Everybodys gone to rapture looks good but I wouldn't touch the Chinese Rooms games for free after the rubbish they said about CD Projekt Red. Accusing them of sexism in the Witcher 3 - clearly they never played any of the Witcher games.

Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture is very beautiful to look at. Great for a little explore and enjoy the art. I found it to be really boring as I like some action happening or a decent story. May not be for everyone but for free it's worth a play anyway!

Had a feeling we would get Costume Quest 2 but thought it would have been in time for October for Halloween. Looking forward to that one

Everybody's Gone to the Rupture... for "free"... worth playing
gt4game
26 Oct 16 3 #33
WOW these games!
PS Plus is not worth it for the free games.
No offence to the people that do enjoy these Indie games, but the majority of people who purchased a PS4 was to play big games such as FIFA, COD and even GTA. The majority of people will not even attempt to play these "2D" games. In my opinion console gaming didn't advance from games like these and so why are Sony giving away these sub-standard games.

Anyway, free is free and I can't really complain. But it would be nice to see a free game that you can actually buy from the shelves of any game store.

2D games aren't necessarily bad. If you want to play triple AAA bestsellers, you don't buy a PS+ subscription for that (ignoring the online MP part).

However, IGC games are incentives to get the subscription (moreso when Sony was lagging behind Microsoft) so they're not really free and every subscriber has a right to feel dissatisfied with the monthly games.

I sincerely hope we never see Knack and Killzone and the like, as I have bought them already

I look at PS+ as a year sub to be able to play games online. I own all the consoles, so get all the games every month. If two are playable I'm happy. I'd never get the time to play 6 decent titles anyway!

It's about £3 a month or less for most people (depending how much your year sub cost) to play online. Expecting AAA games when Sony is kicking Microsoft's ass is asking for miracles...

To be fair, I used to wish and hope for so-called "big" titles or "triple-As" but as someone said, if you really want them, you'd have bought them by now.

I look upon the "free" games as an opportunity to try games out that I'd never normally have tried. Really looking forward to this month's line-up, especially Rapture

26 Oct 16 1 #50
Exactly - Fed up with people moaning about the 'free' games that particular month when we are actually paying to play online with the games being a bonus. The games are an extra and NOT the reason for the subscription. It's always nice to get a free game that you may have looked at but never bothered buying but its not a reason to moan when the games offered are not what you want that month.
Dukemz
26 Oct 16 2 #51
It unfortunately shows how little u know about games. There's so much more to gaming than big budget shooters or football games. Try exposing yourself to more than just the usual. You may "grow" as a gamer, who knows? And Rapture is in 3D by the way.
JohnOFarrell
26 Oct 16 1 #52
Actually it's the exact opposite for me, I prefer games that CAN'T be bought off the shelf. People would have raved about this month if for example The Order, Far Cry 4 etc was free but these can be bought and sold on eBay right now for under £10 so you can effectively play them for free by selling them after - even make a profit!!. Digital/indie games have NO RESALE VALUE so actually work out more expensive to play making them a much more attractive addition to Ps plus.

I really don't understand anyone complaining about PS Plus, if you want a certain AAA game, buy it, play it and sell it.. I've done it for years, played all the top games and it's costs nothing!
gazdavis11
26 Oct 16 1 #53

I'm a casual gamer. Been playing since C64 days... I picked up Rapture from the PS Store and found it a breath of fresh air.

Not everyone will like it. But, for me, heading round a made up village, back to the 1980s, with a pace of walking, and something which doesn't involve shooting the sh1t out of something was nice.

Rapture is well worth a look. It's a radio play in a FHD game.

'Rapture is one of the best games i have played on the PS4 - sure there isn't a huge amount of interaction and i guess you could justifiably say it is not a 'game' as such, but as far as 'experiences' go i think it was fantastic, graphically it is excellent and the story really drew me in - i can heartedly recommend it to anyone who wants more than just fps or driving games...

i think the xbox games for gold is a better services now

the free games once purchased are not just when your susbscribed to the gold as they are free forever your account

the backwards compatibility means that all their old xbox games they bought and new gold giveaways are playable on the xbone

sony should allow these games to be free even if you drop the ps plus membership (not that im gonna anyway)
and also while members of psplus allow anyone that has ps3 games or ones given away by ps plus to play them on the ps now service without the membership of playstation now i thought we were supposed to be going to be allowed to play our owned game for free on the playstation now service anyway, what happened with that ?

ahh thought that was for xbone games aswell ok but so sony could and should allow psplus owners with ps3 games digital or otherwise to play them on playstation now for the price of the psplus subscription fee

thats if both are trying to offer the same service as their rivals this would be the equivalence of the ps4 being able to play ps3 games

EGTTR is a great experience if you've got any kind of emotional depth to you. If your idea of a perfect "game" is the loop of shooting people/dying/exploding/repeating/grinding for loot then it probably isn't for you.

