging them.

Customer Service is paramount to us so it’s obviously concerning to read of any occasion where we have a dissatisfied customer. Indeed, we certainly should have refunded your delivery charge when you chose to cancel the order.

Please be assured we do take such complaints seriously and I will investigate with the store manager and team to ensure the steps are put in place preventing this reoccurring in the future.

I understand that the order has now been refunded in full and that our Customer Service team have been in touch to resolve the matter.

Many Thanks

OLED is a transition technology with problems, QLED should replace it, although it's not quite as good currently in colour representation. Nothing beats laser though, but I've not seen any evidence of any company investing in 4K/8K laser, maybe Mitsubishi will get back in to it.

Avoid Richer Sounds, just placed the order and didn't realise there was £14.99 delivery charge for the TV which increases the cost compared to Argos price (also I had an additional £10 voucher off that I could use together with the promo code TV10). I then called same day today to cancel however only to be informed it was too late to cancel and if I did I would lose my delivery charge as it was a 24 hour delivery service and it was too late. I then received an email later this evening to inform me that my delivery will be on Friday!! I have cancelled the delivery directly with the delivery company and have made a formal complaint to London Bridge branch. Not sure if all branches are like this however avoid the London Bridge branch, bunch of crooks!

I bought one of these last month, and can honestly say that I'm well impressed with the prcessing speed and colours. I played a DVD of Finding Nemo on my 58" 4K Panasonic TV (not HDR) and can honestly say I was unabel to watch it. The Samsung blew the Panasonic out of the water, colurs were amazing and apartfrom the occasional judder the difference was massive in terms of quality -

I bought this yesterday and I'm pretty pleased with it so far. Weirdly, putting it in 'game mode' with the Xbox One lead to some intermittent glitches and flashes on the screen. In standard mode, no such issue.
I haven't done any other tweaking in the settings as the image seams great with the out-of-the-box settings.
The quality of the sound is a pleasant surprise for me too, in comparison to other flat screens I've had over the past 5 years or so.

18 Oct 16 #129
Forget the jargon try to ascertain if the TV has a 8 or 10 bit panel obviousley it's the 10 bit you want it's been said before there is no significant gain to be had with HDR on a 8 bit panel.

There are slight patches if I'm honest, but I'm only really seeing them when the screen is white, the settings app in windows 10 being the main culprit.

The trade off in quality easily surpasses any shortcomings in terms of tech for me, disabling the auto motion corrected the FIFA issue I had too, so it's almost been the perfect upgrade.

Just can't seem to shift my old one now Hahahaha

Just had mine delivered, using it for XB1, ps4 and PC, sound quality is really good despite some conflicting reports, seems great for gaming, little motion judder with fifa, but that's about all i've noticed so far, 4k is stunning for the price, i've a 55 inch sony at the other end of the living room that i paid more than twice the price for, and it's arguably better.

I dont think this is true anymore. Panasonic plasma been excellent and lcd was bad for a while, but in last 2 years there are some great LCD panels. You can pick up some of the 2014 top lcds like pana ax902 or samsung js9000 series for similiar money like last panasonic plasmas VT 65 series selling on ebay.

I had VT50, then Samsung JU7000 and now to panasonic AX902 and would never go back to plasma. Direct lit LCD panel produces excellent black levels and picture seems to me same if not better. And dont have to care about burni in problems every time kids leave xbox on or mrs watching same channel for whole day. Plus people still seems to have some weird following for this plasmas so second hand prices are still fairly high for 3 +years old tvs.
And Oleds are down in price - you can pick up new LG oled for around £1000. Yes it is not 4K or HDR but not many people will feed relevant signal for a while. I am not too impressed by 4K at the moment. Demos for 4K are great with all the slow panning details shots, once you watch movie or sports it is not that great. Well at least for me. I would trade great 1080p Tv for poor 4K anytime if budget wont stretch.

Pretty stupid that it doesn't have a headphone jack! I'm not looking to buy a TV atm as recently picked up the Hisense 43M3000, of which I use the headphone jack all of the time on, it's actually pretty smart giving the option of sound just through the jack or through both the jack and main speakers. Not having a jack is a deal breaker if I was looking into buying this, otherwise it seems like a solid deal.

I also feel like too much emphasis can sometimes be put on Black Friday and Xmas sales for stuff like TVs; the big companies tend to release new lines of TVs yearly. The good TVs eventually sell out towards the end of the year, making way for the new ones next year. The TVs on offer during Black Friday and Xmas sales quite often are the ones which haven't sold very well, with retailers slashing prices to get rid of their final stock. There are exceptions to this and occasionally a great TV is really cheap during Black Friday but it's not as common as you may think.

Also I feel like 4k TVs won't just go down in price at the rate tech has done in recent history, the Brexit vote could force tech to be a bit more expensive next year - at least in the first half of the year - things may level out a bit more after then.

