Nice find - expect people will be splitting their shopping/petrol spend into £10 amounts to maximise the promo

Queues will be longer that weekend - just a matter of picking the right one

Just read all the comments from other members, a good haul there guys. I started first day with a 500, followed by two 2000, then last one of the day 1000. Yesterday and up to tonight I got a further 3x2000, 1x1000, and 1x500. Grand total of 13000 points, plus the 8000 I already had through various Homebase deals. These were all on fuel purchases as off on long trip tomorrow. It's actually made Christmas this year for me as don't have any spare money each month, can't believe my good fortune. Will look out for the double up now

Ok. So last year I filled car up £10 at a time. Spent £70, got £54 of points, which i doubled to £108 in Novembers double up. Got clothes for kids for Xmas.

Arrived last night at petrol station.
Really quiet. 8 pumps, just one other car there. Parked at far side. Put £10 in. Went in to pay, was really nice ' hi, would it be ok if I filled my car up in £10 increments, the bonus nectar points promotion is so exciting?!'
S/a - no, we're not allowed to let you.
Me- oh no, I did really well last year, it was great.
S/a- no, it's not allowed, and it was me who served you last year, and I wasn't happy doing it ( ffs, she works at SAINSBURYS, and she remembers ONE CUSTOMER from a ******* YEAR AGO)
Me- oh, would it be ok if I just did it 5 times?
S/a- no
Me-4? 3?
S/a- shakes head with a sour face) no, it's one per visit, per customer. ( making own ****** rules up)
Me- how would it be if I drove round the block and came back each time? Would that be ok? ( no sense of irony btw, just a humble smile)
S/A- the thing is, they can't let everyone do it- can you imagine the q of cars if every driver was doing this? £10 at a time? The forecourt?
Me- oh, I understand perfectly, that's the reason I came when it was quiet ( I WAS THE ONLY CUSTOMER AT THAT MINUTE) AS I didn't want to be any trouble.
HW- hang on, I'll ring up
( could hear her on phone ' I remember her from last year.... What? I can't stop her? You're joking?! )
Me-( benign smile ) thanks so much.
She was surly and horrid to me each time!
I actually thought car was full once as pump was clicking( new car) , so got in and started it. Then saw only half full. Did explain to her that was reason I'd got in and got out again.
HW- yeah, that's because you've run your car down to completely empty, it's vapour
Me- oh, I haven't. There was 61 miles on it when I got here
Making assumptions!

I paid 7 separate times. Did not walk to counter til I had everything lined up- c card, nectar, points slip from previous transaction. Was dead polite and smiley. ONLY ONE OTHER CUSTOMER that I saw even HAD a nectar card. All the others said ' no' or 'not got it with me'
So- why does she even care???

Not so great. Last time this was on I was told it was not everyone who wins. Only if you are a winner will you get 200 points. See what happens but why would they give away £1 in points to everyone?

See what actually happens here.

I split a load of shopping into 7 x £10 at the trolley self checkout last time and got lucky with about £30 of points won back. Worthwhile if you are shopping there anyway.

My only note of caution would be that occasionally Nectar offers go wrong and there is no come back. E.g. If the voucher printer malfunctions there are no replacements, and occasionally points are just removed some time later and on enquiry they say they were "awarded in error" and of course you have no evidence to argue against this.

I had previously shopped at Leo's which then became Sainsbury's on the same site I had a Nectar card which had nearly £30 to spend At the till I gave my nectar card as part payment for goods and was told very curtly by the till operator that it could only be used if I had shopped at the store within 2 months .I retuned the goods to the shelves and not shopped there since.
Nujol to Myfanwy13
8 Oct 16 #31
It's a security measure. You can't redeem points unless you've shopped recently at the store. Managers can override after seeing ID / verifying account. So a stolen card couldn't be sent across the country and used.

I was working at a Sainsbury's the last time this happened.. A lot of customers split there shopping into £10 batches. I remember giving out a few 5000 point coupons too!

Also to add, you're supposed to scan the bonus points on the next time you shop, but our store were ok with just swiping it on for the customer after the transaction had completed so it might be worth asking the assistant to do this if you don't shop regularly.