Personally this is the reason I pay for PS+. Big AAA games get so much exposure you know you want it before it even goes on sale, and most people go and buy it, even if not on release day. But Indie games generally get very little exposure, and I'd probably either never hear about them, or not spend money on them, so PS+ is a great way for me to broaden my understanding of what makes a game.

I've enjoyed games like EGTTR, Inside etc far more than the majority of the £40+ AAA games this year, and I love a lot of those franchises too.

This lineup displeases me. Largely cos I have both the PS4 games already. (And like them both FWIW).
Cant believe the fuss some people are making about the games though. I mean if you are not seeing games you want dont download them maybe a good solution. I was under the impression that the games that come with the subscription (for this this and XBL) were a bonus. If you buy PS+ just for the monthly games then it would make sense to look over say the last 12-24 months offerings and see if they suit. If not ... and this is a bit radical.. dont subscribe.

Deadly Tower of Monsters is probably the best game of all. Quite short but at least you actually play. Not like the walking simulator Everybody's Gone to Rapture is.
axiomglitch
27 Oct 16 #114
The issue I have is mainly that more recently the indie games they're providing aren't even a great selection or of great quality. If the indie games were more a showcase of some of the good ones then great (eg. Transistor, Rocket League, Race The Sun etc) then i'd have less of an issue, but more and more frequently it's almost shovelware.

27 Oct 16 1 #117
I never understand the argument that you didn't buy a PS4 to play indie games, obviously you didn't otherwise it was a bad purchase, hopefully you didn't buy a PS4 under the assumption that PS+ would provide all the games you would ever need either.

PS+ and GWG has lead me to playing some games I may not have tried otherwise that I really enjoyed, for the lest than a pint per month asking fee for both I don't mind if there are games I ignore as the games I have enjoyed have justified the cost for me considering that I would have had it anyway to play online.

Everyone's gone to the Rapture is one I bought anyway and I really enjoyed it as an experience, I can see how it wouldn't be for everyone but I encourage people to give it a look, it's not long and you might find you really enjoy it. Could have done with an option to walk faster than a leisurely stroll, at least a brisk walk button, maybe even one for a slight jog.
J_Staunton
27 Oct 16 #118
You have absolutely nothing to back up your comment about "the majority of people". You also have no basis upon which to allude to gaming advancing from anything. 2D gaming (EGTTR is not one of those games, though I assume you weren't referring to that) is as much a part of gaming as 3D. It just happens to be your opinion.

I played A LOT of CoD back in the day, I bought FIFA this year and yet I loved EGTTR. People can have different tastes, and walking simulator criticism aside, it's a mechanically solid and great looking game.

Final point, a lot of these smaller Indie games which would previously only have come out on PC, are now coming out on the Xbox One and PS4, and while others may not care, I love that. They may not be AAA games, but I like that I have the option to play those games on consoles I own, as opposed to the old days where that wasn't even possible.

Question from a new PS4 owner - if you pay for PS plus do Sony then actually run game servers? Or are you paying for the privilege of playing on another persons PS4.

My PS3 is still getting far more use than the PS4 because of this extra cost. I only game for a few hours every couple of weeks.

27 Oct 16 #124
The important difference is that PS3 games can only run on a physical PS3. The PS Now service uses racks of actual PS3 hardware and you stream the game running on an actual PS3 at their end. This of course incurs not insignificant running costs whereas on Xbox One the 360 game runs directly on your Xbox One through a virtual machine.

As Sony spent a lot of money buying the company that developed the game streaming technology and buying and running the equipment needed they don't want to just give that away free. Whereas Microsoft once they developed the virtual machine it costs them almost nothing to give access 360 games on Xbox One. As Microsoft are trying to catch Sony they see providing the free backwards compatibility as a way to generate extra sales of the Xbox One.

Only bought Tower of Monsters a month or so back, thankfully when it was on sale or I'd be even more miffed. Great game if you've not played it, make sure to have the sound on and listen to the commentary, it's what really makes the game, very funny.

I don't think the majority of people think that at all. I'm pretty sure I'm not alone in thinking that FIFA and COD are detestable piles of garbage. They've taken formulae that are decades old and added nothing to them except complexity and marketing. I've had the FIFA experience, I've had the COD experience. I see nothing in the newer games except inflated prices, DLCs and rehashes of old content. If that's what you call 'advancement' then I'm sad for you.

Means we get Pumped BMX+ on all three platforms. So we actually get 4 games for PS4 this month . OK theyr're all smaller ones, although 2 have platinums, so you could argue they're big games too.

Another good month so a decent deal for PS+.