Guardian article speculating about price rises next year

Is it advantageous to buy a smart TV with built in Wifi? I don't really understand all the technical stuff, but just wonder if you are more likely to get a better signal if it is built in rather than relying on the router upstairs. Any advice greatly appreciated.

As I said above
If you want the HDR effects then it's a very expensive TV required.

If you want a 4K experience without paying for an expensive tv then get this.

HDR does make it look better, but still not proven on the PS4 Pro.

Several review sites have already reported that HDR is nicer but hardly impacts the experience for the Xbox s.

On the PS4 pro many sites have reported it looks good on non HDR sets.

Show me a tv that will show the pro at its fullest and costs the same or similar money?

I am like you never had a tv go on me in over the same period, however this can be more due to luck, so many new gadgets won't last that long and a proper warran for a few quid more will be worth it in the long run. You don't want to get to two years from now and have a tv's that's worthless or have to fight a retailer to replace under legislation for the sake of a few quid.

I urge you all to go and stand next to an OLED TV and compare the picture, particularly the detail-less blacks, to an LED or SUHD at a similar price.

Don't get me wrong, space scenes on Sci-Fi movies look amazing, but as soon as it cuts to a face and everybody looks like they've got the worst case of rosacea... it gets old quickly.

That and only 3/10 OLEDs will leave the factory, the rest break down because of the ridiculously complicated way that they're manufactured. Also, another tidbit, you have to get them re-tuned every two or three years which can cost around £1500.

This isnt a good pick if your planning on getting a ps pro as sony have stated you need HDR10 to play its games in their intended form and this set doesnt have that
Also future ps pro games will be intended to be played in HDR and this set cannot produce HDR it will downscale the signal to SDR
So you want see much of a difference on a set this small that downscales HDR to SDR

depends how fast your hard drive is. USB 2 itself is plenty fast enough in theory

buying any TV without seeing it in action and based on specs is just foolish.
there could be two sets with identical "specs" and worlds of difference in picture quality.
always go and see the tv's picture quality and compare it with others in addition to reading few reviews and considering specs.

end of story.

"Cold it's not OLED" or "Cold it's not full HDR" are not really helpful comments - nothing anywhere near this price range / size does! It's a bit like voting down a £2k Ford Fiesta because it isn't a Ferrari.

The 6000 series Samsungs are basic but quality 4K TVs, well reviewed, and a reasonable price. You need to go up to the 7000 or 8000 series to get 'proper' HDR and what they call SUHD vs the mere UHD on this series. There is also the argument that you don't actually need 4K or better on a TV this small, as you can't really tell unless your viewing position is about 8 inches from the screen - but that's another argument!
Having seen these TVs while researching(I'm about to purchase a 55" version of the 7000 series) I was impressed with the quality - quite a big leap over the previous years models, none (or very little to imperceptible) of the motion blur and whitewashing. Still quite a jump up to OLED, but that's a jump in cost too.
I'd say this is a good deal.

Got this as a bedroom telly, whacked it on the wall and it's adequate for the price. Like others, got the cheaper deal from Argoose. Not bothered about a 5 or 6 year warranty - never keep a tv more than 2 years and never had one break ever.
sunama
14 Oct 16 #36
I have a plasma TV. The problem with LCD is the poor motion and poor blacks in comparison.
Those are the 2 things which make me feel that a TV like this will be a downgrade.
Both issues listed above should be resolved by OLED.

The problem is that OLED TVs are taking a long time to come down in price.

At present, a 2nd hand Panasonic plasma would be the best bet, if looking for the absolute highest image quality, without spending £2k+. It's very disappointing that the best TVs are no longer manufactured - Panasonic missed a trick here. They could've kept the factories open and milked the market by increasing the prices.

Personally, I'd pay 20 quid extra for Richer's sterling 6 year guarantee vs the standard one year offered by Argos. Sure someone will start talking about the SOGA etc but for 20 quid I'll avoid that hassle.

Review:

Samsung's TV range for 2016 is on top form, and even at this entry point, it's managed to produce a UHD screen with excellent dynamic range and HDR compatibility, which is really very impressive. This is backed up by a superb Smart TV system and all-round capability, plus a very nice design.

The only issues we identified were the slow motion response and the tight viewing angles. To improve on these, you'll need to move higher up the Series 6 range and spend a bit more money.

Priced at just over £500 at launch, we expect to see retailers aggressively undercutting each other as Christmas 2016 draws near, and the price of the 40-inch KU6000 could fall to £400, which would potentially make this a 5-star product as far as we're concerned.

http://www.s21.com/samsung-ue40ku6000.htm

-----------------------------------
Seems OK for the money - about the right price. But steer clear if you're in to sport/action or sit off-angle. I still don't see why anybody would purchase something like this ahead of Christmas/Black Friday/Sales? 4K is a battleground right now, be patient IMO.
