All went fine with the restore from usb hdd , anyone else think that the ps4 pro's hdd cage looks bigger and might possibly be able to take more than a 2TB drive ?

I thanked the OP at the time but to my delight my order never got cancelled and even though I went with standard delivery which was due to arrive monday it turned up this afternoon.

So thanks again OP. Now to wait while 800gb of data is transferred from my old ps4...
REDBULL2K7
10 Nov 16 1 #442
Yeah done my last ps4 . But sold it so cant do it with cable . Will try later or prb 2morw now and let u no. Thats whats confusing because on the normal ps4 guide it says u can use a hard drive etc but on the ps4 pro only mentions the ethernet guide and ive got the demo of P.T on it
once_upon_a_tyne
10 Nov 16 #441
Harddrive is the same, so, this guide:
http://www.techradar.com/how-to/gaming/how-to-upgrade-your-ps4-hard-drive-1285428
NOTE: You're updating with the large 900ish mb file, not the smaller update file.
Make sure your USB stick is formatted to FAT32 (lots of people forget that).

Then this guide for transferring data:
https://blog.eu.playstation.com/2016/11/09/how-to-transfer-your-data-from-ps4-to-ps4-pro/

I'd do it with the cable to be honest, but I don't see any reason why you can't restore it from the harddrive.
REDBULL2K7
10 Nov 16 #440
Yeah same here. Want to swap harddrive over and then transfer all my backed up games etc which ive backed up to a external drive. If its the same as normal it should be ok i hope.

Mines got all brown parcel tape going around it ??
once_upon_a_tyne
10 Nov 16 #439
Depends exactly what you're trying to do.

I changed the harddrive in the PS4 Pro without even starting it up.
Then I transferred the old PS4 data onto the new one.
REDBULL2K7
10 Nov 16 #438
Still not home yet. I backed up my old ps4 to a external harddrive , is it the same as normal and u just connect it and use restore as all the info ive read has only mention doing via ethernet cable ?? . Cheers

No doubt there'll be other deals, but I can't see a sub-£299 price happening soon.

We won't see this less than £299 over Black Friday. If we do, it'll be with a stock of 6 units for the UK or something (i.e. not a real deal).

With my VR I stated a preference (it was an option on their app) to avoid school runs. So when was my expected delivery time "14:45-15:45" as per "my" instructions. Bit the bullet this time and paid a fiver to upgrade delivery time to "before noon" when I know I'll be home. Figured I'd saved £50 so whats a fiver!
shadders139
9 Nov 16 #400
Same as above. If you're not going to be in, The stupid DPD system makes you pick a collection location relatively close to your delivery address. That's ridiculous since they have lots of collection points near my work, but the system still makes me pick one that's closer to my home, and harder to get to. Have come across this with Dpd before, and there's no contact details for them on their website . You'd think a courier would be on top of common issues like this. I blame trump

once_upon_a_tyne
8 Nov 16 #379
Hmmm. You can ALWAYS wait though. Once Scorpio is launched, we'll be into the countdown to the PS5 .etc

I've got PSVR (it's astoundingly good) and I'm hooking it up to the PS4 Pro. I've not got a 4k TV, I've no intention of getting one either. Purely buying for the small performance increase with VR, and the performance increase in 1080p is a bonus.
shadders139
8 Nov 16 1 #378
Haha, it's not so much 'waiting 6 months', it's more like I don't really want a PS4 for right now (PSVR was the main reason) there's a few ps3 games on my 'to play list' that will likely take me a few months to get through, and once that's done I'll probs want a ps4. So it was a dilemma of keep something I wont need for a few months just because I got a good deal, or just buy when I actually want it and get a better deal (at which point waiting for the Xbox project scorpio might also be more tempting). Thanks to people's input i'm erring on the former!

CEX currently offering: -

Playstation 4 Pro 1TB Black, Boxed

Gaming / Playstation4 Consoles
WeSell for £350.00
WeBuy for cash £255.00
WeBuy for voucher £280.00

Price might obviously change once the console has been released.
Chanchi32
7 Nov 16 1 #370
You get 30 days returns with Tesco, so could keep it sealed for a bit and see what November deals bring, who knows.