Maybe I was unlucky. This was last year? It was also from a larger store I use all the time. Maybe they have changed how it operates now. Certainly not a local store.

I will try it again this time and let you all know what happens.

Also avoid the self service tills. The older units didn't issue vouchers at all at a number of stores last time, and there is also more of a chance the self service tills will run out of paper without staff immediately replacing the roll, so it's best to avoid them completely to avoid the risk.

Word of warning on the petrol stations.

'Pay at Pump petrol stations and the following petrol stations are excluded from the promotion: Aberdeen (Garthdee Road), Archer Road, Balham Nightingale Lane Local, Balsall Common Local, Bath, Biddulph, Bishops Waltham, Blackpool, Braintree, Bridgemead, Bristol Nags Head Hill Local, Burpham, Cameron Toll (Edinburgh), Charlton Riverside (Greenwich), Chertsey, Cobham, Colne, Craigavon, Cramlington, Currie Lanark Road West Local, Dartmouth, Dorridge, Droitwich Worcester Road Local, Dronfield, Dungannon, East Filton, East Kilbride, Edenthorpe (Thorne Road), Eltham, Ely, Forestside, Fosse Park, Glasgow Woodlands Local, Glen Road, Haverhill, Hazel Grove, Heaton, Newcastle, Kimberley, Livingston, Horley Bonehurst Road Local, Keighley, Hempstead Valley, Isle of Wight, London Colney, Lower Richmond Road Local, Marshalswick Local, Meadowhall North, Meadowhall South, Morecambe, Northfield, Perton, Queens Road, Rawdon Apperley Lane Local, Redditch, Shorehead, Stratton, Taunton, Telford, Wakefield Ings Road, Wantage, Wednesfield, West Houghton, Whitehouse Farm, Worksop.'

Is that most of them??? So guessing petrol is a no go here for most. Certainly for me.

Also spending £10 when you know someting is much cheaper elsewhere seems pointless. Of course if you are saving points for double up events that is another matter. E.g you don't pay £2 for 14 pack of Hulahoops that might be £1 in poundland. Tesco sell some breads 15% cheaper than Sainsburys. You have to be savvy.

Don't forget they are dishing out half the points they used to for a standard transaction. Points for reusing bags are also gone.

All of this assumes you only win the minimum prize. If you get 5k points then great! Worth the risk.
Canary0500
10 Oct 16 #55
Why on earth are so many petrol stations excluded? Either include fuel in the promotion or don't.
lasuil
11 Oct 16 #56
Sorry if this is a silly question. It says you get the voucher after you spend £10, to scan in your next shop. So could I spend £10, get a voucher, spend £10 scan first voucher, get second voucher, then scan 2nd voucher when buying something cheap like 50p? Will that still qualify with 2 x chances?
Lunamoonhare to lasuil
11 Oct 16 #57
This is exactly what i am planning to do although i have a big shop to do so will probably be at the checkouts for half the day :stuck_out_tongue: Yes, you'd still get your 2 vouchers.

FYI My Dad and I did this last time. I was fine in London, I was able to hand over a wad of vouchers to the cashier and they put them through. Anyway, first lot produced another 2000 bonus + 8pp/l fuel voucher, then a 500, then another 2000 and finally a 1000! Yay - 7500 bonus points (plus extra 300 from a coupon they'd sent to me by post). . And, the lady behind me got 5000 bonus points too, so we were all happy!

Thanks for posting the offer, OP!

I went yesterday and got a £10, £5 & 2x £2.50.
Went to the customer service desk and asked if they could be put onto my nectar card (like they did last time round now issue) and she said I had to do it on my next shop.
Is this correct ? As there's no terms & conditions stating so.

I know often when you try and scan coupons at the self service till they don't take them, then you have to go to customer service desk.

Went again today. Thought I'd try my luck asking another member of staff, no issue. Put the vouchers through and polite small talk about them too.

