Any customs fees will be paid back to you by Lightinthebox to your paypal account - no more worrying about getting stung by duties!
After reading online people find it quick and easy to be paid back the customs charges without any fuss - this may be the future of Chinese phone buying!

This phone is a power bank and a phone in one. It charges other devices and has 2-3 days battery time. This phone will stand a full day of abuse without running out of juice and trumps my Elephone P8000 with 50% more capacity!

TO GET FOR THIS PRICE:
1. Open a new incognito tab
2. Go to http://www.topcashback.co.uk and search for Lightinthebox - click to buy from this supplier
3. You need to add the phone from post #1 in either gold, silver, or grey (I went for grey!)
4. Add £1.41 of extra items to bring the price up to £105 - I've put a couple of USB cables in post #1 if you can't be bothered to look!
5. Go to checkout and choose 'Postal Expedited' for around £8.
6. Add Add Duty & Tax Insurance to your order for £2.95 (If you'd rather risk it don't bother adding!)
7. Apply coupon code of GOLD1615 (there's a difficult to see hyperlink saying 'Apply Coupon Code')

Mine's gone bad. Charging didn't seem to be as good as usual last week, and now the internal speaker has died. (Bluetooth/audio socket still works). And charging it is very difficult - no fast charge at all. Dammit.

Big hit here (so far). Charging OK (both charger and phone get quite hot); memory and performance bargain for the price. Need to work out how to turn on notification light for received SMS/email.

In other news, I'm also underwhelmed by both the front and back camera. Most of the photos I have taken using this Christmas have received the same feedback - 'Oh nice I remember that, I have a better quality photo of it if you want me to send it to you'. All things considered, for me, this has not been a big hit.

Mine is pap.
Have to very carefully plug in charger and prop it against something to put a bit of pressure on the wire to ensure it charges. Borderline useless. Forget about using it while on charge or charging in a car etc. Hope most of you aren't suffering the same issue.
The age old addage I guess, you get what you pay for (or don't in this case). Buying from abroad is great when it's works, when it doesn't it's just a money pit.

Topcashback has already been paid so can't fault Lightinthebox and this deal in the end so thanks again OP.
Noticed a bit of an issue with battery charging taking longer recently and there've been a couple of OTA updates including one today to fix "battery charging bug" which I hope will sort it out.

Strange - have you tried wiping the cache & data for the browser apps? If you've installed TWRP you could backup then try a factory reset. Failing that, you could try manually flashing the v10 ROM which isn't yet available OTA.

Running v9 which the wireless update app says is the most up to date. Happens with WiFi and mobile data. Confirmed GPS fix with toolbox app, app based location works fine, just the stock, chrome and opera browsers don't. Firefox does work however. As said previously, all permissions granted etc... I can get it to work after rebooting but then it stops again within 5 mins or so.

Which ROM are you on? Does this happen with wifi and data connections? When you say you've turned on all location services I assume that includes GPS and you've confirmed you have a GPS fix with the GPS Status & Toolbox app https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.eclipsim.gpsstatus2&hl=en_GB

Update for my phone not charging to 100% problem - I did a full wipe & downgraded to the v9 ROM which seems to have fixed it. There was another issue with the battery indicator showing it was charging when it wasn't but this seems to have come on after flashing xposed framework so I'm sticking with the v9 ROM and no xposed!

Completely different animal to an iPhone, the iPhone 6 battery is 1810mah, so just 30% the capacity of the Oukitel, it's probably more energy efficient though and much lighter and thinner.
iPhones are very good, it's just whether it's worth the hefty price tag if you can cope with using a lesser Android device.
The iPhone 6 was £550 at launch and each new one is around the same so if the TCB pays out okay it's near 6X the price for the Apple phone. Value for money this is very good, it's just whether the convenience, build quality etc are worth the extra on the iPhone upon reflection.

Refund for customs charge issued, not received in PayPal account yet though.

The phone itself is reasonable, just gonna take a while to get used to coming from an iPhone 6. only downsides are that its big and heavy, and takes forever to charge (currently on 11% from 0% after charging for an hour with a 5V/4A output charger). The battery lasted just over 24 hours from 100% with heavy usage and 9 hours sleep.

Also just thought about PayPal/Credit card.
How did you pay? If on credit card you could be covered if there is a big ordeal, I've read users saying they can't send the phone back because it has a battery and it's not allowed to be shipped?
http://www.moneysupermarket.com/credit-cards/guide-to-credit-card-protection/

If you paid by PayPal could there be some room for a refund there?