If you're not bothered about keeping it for day 1, you could see what cex will give for it on release, if its £350 cash maybe worth taking the money and then rebuying from another deal that will come along.
once_upon_a_tyne
7 Nov 16 1 #369
It's incredibly hard to predict. I'd think late summer next year. Who knows though. I'd say earlier, but with there being a PS4 beneath it, it's harder to predict. Will they lower the price to try and get people to jump, or will it sell well and keep the price. I'd think £300 next year is predictable, but lower than that is hard to predict. If you can afford it, I'd keep it now. It's a great deal.
shadders139
7 Nov 16 #368
thanks

thanks for the help . with the caveat that its all just a guess, when you say next year it'll hit 270-280, any idea what sort of time frame we're talking about, autumn 2017 or earlier? I guess it just goes against the conventional wisdom of "the longer you wait, the cheaper it'll be", but this seems to have been a great deal
once_upon_a_tyne
7 Nov 16 #367
OK, so it's all guess work... I can see a handful of very hard to snag £300ish deals over Christmas and Boxing day. Very limited supply, but a few. Next year, it'll probably hit £270-£280, but not for a while.

I managed to snag this too. I can't see it being beaten for quite a while.
taiko
7 Nov 16 #366
better keep it mate , might not go that cheap for the next few months.
shadders139
7 Nov 16 #365
Could anyone in the know about consoles tell me as to how long many months it'll likely be till this deal is beaten?

I managed to snag one, at £300 because I thought I'd want it for psvr, but having tried PSVR, I think it's not worth the price right now. So basically I can wait a few months for the PS4 Pro, but don't want to end up wanting to buy one in like March/April and finding myself paying more than £300.

Thanks for the help!

Strange, I posted the tesco response on the website and it hasn't shown up in the post on the hduk app. Basically they responded saying that the 14th was a default date and all pre-orders are dispatched in time for delivery on the day of launch
petedonoghue
27 Oct 16 2 #348
I ordered it 16/09/2016 and, at the time on the item page, it said, 'pre-order now for delivery on the day of launch'. After ordering, the order confirmation said 'expect delivery Monday 14th of November', so I emailed Tesco and got the following response:

I can't guarantee it would be the same for other people that have ordered after me

Odd isn't it?

Thanks for emailing Tesco Direct.

I appreciate your concern we have been having some issues with this item but I'm pleased to inform you that you did make your order in time and you should expect to receive your order on the release date which is 14/11/16.

24 Oct 16 #334
Mine isn't terrible but some games really ramp the fan up , but i did have to fix a friends whose sounded like a hair dryer and it is a common complaint looking online.
wigan_stu
24 Oct 16 #333
I think there's a few things that affect it, but temperature is definitely one. Mines in a bit of a confined area which doesn't help (although it's still alive and kicking)

Build quality and the quality of the thermal paste is a big factor and this seems to vary between consoles even from the same hardware revision. I play with headphones on so thankfully it doesn't bother me!
once_upon_a_tyne
24 Oct 16 #332
Maybe one of us is lucky/unlucky. I've never heard a peep from mine.
I do live in a cold house though, so maybe it never needs to kick in!
wigan_stu
24 Oct 16 #331
The original one (I've still got a launch model) does get quite loud when the fan kicks in. I've heard that the Pro will have similar noise levels to the phat ps4 (but not explained whether launch model, or the quieter later revisions.)

Apparently, the slim is silent though.
once_upon_a_tyne
24 Oct 16 1 #330
I have a launch day console though, which I upped to a 1.5tb harddrive at launch. The whole thing doesn't make any sound? Is that considered to be an issue with the PS4?? I've never heard mine do anything.
chevychase
24 Oct 16 #329
Glad to hear lots of us still haven't had this cancelled, i think £299 is about the right price for this as i can't see it selling out like the VR did.

I've looked online and can't find anything about the noise levels for the pro, i'm guessing nobody has one yet even to review but i am curious to see if they have made it quieter than the original. A 'pro' item suggests luxury which sounding like a hair dryer certainly isn't.
wigan_stu
24 Oct 16 1 #328
I'm not sure what issues there are, and I do a lot of research before buying a console.

AAA games were never going to be rendered in native 4k as standard however the checkboarding technique is proving almost indistinguishable to native 4k.

Im not sure what ports are missing either? They've added a 3rd USB port but everything else is the same as the Phat Ps4.

