It actually performs very well comparing to RX 480 4GB

The price is heading in the right direction but for me these need to be around the £150 mark. The RX 480 was around this price when it came out before suppliers started profiteering.
(Cue Brexit... £ drop... yada... yada...)

Yeah, absolutely plenty... definitely no downsampling of textures owing to insufficient VRAM at 1080p.
How are those Nvidia shares doing post Brexit Nate?

i think overclockers are a bit scummy the way they up there prices every hour, silly silly prices would never buy from them

Got anything constructive, or baseless insults the only thing you are going to add to this discussion?
I am a video card enthusiast, that's all. I would read up on what you are suggesting, if you had a link that describe the issue and what graphics settings were involved.

I would spend extra £20 and get 6GB. 3GB is not future proof.

I'd take the 1060 3gb over both of these. The memory management is absolutely great on the NVIDIA cards and 3gb is plenty at 1080p.

It's excuses because the 470 4gb was priced that way before June 23rd (Brexit).
And this is a price *drop* from the initial pricing of 199.99.
US prices don't include tax, that is correct, but at the time the pound was 1.5 dollars. The card was initially priced at $199 dollars, to convert that into £199 pounds, you need to find a $100 increase from that.
20% vat, 10% 'extra' should have only been £175 quid at launch.
That was the day one pricing scheme. It never happened.

Except Tomb Raider, Forza, and Total War.
I mean, there are not that many DX12 games, really. It's a toss up, Ashes, Hitman, and Deus Ex favor AMD.
I just don't want to suggest that AMD have done anything 'right' with DX12, more so, their DX11 performance was so terrible, that the differences we are seeing between 11 and 12 for AMD are due entirely to how poorly DX11 was done and how much less work they had to do for some of the DX12 titles to be competent.

No, at stock clocks the 480 isn't faster than the 6GB 1060 in DX12 in any game except for Hitman. In other DX12 games it can be behind by as much as 20-25%.
(The 1060 tends to overclock better, too, so should pull even further ahead, but that's per-card dependent.)
Excuses? What do you mean? In the UK there's always been a higher price for US goods than in the US. I'm not sure where "10%" came from, but it sounds roughly right to me. MSRPs are for reference cards - how is that an excuse? US prices don't include tax - how is that an excuse? The pound has plummeted this year - how is that an excuse?
What is funny is that there's a 4GB 480 linked above at AMD's listed $200 price, but I can't find a $380 GTX 1070 (the 970 replacement) in stock anywhere in the States today. Must be Nvidia lying about pricing, right?
Or are you applying different standards to different companies? I wonder why that is...

I didn't say the 470 beats the 1060 and the 480 does perform better with DX12 than Nvidia, we see it time and time again in game benchmarks when you play the DX12 build... apart from that the 1060 is usually in front.

The 470 sits in its own little bubble where it has no Nvidia match, it's more powerful than a 1050ti, less powerful than a 1060... which will have 3GB of Vram at the price range when you really need 4 to max every setting out at 1080p. So the 470 is a good option if you find the right deal and it'll handle DX12 way better.
The 480 is the 1060 6GB rival and they'll trade blows per game, but it wins out in DX12 by miles... which is something to keep an eye on for the future. I got mine for £180 on sale so it's an amazing card to get on a sale.
I really think the base cards are 470 4GB and 1060 6GB if you want to be maxing stuff out... but there is a big price difference there. I wouldn't worry about more than 4GB at 1080p, I have 8GB in the 480 and you just don't use more than 4 at that resolution with every setting maxed. If you try to do 8xMSAA in Max Payne 3 or super sampling in GTA V to make use of it, the frame rate tanks any ways.

What? The 470 4gb doesn't compare to the 1060 6gb at all.
just remember that's actually supposed to be the reference one, it's without tax, and we pay about 10% extra on top of what the USA would usually, plus Brexit now this year.

It's kinda funny how much of a lie the pricing of these cards came with.
AMD was calling their pricing style to be $100-$199. Looks a lot more like $199-$299.

Agreed these are overpriced £150 is right for me but I couldn't wait so I went with the next best value for money/perf the evga superclocked 1060 6gb, the 480 is also overpriced and no small card with decent cooler, more power usage and needing to up power limit to get advertised speeds seamed a bit dishonest and pushes the power usage up over 150w the nitro card is upwords of 250w, my 1060 overclocked to 2100mhz stable is 137-142w and smokes the 480 nitro.
the 3gb is a joke, so the only real contest was the 1060 6gb or the 4gb 470 dependant on price and perf, the 470 would have done me at £150 and if I could power it for the same 120w but with amd failing on the price for me the next best value for money was the 1060 6gb, which was cheaper than the 8gb 480 even if it hadn't the best option was still the 1060.
If the 480 8gb had been £185-£200 and below 150w with advertised speeds maybe, maybe, but I still don't think there's a 480 for those specs, the NVidia card was more efficient and more powerful and the evga SC was small form with am awesome cooler priced at £238.

The 1060 3gb stomps the 470 4gb as well.

Same company, nearing 20% better than the 470 4gb... Its just not in the same league.
8xMSAA shouldn't be a problem, try SSAA.
Also, the 480 doesn't win in DX12, it trades blows depending on which game.
Nvidia are pumping out better, cheaper, cards that fit this price range.