In my store this morning they would only allow one voucher to be added per transaction, and nothing over 1000 points at the till. They were advising customers to go to customer services to add any extra vouchers, which I did and they added them on no problem at all .
Overall spent about £150 yesterday and today ( petrol & shopping) and gained £34 worth of points , really happy with that, will wait for the Tu clothing offer in the couple of weeks and then spend them. far better than the dead in the water Tesco Clubcard offers, thou I'll still take advantage of those as well if they ever have another double up offer.

Bit annoyed. One of my vouchers they did not scan on. I suspect the member of staff took it. 2000 points. I couldn't find the receipt afterwards when I got home. Maybe he ran his own card? Or maybe he did it so it looked like he had scanned my card. Hmmm.

I did make the mistake on my 4th shop of using a till that had no machine for vouchers. They refunded me and put it through another till and got a 2k points voucher. Staff member denied that every £10 shop was mean't to be a winner. So I would of had 5k of points over £40. Ended up with 3k of points.

So £15 off £40. Happy with that but it should of been £25 off £40.

I wonder if there was a bug somewhere and they forgot to give out the 200 point vouchers?? I have not heard anyone on here get a 200 point voucher. Strange to get 2 £10 vouchers that paid for the shops.

It's a nice gimic for Sainsburys but I can't see hhow they make money from giving away 2000 points on £10 petrol spends. I think they must of just set aside a certain amount of money for the promo. Many customers would of spent a lot more.

As for the petrol and £10 fills. Just do it and don't tell them. My local garage was on the exclusion list.

Wow you sound like me. Some of the assistants are such jealous sods. I can't think of any other reason for them to stick their nose in.

Marks and Spencer are quite bad for it when I stock up on their tasty reduced bakery items. They huff and puff when I put them through the till. Ohhh, I'll bet you're so tempted to say, with a smile, 'are you just learning, dearie?, don't worry, you'll soon speed up when you've been here a while, I'm absolutely fine with waiting, don't you worry' . You're right, young7, they're jealous. It's horrid, being treated like some second class citizen/ charity case, when all I'm doing is taking advantage of a perfectly valid offer. Not to mention the other customers who filled up their cars and didn't have nectar with them. God, she'll be prob smarting about it for another full year now. Might go somewhere else if it's on again

15 Oct 16 1 #152
Absolutely not, I worked in retail for years, nah, it was just an 'in your face' moment. I was there around 40 mins, in total, and she was completely combative towards me in her attitude. So surly, and so angry she couldn't even bring herself to look at me. I stayed calm and polite, but did wonder why I should have to be subjected to that- I was only taking advantage of a valid offer, after all. I'm just a customer. I did leave there feeling humiliated and upset, and felt drained with the effort of being nice in the face of such aggression. I just don't get their truculent attitude. I was really polite, and said it at first as otherwise it would look odd. My car wasn't empty, but I still filled up with £10 7 times, which is enough to look a bit odd, and how she was, she would only have raised it anyway. I mentioned in the same vein as when I'll mention pre-transaction that I have a few coupons at the supermarket, that's all. And I think you have to rely on them activating the pump anyway? No, her actions upset me, and made me feel small, and I was only polite. She doesn't know my financial position. My car is provided for me, but I don't have much to live on, dunno if she'd made judgement thinking that I shouldn't have the offer per se, or just in her opinion of whether i was entitled or in need.
Brown_Rolf
15 Oct 16 1 #154
Well done to you for standing your ground and insisting that she didn't impose her own dreamed-up terms.

I've lost count of the number of supermarket dragons I've had problems with during perfectly legitimate couponing and glitching sessions (although more commonly at Tesco and ASDA in my own experience). It's a strange phenomenon which I can't fully explain, but it seems to be a combination of jealousy, bitterness and perhaps a desire for some feeling of power in their lives. In some of the more extreme examples, particular individuals have been downright aggressive and offensive towards me.

Like you say, the fact she actually remembered serving you from a whole year ago shows how small minded she is. She's probably been telling her friends and family that story about your previous visit for the last 12 months.

Some of the more seasoned couponers/glitchers on here will also be familiar with the "dragon huddle" phenomenon - that's when 3 or 4 dragons suddenly appear out of nowhere, gather themselves into a huddle and start whispering about you. It can get rather intimidating, with their body language suggesting they've just busted a major fraud in mid-operation.