All the independent sites I've been reading are really bigging up the Pro and the gains in res / fps and the gains to vr.
tawse57
24 Oct 16 #327
Yes, but I suspect £200 and a game for the Slim will be normal by the time the Pro launches. Just my hunch. Time will tell.
once_upon_a_tyne
24 Oct 16 #326
Not denying there are issues with the Pro, I'm just categorically saying they aren't going to knock £100 off the RRP pre-launch. Especially not when that takes it below the RRP of both the non-pro 1tb PS4 and the Slim.
tawse57
24 Oct 16 1 #325
Well, the PS4 Slim is now often being bundled with a game for £250 and I suspect that will go lower in price as we get near the launch of the Pro.

There are a load of articles saying that the Pro has weaknesses - not true 4K apparently, just upscales like the Xbox S. Lacking any kind of DVD player, some ports missing. I don't know the details as they have gone in one ear and out the other but I think there are enough articles out there basically saying that the Pro is not such a leap forward that everyone was hoping it would be.

I suspect, between the launch of the Pro and the MS Scorpio next year, that we will see a PS4 Pro II launched which addresses some of the criticisms of the Pro coming in a fortnight's time.
once_upon_a_tyne
24 Oct 16 2 #324
No chance. Might see it for £300 somewhere else, but there's no way on Earth they'll be launching the PS4 Pro for £250-£280. The only hope of that would be a misprice/error. They've just launched the 500gb slim at about £260, and the 1tb at about £310.
tawse57
24 Oct 16 #323
I would not worry about orders being cancelled. I suspect that £299 for the PS4 Pro AND a game will become standard during the launch week. Can imagine some etailers taking another £20 or even £50 off that price.

Just got off the phone with customer service, asked them whether I'd be refunded the difference from the £299 price drop since I preordered last month when it was £349. CS said they'd been given instructions to follow regarding this issue then went to consult with their superior, in the end they said since the £299 was a pricing error and not an actual price drop they couldn't actually refund the difference, but they could refund the difference of the current £332 since it is a price drop.

So will be refunded £16 when the console is despatched, bringing the total price down to £306. Anyone who preordered when it was £349 should call Tesco Direct and tell them to refund the difference of the current price, in case it increases again.

You should grow up as you're acting like a child. The mods have removed your rude posts. If you don't want to add to the discussion, just concentrate on your school work, this will do you good!
The fact you chose (not choose) one typo and try to carry on your personal attack, shows you are either trolling or literally have no life.

Not sure I understand you, particularly with you misspelling the word idiot.. But let's assume I do. If you don't care about the difference in spec and capabilities at all then you have zero reason to upgrade if you own a normal ps4.

If you do care then it's up to the buyer whether they value the improvements enough.

Some people try to get extra info to make a decision, if you think they shouldn't, that would be your limitation and not theirs.

As I said, I might have misunderstood..

Same. I've had a PS4 since launch and I upgraded my Xbox to the One S 2TB. While I'd have liked 4K bluray, I've got it in the xbone and although I'll get a Scorpio, this is a good halfway house for me between having an aging launch model and their next major console - they were too far along and we had the rumoured specs of the Neo for a while, makes sense to release this and PS5 to be 2018. Eurogamer/DF articles have shown there is merit in the greater specs and the price isn't too bad. I've just sold my PS4 and will wait for Black Friday or other deals I reckon, hoping for £300 with a game.
Tee_Doff23
20 Oct 16 #178
I'm upgrading, but not expecting too much. Each person needs to judge for themselves if the possibility of smoother framerates, higher image quality or the other enhancements are worth it - especially so for those that bought VR.

Anyone who doesn't currently have one and wants a PS4 would be best stumping up for the pro over the slim though, imo.

I don't believe they will pee off the 40+ million current PS4 owners for a Pro exclusive game, maybe when they are thinking of the PS5 they might drop support for the original earlier though.

I'd be more concerned about how the Scorpio and xbox one will co-exist. That beast may we be 5x the power of original console....

Yes, well that is my issue I suppose. I expect others might be expecting more than it is capable of. If that is the case then it's not really worthwhile to upgrade if, like me, you have a ps4 already.

My worry is the 2 tier console and if in future they shift to only offer a sony exclusive on the pro.

PS4 pro does not seem a worthy upgrade for most, especially if you don't have 4k TV yet (I don't), but the one thing I would like that it has is the ability to remote play at 1080p to my Retina Macbook. It runs smoot at present but the 720p resolution just makes it look "washed out", if this was 1080p it would be perfect. Baffles me that the original PS4's cannot do this at 1080p already, given that the original xbox one can...and it's too hefty a price to justify the PS4 pro just for that upgrade.

