Ok i travelled from Dundee to Glasgow Airport a few days ago, as soon as i typed in the address for the airport it automatically calculated the route and told me my first direction.
It also displays (either one) distance to go, time, mph, estimated arrival time etc, as for satellites it took only a mere 30 seconds for it to aquire them, longer (abut 50 sec) if your traveliing at the same time you switch it on.
It ounds to me that the Garmin is not so good, i have had this Navman F20 for a few weeks now and its never let me down, the only 2 downsides i have found is that the speaker volume isnt very loud and the battery power doesnt last very long (but long enough), i prefer to hook it up to the cig lighter to charge while on the move.

Question for those who have used this - does it work well when starting out your journey? I ask because with my Garmin i3, when you first start your journey, it takes a while to get satellites and route, but once it does route, it doesn't make it very clear where you are at first. The voice doesn't tell you what to do until you start traveling, and often it thinks you're driving a different way on the road at first. I find that getting started is the only hard thing with the i3.

me i prefer straight road maps as it looks better and ive never ever had a problem with the tele atls 2006 directions, it really depends on your taste tho.

12 Nov 06#141
Thanks clay...I must say I'm not so concerned about what the maps look like ..I'm more concerned that the sat nav does what it says on the tin and is reliable.
My choice was limited as I wanted full detailed European maps as my son will be using it mostly in Europe..so that's the main reason for the Tom Tom purchase.

12 Nov 06#140
curry been into halfords today & think the Navman maps look better but everyone say get the TT one..... i think the updates for the TT One are cheaper also.

12 Nov 06#139
clay..I think it's a case of going into a retailer ..like Halfords/PCworld and having a demo of the ones on your shortlist and going from there.
I have just ordered the TT One (version 2) Europe from Dixons ...there are some codes on a post on this site and 2.5% quidco cashback...the TT One (version 2) has not long been released so I assume the mapping is bang up to date.
As with anything else it's all a matter of taste.
Sorry clay I now see that you posted the Dixons deals ...thanks very much

Sorry i did reply, .... well i thought is replied but my computer kind of went on theblink just after i had typed it in lol
Ok get the navman f20, i have it and it is SUPERB
if you buy any other system just now they wont have updated the maps yet, the F20 had the newest, freshest maps at the moment.
also the difference between the graphics of the 2 is really obvious, the tom tom has squigly lines for roads insted of the navmans straight better graphics.
Honestly the Navman wins hands down, iv had both these systems and i really didnt like the tomtom because of they 2 issues, also the navman is lightweight and can be put in your pocket for carrying about.
you really wont be dissapointed matey.

What a bunch of crooks. I had my order planned for shipment, then when I emailed to request the price adjustment, they immediately write back and say that they cancelled my order due to insufficient stock! So my order just happens to get cancelled as soon as I request the price adjustment??? Sounds fake to me.
Then they say they're getting more stock in a week but they don't know what the price will be of that stock (I can tell you what the price will be - 150). If they are getting more stock then why didn't they just keep my order?
Oh well, I now know eBuyer is a crap store.

Right ok i went to dundee today and yes all roads HAVE been updated which is really good also means no arrow jumping due to out of date mapping from tele atlas.
The slight problem i had tho was the volume doesnt go loud enough, this wont be a problem if you have your radio down or cd player but to be honest who has there music right down.
One other thing that kinda bugs me (but will be fixed when i push up a power cable from the back of the cigarette lighter) is that the battery power doesnt last for long. Mines is charging just now and im going to leave it on all night so hopefully that will give it the boost of charge it needs.
Apart from those 2 niggly things its great, im well glad (which i was really wanting) that the maps have been updated

Everything went good, system seems to be really good, just havent tried it at a new set of roads yet, will try that tomorrow.
One thing ill say is that you cant scan the roads with your finger like you could in the other products, meaning, on map mode when you put your finger on the screen you cant move the map left, right etc with the touch of the finger.
Apart from that its a well good system, cant wait to try it on the dundee new road tomorrow and see if the road has been updated (fingers crossed)

Ebuyer are useless i ordered the Navman F20 when it cost £99.99 then they cancelled my order. The excuse they used was the card address didnt match the home address which is total rubbish it has always been registered at this address. Anyways when i phone up to query them they said there is nothing they can do about it and i will have to purchase it again at full price how useless are they. They probably just did it for publicity listing it for £99.99 then they cancel everybodys orders and make them pay full price which is still cheaper than everywhere else at the mo.

I wish they would come out with a unit that has a lazer detecter for speed cameras on it aswell, my front of my dash is going to look well packed with a road angel compact (which is for mostly the lazer guns as it has the attachment on it) and a bloomin navman now sitting at the side.

6 Oct 06#42
Edi how is the roads on yours? when you come to a new road does the arrow jump off screen like what mine did?
I must point out tho that the updates for new maps to be installed doesnt come cheap, think they were selling for between £70 and £100
Why so dear i dont understand but hey thats the australians for you lol
To keep in touch with new updates or to get poi's or for the latest -Camera database (from which you need to be a member plus a £2 payment for a months downloads)- go to this site, i was very pleased with them altho it does take a wee while to answer your querys on there forums. http://www.pocketgpsworld.com/
edi to saxo_appeal
6 Oct 06#43
I didnt have the problem of 'arrow jumping' so far, although absence of one-way recognising is very common. Investing £100 on a new GPS unit is worthy compared to spending the same money on updates.
saxo_appeal
6 Oct 06#40
ok it will be navman that are installing the camera database, but to be safe get a cable because there are cameras going up new everywhere and you dont want to be caught out with and old database (better be on the safe side)
As for the t1 traffic pack, this is an add on that allows the user to avoid traffic conjestion, it then redirects you away from the scene in enought time, personally id wait till it comes down in price as its at £100 or more at the moment
In my experience with this all you need to do is go another direction when you come up to the traffic jam and the Navman will get you back on track and maybe avoid the cue.
This comes with 2006 new installed maps so hoepfully fingerscrossed more streets will be accessible on it, unlike the navman 530 i had which the arrow sometimes jumped off the screen as i came to a new road it didnt have installed.