I was saying on another thread recently, there's always a disconnect in these large companies between the marketing departments who dream up these promotions and the people working at the point of sale. The latter often do great damage to the intended spirit of the promotion, and undermine the large amounts of money invested in media advertising.

15 Oct 16 1 #155
I never ever feel embarrassed for getting these deals like they want me to. I actually feel elated to have annoyed them so much

The worst thing is when they make up their own rules unbeknown to them I've already looked over the terms and conditions of the offer. In sainsbury the other day the lad who served me looked offended that I spent £25 and redeemed swipe and win twice.

I think the self scan supervisors are under instruction to dispose of vouchers that are hanging out of the voucher printer before the next customer comes along, because Sainsbury's only want each voucher to go to its intended recipient.

But some of the staff are far too hasty and wrongly assume that your own voucher was printed for the previous customer, or that you don't want your own voucher. I once had the same thing happen - quick as a flash she snatched my voucher from the printer, ripped it in half and put it in the bin! When I told her she did apologise and asked a colleague to sellotape it back together for me. I was still able to use it as the barcode section wasn't ripped.

Went in today spent £12 at the self-checkout and didn't get a coupon. Just spoke to someone on live chat on Sainsburys website, who initially told me 'sorry the item you bought is excluded', (I've checked and its defintley not) when I asked him to point out where in the t&c's it says its excluded he told me to go back to the store if I believed I should have got a coupon. He was just being awkward, asked him if he could add some points for me to save me a trip to the store and he said no.

Did lots of £10 shops through self service tills. Even bought a £10 Xmas pud just to win some points. Various wins between 500 and 2000. Note that self serve tills will only allow you to scan up to 1000 point wins, just went to customer services and got them to scan my 2000 points ones, they should scan them without need for separate purchase. Noticed another comment on here that no one seems to have received a 200 point win. Off to sainsburys again today in search of a 5000! Happy shopping.

Has anyone checked their nectar points balance today ?? My points were all showing on the receipts yesterday but the balance hasn't updated yet (always updates overnight). Praying it's just a bit slow with all the points that need to go on

You mean you applied all the coupons to the shopping and yet points aren't showing up? It's usually instant if you have done that - maybe give it a day else chat/call with CS.

My points went through overnight. Still waiting for 2000 points that were done later yesterday, but otherwise all good, might take up to 48hrs I think.

I applied all the coupons yesterday - did 11 separate shops and gave a coupon over each time & the balance was always updated on the receipt (final receipt shows all the points on there) it's just the nectar app balance hasn't updated.
I wondered if it was a bit slow as so many points to add ! Did a live chat with Nectar but they just said it would take 24 hours (which is up) so they told me to contact Sainsbury's ! Just wondered if other people's nectar app was showing the correct balance ??

Mine are not showing on the app and when went instore today the balance was back to what it was Friday night. Will watch tomorrow and see what happens then. Added over 7000 points yesterday so don't want to miss them. Have kept all receipts and showing increasing balance on each of them.

Thanks everyone for your replies/advice. Spoke to Sainsbury's who were a bit more helpful than nectar  They said due to the promotion points will probably take longer to appear on the nectar balance but if there not showing after 28 days then they will investigate. Have got all receipts which show points have been added & gonna get fuel so will see what the receipt says

For info, with the Last Swipe and Win my points showed straight away and then two days later weren't showing atall. I queried this in store and they stated that Nectar validate points and that they will appear again in a day or so which did happen. May save people from worrying.

This is getting silly. Firstly yes 1 of my 2000 points from Friday was delayed. So I got 5000 points on £40 spend. £25 in points for £40 spend.

Just been back to Sainsburys today. Spent £10 and got 1000 points. I then thought I would buy a dvd. for £10. Got another 2k point. DVD paid for itself in points.

Overall 8000 points on £60 spend. £40 in points. 3x2000 1x1000 and 2x500. Are not the 2000k points meant to be harder to get? I think Sainsburys have messed up here as I have not had a single 200 point win. I am tempted to drive down to a larger store and buy more. Always use different tills. Self service are fine.

