Here are the details for the eShop Halloween sale for both Wii U and 3DS. The Sale starts on Thursday 20th October and runs until 3rd November.

I can't claim credit for the formatting - that accolade belongs to the gentlemen at Nintendo Life (http://www.nintendolife.com/news/2016/10/nintendo_download_20th_october_europe).

I'll put the links in the first post. Some good deals in here - especially on Virtual Console - and some pretty poor prices for some games available elsewhere in the mix, too.

Why offer a decent discount? Nintendo fans have been buying the same games for almost 30 years! I say that as someone who bought Mario 64 at least 4 times...

20 Oct 16 1 #72
NX might very well be their all or nothing to gain the trust of customers they lost for years and their very own fans too. Nintendo tricked me into thinking that the Wii U was going to be an awesome hardcore console with third party support from what they said on E3 and then.. yeah, nothing close to what they advertised.

This is probably it. The console generations are becoming weak PCs (at least last generation games could be played by simply inserting the disc) so Ninty needs to use all they have.

Oh, there's no issue here. They only go live at about 3pm today. eShop deals only go live on Thursday afternoons.

19 Oct 16 #68
Yeah, I appreciate that - I was just making the point that BC functionality can't necessarily be assumed, especially so if the rumours about the NX being cartridge-based rather than using discs turn out to be true. Still, we can hope!
Spasho
19 Oct 16 #67
They couldn't offer BC N64 on NGC since it was a disc-based console so if anything, they'd need to release an external adapter for it. Nintendo did that for GB-GBA games on NGC.
Illusionary
19 Oct 16 #66
"Always" is a bit of a stretch. It's only really with their recent consoles that we've seen this, and then only by one generation (other than via the VC).

NES > SNES > N64 > GC had no backwards-compatibility at all.
Their handheld systems have been somewhat more consistent on this, but still not wholly so.
prankster101
19 Oct 16 1 #65
Yeah, those Castlevania prices are tasty... But alas, they're only on Wii U. Would rather have preferred to have had them on the 3DS.

Really do wish Nintendo sort out their Super Nintendo releases on n3DS. So many classics, and yet they release them on the Wii U instead.

Still hoping that Final Fantasy 3 gets released...

Sorry, you've edited your post. I replied with a facetious response because I thought you were being facetious - so apologies for that if you saw it.

Yeah, there are some shockers in there but I suppose Nintendo have to avoid sullying their physical releases with decent digital prices. Not a great state of affairs but those Atlus and Castlevania games look tasty.
prankster101
19 Oct 16 1 #63
To be fair, most of the "crappy prices" are actually from Nintendo themselves.
Mccy_McFlinn
19 Oct 16 #62
I would argue that there are a few (and only a few) good prices for games in here - just a large number of crappy prices, too. Perhaps I could have been selective rather than printing the whole lot but who am I to editorialise?
prankster101

You've got admire the Nintendo Defence Force... Some of the worst prices in recent memory, and this "deal" still shows up in the Top 3 Gaming category deals for today.

jsty3105
19 Oct 16 #59
Your example isn't a great one. Average price is bit more than a fiver - http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=zombiu+wii+u&LH_Complete=1&LH_Sold=1&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1313.TR1.TRC0.A0.H0.Xzombi+u+wii+u.TRS0&_nkw=zombi+u+wii+u&_sacat=0 and those are for listings that start at 0.99. Think the cheapest price for it is £6 from Cex.

But if you do want to complain about Zombi U's Halloween sale price on the Nintendo eShop, your ire would be better directed at Ubisoft because they're the ones setting that sale price.
Spasho
19 Oct 16 #58
It's not known what the NX will be exactly but Nintendo has always offered backwards compatibility so I don't see them ditching it this time around. Although, games that require the GamePad would need another method to be played.

E.g. Sonic Lost World requires the GamePad but on the PC version they made it playable with a normal controller.
Spasho
19 Oct 16 #57
It's a good idea to trade in the Wii U but the games, you should keep them because you might want to play them again in time or their value increases (if you're into that).

http://venturebeat.com/2015/07/09/ubisoft-explains-why-digital-game-prices-stay-so-high-for-so-long-on-consoles/

"“Digital games don’t react as fast on console as they do on PC,” said Guillemot. “What we can say is that when games are older than one year, digital is a lot more dynamic on console because there are less units in stores. It’s a new business and new trend.”

And keeping the pressure on physical sales is really important for Ubisoft.

“We want to get rid of the stocks in stores before lowering the price on digital,” said Guillemot.

So that $20 penalty you’re paying for downloading a game is really all about inventory management for the publisher. It needs to keep retailers happy so they don’t regret placing big orders for Ubisoft games. That ensures they’ll come back to make big orders in the future as well."

You might be better off contacting Nintendo support for help rather than asking random strangers on a deal website.

https://nintendoservicecentre.co.uk

If it's under warranty then they will be able to help you, or else just return it to wherever you bought it from as it's obviously a defective unit.

apart from the Nintendo published titles, all of the other game prices weren't set by Nintendo.

If you're going to rant about those prices, complain to the respective developer/publisher.

having said that, I do wish Nintendo published titles would have deeper price cuts during sales.

Good for you, your wrong obviously but its always worth a punt.

Put on the rose tinted a few times and bought some of the 3ds vc games and the bare bones nature of the vc versions always left me a little cold. Snes Castlevania? no. You can find the vastly superior Castlevania ds games on ebay cheaper.

The other prices are tres meh as others have mentioned. And just once again the only real pick is Shin megami Overclocked for £10.

Christ, Nintendo sales are the worst. It shouldn't be a surprise as they're still charging £50 for digital downloads of games when it makes absolutely no sense for digital games to be more expensive than boxed copies. Maybe the NX will have a more realistic pricing strategy.

You can't please all of the people all of the time...

Ok, some games in the list have received pitiful discounts, still retailing at a near RRP, but, can we look at the positives - just for a minute? A good dozen or so absolute essential games you can pick up for under a fiver in this sale...Aria of Sorrow, Super Castlevania, Super Ghouls N Ghosts, Ghost N Goblins, Year Walk. I'll be seriously considering all of them.

Nintendo obviously could make their eShop deals a lot more appealing and cheaper but thanks to Pokémon Go, 3DS and all the profitable ways they have to make money they didn't put much effort here.

So many Castlevania games....I have no idea where to start....
Has anyone played Pandora's Tower? Is it worth picking up?

It turns out that the Nintendo store does not have pages for most of these games (even first party ones) so many links will go to the Nintendo Life page (apologies if this contravenes any rules). It's best to buy these games through the Wii U or 3DS consoles anyway.
