Many on Ebay don't have a earth lead attached so are dangerous, and they also don't quote the true wattage you might buy a 50w but its only 20w, i have had 2 fail so far, had to modify them so they were earthed, plenty of teardowns on youtube
You are also paying a bit more for a fully tested product and made up to the correct specifications as stated , not some dodgy knockoff from ebay
For me personally i think its worth paying a little bit more for a quality product, especially electrical items that could cause problems like electrocution of possibly a fire

it's not a similar price as the cheap ones but probably worth the premium.
I have the white version. Compact and well made. Quite bright. Comes with 30cm of flex. OK if you connect to a junction box. To replace the flex you have to dismantle the whole unit. There are about two dozen screws to remove.

50 watt is as good as a 500w Halogen - Osram - sold LED advance to china in September 2016.

Are the cheap ones on Ebay unreliable? I cam imagine the PIR ones may be. These used to stop working with the old halogen floodlights.
I suppose it depends on your use. I would switch these on occasionally or use them with a PIR, in which case a three year warranty (if that is what you are paying for) doesn't seem long, especially given that you can buy a PIR 20watt for £6-7 on ebay.
And a separate PIR would cost at least £7

I've now had 4 cheap pir versions die, but the 2 without pir have lasted 4 years so far.

Yeah, I stopped buying the "bargain" LEDs from eBay. They gave fantastic light output for around a month then ask died within a week.. Now using a mixture of the Lap from Screwfix and the V-Tacs from B&M, both with at least a 2 years warranty. might try one of these with the 20w rating to see how well they perform.

my sister has had 2 'Ansell' units fitted for some time now and are available for just under £20 for the 10w and £25 20w
(pir versions) http://www.anselluk.com/carina-led/ they seem decent and reliable
