Never oiled a rachet in the 40 years I've used them, did however once break a 3" 3/4 drive socket using a t-bar, 12 foot scaffold pole and a chain block - although I think it was the shock from the 14lb sledgehammer that finally killed it (GE frame 5 compressor casing) :smiley:

Bought the aldi one, not a patch on Halford's professional but a handy set for the back of the car. the rachet sometimes sticks so will probably just get a decent rachet. The aldi one is the same brand, was cheaper, but maybe fewer pieces.

These are indeed a 3/8"drive ratchet.

I got one today, not 100% sure about the quality of the sockets, time will tell.
Ratchet seemed pretty good though.

You're right they're more often called powerfix, but they are the same factory and supplier. Lidl do on occasion have workzone also, as said im working there at nights when the shops shut atm. We often check non-food isles when we forget specific tools or just to check of cheap 'trow away' tools. By which I means tools we don't mind using when the thieving contractors are about, some guys are ****...

Whilst there is no dispute that Aldi sell product under the tradename of WorkZone, I must admit I have never seen that name sold in any Lidl store.

Lidl tend to use the names Parkside or Powerfix for their tools

Perhaps you could find a link on the Lidl website to any product they have ever sold under the WorkZone name to convince me otherwise?

(Admittedly they are just trade names - I would not dispute they all probably emanate out of the same Chinese factory)

Same here, what is it about 10mm that makes them keep wandering off?

If anyone's thinking of buying this set, be aware the sockets are of a universal ribbed type, like the Roebuck 'Unisocket'. While they may be useful, they are nowhere near as good at shifting a hex-headed fastener as a standard single hex socket, and have a tendency to damage the head if the fastener is tight.
If it's going to be your only set then I would recommend giving it a miss and going for something else.

PS, yes I always lose the 10mm, 12mm and 13mm sockets..

Work zone, I got a small socket/bit set from Alfi reduced to £2.49 then Lidl had them in at £3.99 month after. I do contracting work, been doing stuff at Lidl overnight so always take a look at there tools.

Workzone the most common branding for them both.

The ratchet in the set I bought from Aldi looks identical to this one from Lidl, now that I've looked again, it looks like the lidl set might be 1/2 drive - can't find details anywhere?

The set I bought in Aldi was a 46 piece 1/4 drive - and surprise surprise it's also badged as powerfix on other sites.

So both lidl and Aldi sell the powerfix socket sets - but I'm pretty sure these are all made in the Far East, aliexpress have loads of sellers of similar ratchets and similar sets.

So, back to the original question - no these are no where as good as halfords professional sets, but they still have a place - mine is in the boot of my car for emergencies, useful size and good selection of sockets, Torx, screwdriver bits, etc - my halfords professional and draper expert sets are in the garage for any maintenance work.

But I will still be replacing the ratchet in the Aldi set I bought - yes it has a 3 year warranty, but they'll replace it with the same type of cheap ratchet.

Anyone know what size drive these are?

surely theres no way these will compare to the halfords advanced professional range. those even come with lifetime warranty