Been there too I'm afraid. Usually after a week or so of hearing nothing, you'll get an "the supplier is unable to fulfil the order" message and you'll get your money back a week or so later. - The Last Of Us Remastered (Native [email protected] with the best shadows)
- Smite (Native [email protected])
- The Elder Scroll Online (Native [email protected])
- The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim Special Edition Edition (Native [email protected])
- Mantis Burn Racing (Native [email protected] / Native [email protected] for 4 player split-screen)
- Wheels of Aurelia (Native [email protected])
- Futuridium EP Deluxe (Native [email protected])
- forma.8 (Native [email protected] + 8xMSAA )
- Rez Infinite (Native [email protected])
- Hustle Kings (Native 4K)
- Thumper (Native 4K)
- NBA 2K17 (Native [email protected] + HDR)
- Bound (Native [email protected] + MSAA x2 upscaled from MSAAx8 in normal gameplay / in VR mode: rendering to 4K internal screen which is then supersampled to 1080P display in PSVR + new effects like volumetric lights + sharper shadows)
- Viking Squad (Native [email protected]).

With most also confirming improvements for 1080p with stable frame rates and increased textures etc such as tomb raider and killing floor 2.

Just pulled it from a quick Google search.

The point is mute. I can hook up my celeron laptop to a 4K monitor and view 4K photos and play minesweeper in 4K. It doesn't make it a 4K gaming rig despite the technicality of playing a game in 4K but fanboys will argue. I also haven't said the console is bad, all Zi said is it isn't 4K and if you own a PS4 isn't worth the upgrade considering other options.

Even if you do have a 4K TV, it's not going to be a massive upgrade.
People are forgetting that this is 1080p upscaled to 2160p, not native 4K.

Sure there will be native 4K indie games, but nothing 'AAA' quality.
dr_lovejoy
20 Oct 16 #148
That's 700 all in including headset. A vive costs £730 alone! To get true 4K across the board it's be proven you need a titan at over £1000. So no the PS4 pro will only do true 4K on small games. But then it's a fraction of the cost! As for the Scorpio people keep talking about, that won't do 4K justice either. It's simply not powerful enough. Yes ms can say what they want but the facts remain.
My personal opinion is people should get over 4K and use that extra power on making more vibrant worlds. This is exactly my feelings on the issue.

Ah man... My regular blu-ray player can output (upscale) at 4K, my TV can upscale to 4K from an SD feed. The SD feed and my regular blu-ray player are NOT 4K, upscaling adds false information to fill the space. Native 4K has no false information added and has much higher detail. The extra power in the PS4 pro will make processing more efficient and will result in a better looking picture (upscale to 4K) from 1080p and better still for games at 1880p etc due to extra native detail so imagine what a native 4K game will look like in comparison.

If I have to explain it you and others with the same response and links to upscaling really won't notice the difference.

2minutenoodles
20 Oct 16 #134
I think the PS4 pro could have done ok if they included a UHD player.. lol Think people are realising that this console is a huge step backwards on the media front and although more powerful isn't a worthy upgrade when considering even an Xbox one S offers UHD and for less. I own both PS4 and now recently Xbox One S, my Xbox plays its exclusives and UHD my PS4 is my primary games console. It would be madness to buy a PS4 pro at this price as it offers nothing new. If in the market I would wait for Nintendo Nx for more exclusives or Scorpio for true 4K. PS4 really missed the mark on this one and despite its extra power will get much cheaper as the only reason to buy one is if you have too much money, it gets much cheaper or your regular PS4 dies.

Lots of people seem to raise the fact you need to invest in a decent PC to use oculus or vive. But my understanding is now that to get the full experience from PS vr, I need the vr, a PS pro, a camera, and some move controllers.. This totals well above £700..

Can someone show me some evidence that games will actually perform well at 4k on a pro console? Im surprised people are considering this as 'next gen', as I have gamed on PC at 4k for at least a year, but happy to be proven wrong.

My understanding is there will not be an exclusive game released that does not work on existing PS4s.

The one thing that might have persuaded me to upgrade to pro is 4k blu ray support, and Sony decided not to include that!..