Just another avenue to consider.

Really sorry to hear you got unlucky with yours.
I've never had anything faulty before so can't comment on returning things. I've read that there's various different arrangements, none of which are particularly good and involve either some expense, an extremely long wait, or both.
It looks as though you pay for returns:
http://www.lightinthebox.com/knowledge-base/c1028/a3012.html

Parcel2Go are 'from £18.51", not sure how competitive that is, but I'm assuming you wouldn't see that again, so if you deduct the insurance and postage costs which I don't think you will get back you're not looking at much. Some sellers try to offer a reduced refund if you've done any wear and tear, they may argue this if you've changed software on the phone so watch out.
I'd personally ask them how much they will refund you for before you sent it because you may end up being better off just putting it on eBay and seeing what you can get for it. At least you're not waiting for forever for what might end up being a paltry refund and a pain in the neck at the same time.
Parcel2Go link:
https://www.parcel2go.com/parcel-delivery/china

Sorry I can't help anymore, maybe another user can share advice also?
I've always assumed worse case scenarios when I've bought I.e. Getting charged customs and phone being faulty, but I've always got lucky.
Let us know how you get on.

6 Nov 16 #246
Mine is a dud - it won't charge in spite of reflashing the stock ROM and trying a combo of different cables & chargers, including the stock cable which has an extra long tip. The battery indicator shows it is charging but the battery % just keeps going slowly down. I assume that LITB's returns procedure will be full of hassle and expense.

Also try a different charger.
Also try a different charging lead.

Has anyone noticed how hideously long these take to charge? I haven't got one of those newfangled rapid chargers, I'm using an old Ipad charger, but over 8 hours and counting... Unfortunately Escortboy, as I had raised an earlier ticket enquiring about the phone, I would not let me raise another ticket, quite odd.
So I improvised and added the details to the bottom of the last information I gave them about the phone now delivered. I also notice that she you select the photo of the invoice for that Customs duty paid, it does not upload the picture, so not sure as I did not see the picture on the screen. I paid £37. 32.

RE refunding charges:
Duty & Tax Insurance
We provide Duty & Tax Insurance service for any purchase and can be checked when placing an order.
If you pay for the Duty & Tax Insurance when you placed an order and were charged a tax fee when the package arrived, we'll be glad to refund 100% tax fee. Please tell us what was the total amount of the tax fee you were charged by submitting a new "Ask about customs duties" ticket with a copy of the invoice at that time, and we'll refund the amount you were charged.
Please note that we will not refund any tax fee if you haven't purchased the Insurance for Duty & Tax for this order.

Funny how when you wish to escalate a complaint, they sit up and listen. As at 10:10am this morning they confirmed my phone was at the UPS warehouse, it was not delivered yesterday as promised and delivery between 1pm-5pm today with apologies.
Their call centre atrocious, as the lady I spoke to yesterday was not helpful when I went looking for the phone all she said was that I should speak to my supplier. Phone delivered now, I'm happy as Larry. Just need to

Morning Peeps, the saga continues with the missing phone from UPS on a premium rate number. Yesterday I was told to contact my supplier for another tracking number for the phone when I reported it missing, today I spoke to Roland asking for the manager to get back to me as this was a serious issue, missing phone and taxes paid for delivery of a memory card that did not attract taxes.

Guess what, they check their records and can say my item not delivered!! But will get the depot to call me. I will not rest till I get my phone. They have to locate it in their warehouse!!

Escortboy, you are a minefield of knowledge, thanks for this information.
Tomorrow I shall be making a complaint to UPS, no receipt, No invoice from LITB in the package delivered, methinks my package may have been compromised. Delivery should have beenfrom UPS , sadly not so. When I raised the issue with the hapless driver, he said it would be coming with another driver, when I phoned the UPS office, they said nay!! To take it up with LITB which I promptly did. I guess an investigation in order from both sides of the Atlantic for the missing mobile as I'm sure LITB will say both items sent, yet I have no proof, not even on the envelope does it have a weight for the item. Shocking!! Will keep u updated on my saga!!

Try this link out:
https://m.dutycalculator.com

If you've paid a single price for postage then I'm not sure how it works because the calculator needs insurance and delivery costs included. You can't put the full postage cost on each delivery because you've only paid it once so therefore it would be recording postage twice.

I phoned up when I got charged import duty/VAT from the states because I'd used a discount code and they had overvalued the items on the declaration.