So many things wrong with your post. EGTTR is a superb game, one of my favourites of all time. It doesn't matter if a game is 2D or 3D, they can still be amazing. Try something different for a change! Other than the 25th version of Fifa, 11th COD and 5th major GTA. Indie games can be hit and miss but are often the most rewarding games.

Also you're not even correct saying these games are free. They're not, surely you're paying for them by subscribing to PS+. If they don't interest you, you shouldn't be subscribing!

What happened to the voting for next ps plus game? Anyway, I pay ps plus for online gaming, the free games are a bonus. £3 a month isn't unreasonable and to moan you're not getting a £40 rrp game every month is a bit ott.

Time to make sure I renew then, may not be brand new as to many people expect but they are games that give variety compared to generic military shooter or sports game 2k etc.
Will be on the hunt for a cheap 3 month code now. Thanks

In Everybody's Gone to the Rapture you hold down R2 which builds up walking speed until you're running. Not sprinting, which wouldn't suit the game, but moving much more quickly than normal. Handy if you're moving back over somewhere you've fully explored (I find it amazingly enjoyable to explore every inch of the incredibly lifelike area).

yeah your probably right but you'd think these huge corporations would get it by now don't you ?, that we have the old games and when our consoles break it would be nice to be able to play them on the new console for because they we re great games and we never got to finish the or for nostalgia's sake but of course why not pay £12.99 a month that pricing as well geforce now is only £7.49 a month with 3 months free

Sony got badly burned on the PS3 when they included PS2 hardware in it in order for it to also be able to play PS2 games. This made it expensive and it struggled badly against the Xbox 360. With the PS4 they ditched backwards compatibility to make the price as low as possible and helped it sell a lot more than the Xbox One.

Sony could have made the PS4 backwards compatible but that would likely have been counter-productive.

I have not played a single game on this deal this year, I am Vita only btw. I think I need to sort my games and put all of the PS+ games on a separate card in case I want to play them, I recall you can do that without the subscription, need to check.

If I used my PS3 or had and used a PS4 I think that this is still a good deal, even if you only get 3 or 4 top games it is worth it and you should get another 3/4 free that you may have paid for.

The 2012-2015 period was pretty much the sweetspot; at this point, they'll be getting somewhat short of new big-name titles that can be offered.

1 Nov 16 #162
I enjoy my Tomb Raiders, Witcher 3s and FIFA but recently I've sunk a lot of time in to the cheaper end of PS4 gaming, the likes of Tower Fall Ascension, Ultratron, and Geometry Wars, some of which I've bought, some of which has been PS+ games. PS+ games don't have to be blockbuster, but they do have to be goodIMHO.

1 Nov 16 #163
Me too! First time PS+ has shafted me. 2 months in a row now where I've already owned one of the games too - Resident Evil last month (but I had actually played and finished that before it became free).

There were many great games for free already. Two of the best examples are NBA 2K16 and RocketLeague. Furthermore Playstation Plus is that you can play online and not that you receive free games like FIFA17 or GTA V. So don't complain. When you want to play those games then go to a store and buy them.

2 Nov 16 1 #177
Epic month - We got 4 very playable PS4 games! I wish people would quit complaining and get on with it! I personally look forward to playing some random games that mostly I wouldn't dream of buying because sometimes (more often than not) there are some gems in the line up. If you want Knack, Watchdogs or Killzone, cancel your plus subscription and go to Game or CEX and get them for a fiver each, or put your £40 you just saved towards your Xbone Ones!
chrisroth
8 Nov 16 #178
Amen to that. It's ridiculous to expect major blockbusters to be given away (or made available for rental if thats how you see PS+) through this service. You know about those games and if you wanted them you'd buy them at launch, as would everyone else that wants them. By the time they're given away free the community would have moved on.

This is perfect for opening our minds to experiences we might not have otherwise tried. Especially seeing as demos have all but died as a form. Sometimes I play once and delete, sometimes I download and cant bring myself to play (but might in the future), and you never know you come across something you'll really enjoy playing that makes you think "ooh so there is something other than games that cost $100m to produce and come out every 12 months with minor changes". You're (not you KPNut42) seriously risking missing out if you take a quick look at a screenshot and dismiss a game. You play to enjoy the time you spend playing right? not just to look at pretty graphics (and "indie" games are polished experiences in their own right anyway, not rubbish knocked up by one guy in a weekend).
ruanicolson
10 Nov 16 1 #179
I don't agree that these games are all sub-standard even in the slightest. Since Modern Warfare COD has just repeated the same formula over and over again. Let's not even begin with Fifa, Battlefield, Forza etc.

I would class 80-90% of the games released onto shelves as sub-standard as they are just copies of what came before. Better graphics do not necissarily make a more enjoyable game.

The real advances in story-telling, game design and game mechanics is happening on the indie scene. They are the only ones brave enough to try onto something completely different, it wont always work or be to everyone's tastes but at least they are trying.