I do somewhat agree, some developers are releasing patches that improve the graphics and performance at 1080p but this will be quite limited at release and for a few months after, for those with PSVR's like me the Pro makes more sense as while the VR is great and works well the resolution is somewhat low and could really do with a boost whereas the standard PS4 games still look fantastic and just need so the 'need' for the peformance or resolution boost

I am definitely going to get a Pro but I think I will wait until a game designed for it like Mass Effect Andromeda gets released by then I might have a 4k tv and with the PSVR makes sense for me to invest in a PS4 Pro

I am unsure what to do. I don't own a 4K TV as yet and I am unlikely to get one until late next year. I wanted this as it plays games better at 1080p 60FPS (more important) and graphics upgrade to a degree. But with no bundles and the typical boring black colour, I may just wait for another addition. I prefer different colour playstations or limited editions etc. Note I recently got the Gears of war 4 limited edition Xbox one s and I've sent two back already as they have that loud faulty fan noise issue. So sometimes these first batch have issues. As for the Xbox, I've sent it back and I will await the Scorpio. Hope that's not plain black and boring! (Every console I've always changed or waited for a limited edition, something that looks nicer under my tele) ...... each for their own.

£299 for this? Why waste money and save that money and put it towards the Xbox Scorpio (which is powerful than PS4 Pro). I can see Scorpio running first party games at native 4K resolution, give or take few other third party developers (or maybe majority).

PS4 Pro, should have just called it PS4 2K LOL then next year when Scorpio launches launch PS4 4K LOL.
Joke aside...

I have feeling end of next year (Scorpio launch time probably). SONY will announce PS5 with launch date early 2018 to take the venomous sting out.

I thin PS4 Pro will have worse fan noise than the launch model of PS4. We shall wait and see when numerous videos pop up on YouTube.

20 Oct 16 #46
what 25 quid voucher ?
tony-starks
20 Oct 16 #45
I bet this is a price error, can't imagine Tesco would take £50 off RRP when no one else is doing so.

But I ordered one anyway
Draytondood
20 Oct 16 #44
I'd say they will honour your extra £25 voucher code.
lukey52
20 Oct 16 #43
Still works, I just clicked through now and ordered @ £299

Thanks OP, was planning to pick this up at or around release anyway so £50 saving is much appreciated

This and will they still honour the £25 off?

Links don't seem to work now. They just take you to Tesco.com. It's still showing at £349 when you search on Tesco direct.

20 Oct 16 #39
Its the same price as the regular PS4 slim. They might of made a mistake. Got mine for £286.50 with vouchers Id been saving. Thanks OP:) Dragon Quest builders £32.29 too.

Ordered. Thanks OP, now just need to sell my OG PS4. Don't wanna sell it now cause I just got a PSVR. But don't wanna wait till too late when the price tanks for it. Hmmmm what to do??? Lol
graemehurst
20 Oct 16 2 #34
As above, is it worth contacting Tesco about this? I also already pre-ordered (and paid) with the voucher code for £325, but on their pre-order T&Cs it says you'll only be refunded if it's cheaper on release day not if it's cheaper before release. If that's the case, Amazon's policy is far better.
Matt4045
20 Oct 16 1 #33
Really hope Amazon does the price match.
teddy1590
20 Oct 16 3 #32
Why? I already have a PS4, and I don't have a 4K TV. If they had said that PS4 Pro would play most/ or at least a fair bit more, games at 60 FPS @ 1080p I would be pre-ordering Day One, but their reveal of the Pro was so lacking, and their communications regarding it since not being much better, as to what if any benefits people without 4K TV's will get from the Pro.

Interested to hear the reasoning behind this if it's an official price drop from Sony. Pre-orders not going so well for it? It's possible that they've managed to lower their manufacturing / distribution costs between announcement and release, but by £50? When you factor in as well that Sterling has dropped even further against the dollar since the announcement, it seems pretty curious to have a £50 price drop before release.
skykid3 to teddy1590
20 Oct 16 #27
Don't question,just buy it!!
teddy1590
20 Oct 16 2 #26
The thing is it wouldn't surprise me if the pre-order numbers were big to start with then fell off sharply. This isn't a whole new generational leap, you're not going to be able to play any games on the Pro you can't on the regular PS4. I could see the die-hard Playstation fans rushing out to pre-order it, but once they've got their pre-orders in, I just don't see the appeal to the more casual, average Playstation fan. I'd consider myself one of the more die-hard fans, but given I have no 4K TV or interest in buying one anytime soon, I'm sitting this one out.

Love my PSVR though.
dazzyp
20 Oct 16 #25
I think it's just a pricing error. The PS4 1TB Slim is £299 at Tesco's and MCV said Pro preorders were high two weeks ago. I can't imagine preorders suddenly collapsing.
rbramhill1