Hi, Think that you might be right there but not 100% on this. One of the resellers that i'd checked earlier this evening did say that a database is pre-installed but that could be because they've pre-installed themselves. Not really sure like I say.

Hmmmm.... eBays policy. Think that I dislike just about every aspect of eBay, their sheer disinterest in removing unfair or otherwise unjustified negative feedback being foremost. The fact that they own PayPal being another reason why I dislike them. Anyway, don't want to sound bitter. eBay works for a lot of people (an under-estimation really as they're a highly successful business) just wish that Google or some other company with good ethics would give them a good run for their money. Don't think i'm the only one who feels this way. Shame eBid aren't as successful.

Hi
i managed to get one for 99.99 with 1.50 back from quid co.
Thanks edi :stuck_out_tongue:
p.s quick note but this doesn`t appear to include the usb and drivers needed to connect to your pc, hence you can`t add poi`s unless you have it. i.e speed cameras.:-(

WTF I am so upset because I placed 4 orders and they kept getting cancelled. I called them and waited 20 minutes on hold until they finally said it was because I was using a US credit card. Then I re-order with my UK card and now they charge me wrong.
What kind of rights do we have to this? I printed out screenshots of when I checked out that shows 99.99.

Charging for a link to eBuyer is ludicrous - really is. Really do dislike eBay on occasions. Come on Google get an eBay equivalent up and running!.
A little concerned that this product has a 200MHz XScale Processor. Is this powerful enough for a GPS?. Thought that a lot of equivalent GPS on the market were based on a 300MHz XScale Processor. But i'm not really qualified to comment as I don't know enough about this kit.

This is one of the best Navman GPS unit with a large 3.5" TOUCH SCREEN. Other units such ICN310, 320 or 330 require you to use navigation keys to enter every function. Navman F20 has a FULL 8 digit post code search (rest have only a max 5 digit search).

Description: The Navman F20, is the first in the new Freedom range. The F20, provides you with a lot for very little. Loaded with features normally found in other, more expensive car navigators, the F20 packs them all into a neat, pocket-sized compact unit. Its the advanced features that separate the F20 from other entry-level navigators. The Nearest Parking and Petrol buttons, previously only found on our more expensive models, are a simple but brilliant idea, exclusive to Navman

My choice was limited as I wanted full detailed European maps as my son will be using it mostly in Europe..so that's the main reason for the Tom Tom purchase.
I have just ordered the TT One (version 2) Europe from Dixons ...there are some codes on a post on this site and 2.5% quidco cashback...the TT One (version 2) has not long been released so I assume the mapping is bang up to date.
As with anything else it's all a matter of taste.
Sorry clay I now see that you posted the Dixons deals ...thanks very much
you wont like the squigly graphics :-D
Ok get the navman f20, i have it and it is SUPERB
if you buy any other system just now they wont have updated the maps yet, the F20 had the newest, freshest maps at the moment.
also the difference between the graphics of the 2 is really obvious, the tom tom has squigly lines for roads insted of the navmans straight better graphics.
Honestly the Navman wins hands down, iv had both these systems and i really didnt like the tomtom because of they 2 issues, also the navman is lightweight and can be put in your pocket for carrying about.
you really wont be dissapointed matey.
when i entered the promo code it states that i have enter a 10% discount code, but it never took it of the total, unless it does after you enter your card details (which i didn't want to go that far ....but quidco will get you 4% anyway.

Ebuyer shouldnt be allowed to do this.
phone them up when they open again and ask to speak to higher authority like a supervisor,
tell them this isnt on and it shouldnt have mattered blah blah etc etc :x
this goes for everyone else who never got their navman, dont speak to the monkey - speak to the organ grinder
still tho all that stock that sold should have been all accounted for ??it shouldnt have mattered tho if you wanted it later or not, you should have still got it as the amount they sold should have been put to the side
Who all never got theres then ??
we could send a letter of complaint off to them, it might work and get everyone there sat nav
Then they say they're getting more stock in a week but they don't know what the price will be of that stock (I can tell you what the price will be - 150). If they are getting more stock then why didn't they just keep my order?
Oh well, I now know eBuyer is a crap store.
I just sent them a nasty eNote about it, not that they will care obviously.

Apart from those 2 niggly things its great, im well glad (which i was really wanting) that the maps have been updated
has everyone got theirs yet ??
One thing ill say is that you cant scan the roads with your finger like you could in the other products, meaning, on map mode when you put your finger on the screen you cant move the map left, right etc with the touch of the finger.
Apart from that its a well good system, cant wait to try it on the dundee new road tomorrow and see if the road has been updated (fingers crossed)
everything going good.
Got mine just half an hour ago, what i can say is that its really small compared to all the other major sat navs out there, buttons will take some time getting used to.
Little nifty peice of equipment tho folks, you will be glad you got one
Ill let you know how i go when i take it for a test drive. :stuck_out_tongue:

Not surprised that the banged the price back up.
Thanks edi.
I wish they would come out with a unit that has a lazer detecter for speed cameras on it aswell, my front of my dash is going to look well packed with a road angel compact (which is for mostly the lazer guns as it has the attachment on it) and a bloomin navman now sitting at the side.
Is that the site you use Edi for updates? wish they would have more p.o.i's for scotland tho