At the moment I am averaging 66% in points. The kind lady at the till ran through all my 2k vouchers through the main till. and gave me a receipt. Job done!!

16 Oct 16 #204
Yes this should be way hotter than it is. Maybe we have been lucky on point tallies. Most probably ignored the offer.

Started weekend on 3.5k now have over 11.7k in points. All forgiven for the free points on the bags.

I think next year they may set it at £20.

For petrol stations the exclusions are probably due to fact some sites don't have the right machines to issue vouchers.

Shopping has suddenly become fun!!!

Don't forget though, for example, I spoke to someone at the next pump this morning when I was squeezing another £10 in my car ( diff location from Friday, lol), I made a joke about how many tenners I'd put in this weekend- they didn't know anything about it, or care tbh. Most people don't. On here, Hukd, yes, but generally, no. And also, come to think of it, wasn't this meant to compensate for the fact of Sainsbury's halving the value of Nectar points a while back? Yeah, so it was, I'd forgotten about that!

I looked at a previous Swipe to Win promotion T&C's (Feb 2016) and the distribution of 500, 1,000 and 2,000 Point wins is much higher this time.

Feb 2016
82,000 prizes of 5,000 Nectar points, 329,000 prizes of 2,000 Nectar points, 400,000 prizes of 1,000 Nectar points, over 800,000 of prizes of 500 Nectar points and over 1.6m prizes of 200 Nectar points

Oct 2016
Every customer will receive a minimum of 200 points. Available prizes are: 47,000 prizes of 5000 Nectar points, 862,000 prizes of 2000 Nectar points, 766,000 prizes of 1000 Nectar points, 1.7 million prizes of 500 Nectar points and are allocated at random. Each prize is inclusive of 200 gift points.

Based on this, 500 is really the default prize and you would be unlucky to win only the 200 Gift Points.

It depends who is on customer service, if you look closely at the receipt when they give a voucher it logs on the receipt, and gives you a penny off.

A coupe of months ago I took something back, and before giving a refund they asked me what the voucher was and this particular assistant refused the refund without production of the coupon.

But personally I think if you wait a week or two they will have forgotten about this offer

Added £34 of bonus points yesterday which showed on my receipt balance, just been back to Sainsbury's this morning and they have disappeared. Not sure what going on maybe reconciliation of points over the weekend and they'll appear again tomorrow, or maybe because I used a different store today but my points normally show instantly at the end of my receipt.
Has anyone else had this happen..

4 more shops this morning. Got 2x 500 and 2 x 1000.

I don't think the local ones have the voucher machines.

'Centrals and Locals, Sainsbury’s Cafes, Pay at Pump petrol stations and the following petrol stations are excluded from the promotion:'

Fab deal, done several small shops and petrol fills and have not received less than 500 points each time! Moreso - I've also had a couple of '200 points with you next £10 shop' vouchers at the same time! Plus - I loaded onto my card the 'collect bonus points on your next 4 shops' offer on the app, along with the '100 bonus points on your next shop' offer! So in total - well I haven't added them all up yet... but probably approaching 10000 points total??
Now to think how to use the points as I've had a nectar card for ages but never really use or spend the points on it..

Actually had the time of my life in sainsbury today. Filled up £10 won 1000 points. Went in to shop bought £10 cardigan for daughter won 2000 points. Did 3 x £10 shops won 2 x 2000 1 x 500.

Went to get the points put on my card from all receipts and got greeted by the most spiteful customer service lady. Looked at me with contempt, scornfully said to her colleague 'I can't put them through when he hasn't paid for anything ' the senior colleague told her she could. She then said I will do one for you and you have to come back for the rest. I said 'no problem you can all do them individually' as there were three customer service staff doing nothing on the checkout. Suddenly she could do all of them.all be it 2 at a time. I asked for the receipt for proof of points added and she only gave me one receipt and said the 2nd one didn't print out.

Since they said 500k (or whatever it was) of 1000 points to be won then they have to give them out or could have problems, whereas 200 points is unlimited.