DHL and I think revenue and customs I spoke with. They were really good about it and told me to forward my invoice, they refunded me what I had overpaid so they are flexible when they've got things wrong.

You should be fine if they're sending anything under $25? That's the threshold before you get charged by customs iirc. They will refund you any charges though if you bought the insurance so you won't be out of pocket regardless.

I don't think the length of time since the last post changes the fact that there was suspicious activity with reviews and payment info.

In any case, judging by the customs charges it's not worth the hassle in getting it a couple of quid cheaper. You can purchase it on Ebay via Paypal and be assured that you can get your money back easily in case things go wrong. No such guarantee with these guys except a few tidbits of anecdotal evidence to say they've done well for some customers.

The most recent post in the forum you linked is over 3 years ago...

To back up what Escortboy has said it looks like LightInTheBox have kinda fluffed their lines in this case, this was the first deal of theirs that got posted on HotUKDeals and perhaps it caught them with their pants down in terms stock?

I've been using them for months and not had any issues, personally I just like the idea of the shipping tax insurance.

I've used GearBest and Banggood in the past and not had a problem, but I think that the performance from these guys compounded with the link you posted mean I won't be buying from them again.

It's a shame because they could have made a lot of money from HUKD if they had brought their a-game and promptly delivered the phones.

Sounds like, they don't have enough staff in the warehouse to get the orders out, the phone is in stock but because they're so flooded with orders they haven't got round to it yet.
Maybe that's why there's 20 days processing time, they have less staff than they should have to keep costs down and the delivery time is the thing that suffers.

There's that old adage: do you want it fast, cheap or good quality? Pick two.

I think it's unfair to blame HUKD, they have given this retailer a chance to try and increase the number of deals for us as a community and on this occasion it's not panned out how it should have done.
Reviews online and as good as other Chinese retailers, they're a massive organization and the customs insurance is excellent for peace of mind about the certainty of the price you will pay.

Let's frame this around the processing time which is 20 days, this time hasn't even elapsed yet, they've set an earlier expected despatch date that they've missed - if they had set the 20 business days that you saw when you ordered and agreed to comply with you wouldn't have any grievance with them.

So in short HUKD have been accommodating in allowing this retailer as a trial and should be praised for being progressive and widening our choice. Lightinthebox shouldn't set dates which they can't achieve as it creates expectations for the customer, which results in disappointment.

Make sense of this!

Dear Customer,

This is Customer Service Supervisor Alex. I sincerely apologize for what has happened and all of the inconveniences caused. I will follow up this case and resolve the issue, in order to meet your satisfaction.

Thank you for your email.

We checked the order and it shows that items are already in stock, but due to unexpected order increased in sharp we failed to ship it out as scheduled, we had already arranged the work shift in warehouse to work 24 hours a day. At the time we are sorry we are unable to offer a certain date when the order will be shipped but we will try the best to pack it and ship it out as soon as possible.

Sorry again for the inconvenience but we do thank you for your support and understanding in advance.

Sincerely,
LightInTheBox Customer Service

So you contacted them and they just shut it down? Contact PayPal and request refund?
They have good feedback across the internet, as good as others in the industry. They uniquely refund you customs duty which is a big concern to buyers of Chinese smartphones.
I'm just sitting tight as I have with any other Chinese phone because it does take a while I've learnt over the years.
If you want to pay 20% more for a phone you can get it from the UK from Amazon or eBay, the slower delivery time is the trade off.
Sorry if I sound like I'm backing them up, but i just feel that you're angry mostly about the time, which was stated.

(side comment: device came with a screen protector - nice touch, and included spares in the box). I find the thickness exactly right - not so thin that it feels delicate. i just compared it to the iphone se - i guess the oukitell is a millimetre or two thicker, but not so much i would notice. I dont bother with cases - i just make sure never to put the device into a pocket or bag with anything that can scratch (keys, other devices, pens). it has metallic sides and plastic back (I have a gray one). YMMV. Yes - it would be thicker with a case (cant recall if it came with a case in the box). For blokes, fits nicely in a jacket pocket. You can put it in a shirt pocket, but its tall enough to stick out (not enough to fall out, unless you are bending over). It feels like a phone, unlike the samsung s5, which feels plasticy/like a toy.

Its all very subjective.

iOS is another ecosystem and for some the iPhone processor is far beyond anything else at the moment so speed and efficient. I can understand why people buy it or because they don't like android.

