Always amazes me people on here whinging about being rip off on these, yet in really terms these sugary products are cheaper than ever. These tins used to be much bigger but were also more expensive, most people used to have to buy then through hamper companies or catalogue companies and pay weekly to even afford a tin at Christmas. Now people pick up a couple with their weekly shop.

​Exactly! It's such a boring and ignorant argument. With inflation, those large tins were the equivalent of over £20.

Prime members can get this larger tin for £7.00 which works out at £5.34 kilo. However Lidl offer still a bit cheaper at £5.12 kilo. You may just like the bigger Christmas tin.....

It does not matter what the product is... but these tins are a great example of consumer perception
Buyers perceived they are getting ripped off and watching the tins get smaller each year just reinforces that view
Oh.. some will sit and work out the cost reflecting inflationary changes but most won't...or want to and blame it squarely

Are the sweets inside smaller too? How do people think? I thoughts the individual sweets were larger in the 1980s/1990s.

I think this offer at Tesco ended a couple of weeks ago now. I've just had a look at mySupermarket, and apart from the £3.99 (780 g) tub at LIDL, the next cheapest is the 780 g tub at Iceland for £4.00 (works out to 51.3 p per 100 g) - two tubs would cost you £8.00 and you would get 1560 g of chocolates.

729g tub this morning at Waitrose is £3.60 with MyWaitrose card (£4.00 without). It is a lot smaller than it used to be :smirk:

Stocked up with a tesco deal a few weeks back ended up paying 62p per 250g. WHICH IS BASICALLY WHAT THEY ARE WORTH.

Chocolate flavoured margerine. Check the ingredients.

Get proper chocolate and enjoy!

Why are people complaining about the size, if the price remains the same it's kinda logical that the product will get smaller. Look what Coca Cola did they only do 1.75L bottles now.

I remember the big ol' tins from the 70's........plus a box of York Fruits and those orange and lemon slices from the hamper from the milkman, but then we pretty much got naff all else all year.

What disappoints me most is the lack of quality these days. I think these are produced by Nestlé these days and I think they have the same parent company as Crapburys. That's globalisation for you.....think I'll stick to humbug this years.

Nestle have reduced the size of all their chocolate bars again recently.

If they put the size and prices up would you buy them? They do a bigger tin that is about the same per kg but the smaller tubs are way more popular. The customer decides what to buy and if the customer doesn't buy it then the company won't make it. Coke decided that increasing the price would lose more customers than reducing the size so that is what they did. All about sales.

Bring back the peanut cracknell! That was awesome, but sadly missed...

Good deal though for the current varieties until another 2 for £7 comes around.

Well think again Gruvy Cadbury is owned by Mendelez formerly Kraft, Rowntree Mackintosh is now Nestle.

I thought so, but wasn't sure if my palate have changed and less sensitive or more fussy after eating all the quality foreign choc with higher cocoa contents and finer milling.

They should do a Corbynista Quality Street Edition to bring back social justice and values to Quality Street, bigger boxes and larger sweets like it was in the 1980s.

Yes and you could have some smaller wages like they did in the 1980's, that should suite you.