So either they are being more generous this year or it was alot less popular because few people are getting 200 pts

Well I have had a great weekend for points. Petrol netted me a 2000, 1000 and 2 x 500 points. Someone in front of me got a 500 points voucher a threw it into the bin so retrieved by me and hopefully can be added to my balance. Got some 2000 and 1000 points in store as well. Some people must be reading Hukd as they got low shopping amounts and presenting vouchers for points however most and by far the majority men either did not have a card or did not want the voucher or like the man in front of me just chucked it away without even looking at it.

We shop at Sainsbury's for fuel, but in general go to Aldi for our grocery shops. However, we put together 5 x £10-£12 grocery shops of items that were on offer to take advantage of the promotion.

Did 10 Shops on Fuel £100 & 5 Grocery Shops £60 Since Friday, never been away from the place, or it seems like it. Assistants in the Petrol Station were laughing at us, as (my wife and I) filled up two cars over the weekend in £10 increments . Petrol Station Staff were very helpful, scanning any previous Store shop vouchers, and the new petrol one, after each sale. Lots of customers not taking advantage of the offer, either with no Nectar card or being unaware. I am well happy with the outcome and may try a double up, if one comes along later this year.

Oct 14th Spend £44 2 x 2000 1 x 1000 1 x 500 (£27.50)
Oct 15th Spend £53 1 x 5000 1 x 2000 3 x 500 (£42.50)
Oct 16th Spend £63 2 x 2000 1 x 1000 3 x 500 (£32.50)

Do we know if Sainsbury's will be doing a "double up"? All very well building these points up, but if they follow Tesco's lead there won't be another one ever again!

Coupled with their acquisition of Argos a few months ago, I have a feeling that the promotional landscape might have changed and a double up isn't on the agenda!

Hope I'm wrong.

19 Oct 16 1 #288
That's petrol vouchers you're thinking of (eg spend £20 on Tu and get 8p off per litre).

When you made a £10 spend during swipe and win the receipt didn't indicate that you got any bonus points.

Even if you bought something and added on bonus points from a previous shop they couldn't take them off you when you returned the item because you earned those points on a previous shop.
Dude1971

And neither do the general coupon terms which say the coupon "may only be redeemed by the Nectar card holder identified on the front of the coupon if applicable".

The barcode on the coupon is generic but there is a series of numbers along the top of the coupon which wil identify the specific transaction/store and therefore who the coupon had been issued to.

What a nasty experience. Save my coupons til today, go in late so whoever is on customer services has nothing to do. Get accused of having coupons that couldn't possibly be mine, then have to defend yourself to get them added onto my card. I only had 9, horrible lady.

£180 spend, £100 points. Happy with that.

To get the points added do you have to make a purchase or can you take your nectar card and coupon to customer services.

Buy something - the self-service tills can scan in up to 1000 point vouchers (more may need the operators help). The CS desk at my local store refused to just scan them in.

They can't refuse, you already bought something to get the original voucher,it said in the terms no purchase necessary, they are just being awkward.

Nasty experience I had a similar one. The customer assistant pretended they could only redeem one coupon and I had 6. Eventually after much to and throwing I got them done. Some of the assistants are too jealous.

The person serving me said the same 'I can't scan your coupons you have to buy something' complete rubbish which I pointed out to them.

We were the same last Monday they were really awkward with us and the assistant on the self service tills was well funny with us pointing out the she had only won 500 points in total from the one shop she did (Whats that got to do with me??) they first told us we would have to come back to redeem one coupon each day and that I couldn't use more than one, in the end they reluctantly agreed to add them on at customer services saying they would do it this once but not for anyone else

Think the sainsbury customer service should hear about it and deal with arkward members of staff. Not impressed with their customer service in the few dealings I've had with them though.

I know what you mean, the store for empty so not like I was creating a queue. I actually thought I was going to have to produce my bank statement or receipts. Felt so uncomfortable like I was being fraudulent or something. How can 9 be too many that it's an impossible thing, as soon as I said to her about the £10 limit to get a coupon she shut up, still horrid silence while they were put onto my card.
BrianM

Well they did refuse! Rather than argue I got the checkout girl to scan in ALL my coupons on a fairly small shop!

I love that silence. Hehehehe....tends to happen to me every time a promotion like this is on.