But why would anyone buy other more expensive android phones? Like a Samsung, those new Google phones or even a one plus three. It's the same ecosystem, most of those have smaller batteries, similar screen, camera units from the same manufacturer etc. That's just throwing money away.

Yes - I have a 128GB card in mine - I see *no* reason the 200GB or 256GB (very expensive) cards cant be used either. The size limit seems to be an accident of advertising; I dont think marketeers read their own write ups - just copy/paste from everyone else.

To be honest - I dont use the speakers. It is loud/loud-enough - eg when I have booted the phone and started games with sound enabled. I have to disable sound, because I can never tell whose phone is beeping or alerting. Qualitywise - seems good, almost certainly perfect for voice calls. Not sure I would want any small device to play music tho.

(One thing I like in this device - not sure if its Oukitel or Android 6, but finally you can turn on/off the phone overnight - something blackberries could always do). I *think* having location services and Androidwear on, drains the battery fast, e.g. about 1d of battery time. Am experimenting with this off, because this seems to give the multiday battery life.

(Also turn off in the options setting "Wifi always on"; no idea why thats a default, but I fear it can help drain the battery when you are not near an access point).

Huawei P9: secondhand hand goes for ~£200 - someone in this thread bought one today, so they are still available from time to time: Huawei P9 (like new) Titanium Grey 32GB - o2 Refresh - £192.00

Xiaomi Mi5 - international/global version rom only if possible

Got one from eBay on "best offer" a couple of months ago. Wife has iPhone SE and laughs at this, but battery life, screen size, RAM, ROM and dual sim are amazing for the price.

Really impressed with build quality, and the metal frame.

It isn't the thinnest, or the lightest, but as a "real man" I can cope with the extra weight.

Would recommend the phone highly.

I was considering the Moto G4 too
tumbleweed34
7 Oct 16 #57
The specs look very good for the price, but importing to a noob like me is a little daunting.

Go for this or buy something like the Moto G4 when there's a price drop?

I've currently got the a 1st gen Moto G and it's still working okay, but is a bit lacking. I have no immediate need to upgrade, so what would you recommend I do?

Does it come with a proper warranty (one that doesn't involve sending it back to China)?

Is it updateable to newer versions of Android without having to root it?

TIA.

Simplest way I found was to download an app called Malwarebytes from the Google Play Store... I bought that Pepsi phone from BangGood couple of months back and found it to have 7 hidden malware/spyware virus' baked in to the stock apps, I managed to get rid of 6 of them by rooting it and flashing a cleaner version of the ROM but one is stuck cause it's in the actual launcher and I haven't had time to look in to getting rid of it just yet. I would be interested in knowing what you find. Thanks.

Of course. My comment would be pretty irrelevant otherwise.

I had to buy the insurance mind.

I got the money back before I even paid it out. I just scanned and sent the delivery slip that was left and had £36.39 scribbled on it. I got another the next day with nothing on it. I could have written any figure and got it back potentially.

I wasn't best pleased about paying it though. They said cash only so I gave (UPS) £40. We don't have change they said.......

LITB declared the value as $150 which is more than the £105 price it was up for. So I got stung more than was fair. They should declare value in £ and after any discount. This might help keep the insurance cost down.

Comes with case.

Takes 2 sims or 1 plus micro SD.

Ive had this phone for a couple of months and really like it. For mine I had to by a travel adaptor for the plug so I could make use of the fast charger but boy is it fast. And hardly any bloatware. Only downside for me is the lack of cases to buy.
I haven't tried a memory card yet but it does say it takes them.

Have this now ( changed from Samsung 6, battery crap). This came up on UK Deals back in April on Gearbest at £109, got it back end of May had to pay £21 to DHL for delivery. Very happy with phone, aluminium chassis, 1080p screen, big battery that does last. Rear case fine but rubbish generic screen protector. Got genuine 6000 pro screen from Amazon in Germany half the thickness of normal glass screen but still glass. Can recommend phone have had no problems, not sure with use for gaming.

The import duties insurance on this deal would've been a lifesaver for you!
Your net price was £130 and you're happy at that price.

Reviews state that a protective rear case is included and screen protector also in the case.
Fingerprint scanner is supposed to be accurate also.
It's made of metal, which is nice at this price point.

Would've been nice for an X10/X20 processor, but it's absolutely fine in day to day use. Other strengths make up for this I think and for £92 it's pretty hard to beat.
