Nice looking back light for TV or other things. I recently purchased this and this really makes the TV look super cool. They have dropped the price on this one and looks reasonable now.

Would these work behind the headboard of a bed to give a bit of a glow? I think it would look good but not sure if these would be approriate?

Imo you'd be better off with a 5m tape strip, either 5050 or 3258 led. You can cut the tape to length every couple of inches so can pretty much get them to exactly the length you need.
I'm making a couple of backlight nightlights for my kids rooms using the battery powered versions by mounting mirror stickers or a poster to a board then mounting it a cm or so off the wall with the battery pack & led tape behind. With it being battery powered there's no trailing wires so hopefully should look pretty decent & unique.

With bias lights to idea is to improve perceived levels of contrast on the screen.
To do that most effectively you need lights at 6500k.
Fwiw I have a 5050 led rgb strip around the floating wall. I've simply set my harmony to have two modes, watching TV or listening to music during the day it will set to a nice bright teal coloured light to match the decor, in the evening it's set to a slighter lower brightness pure white so it works effectively as a bias lighting system.
I have 2 sets of similar led strip lights and just be aware that the adhesiveness of the strip can fail over time due to the heat from your TV. My first set on my Sharp 40" started to fall away after a couple of months, so I used a glue gun to hold them in place. The 2nd set I bought I doubled up on adhesive tape with a roll of 3m and they have been fine.
Both sets came with the 3m backed tape.
Good deal though, as the lights do look nice. I just have a nice slow fade through the colours.

When I looked at buying some bias lighting, the "science" suggested using a light that has a colour temperature of 6500k. Its supposed to reduce eye strain and increases your perception of contrast. Multi-coloured lights were actually advised against (headaches and washed out images?)
It could all be marketing BS....but I went for a 6500k light because I like white and didn't want the disco effect :smile:

I've got some cheapo usb powered led lights behind my tv. Cost a couple of quid off the usual chinese websites. They're off white and I don't feel the need to change colour.
Not knocking this deal, it's good if it's what you want/need.
Is that based on any kind of science, or is it your personal preference?

poor man's Philips ambilight - I love my Philips and like the old style throw of light into the room that it gives, just don't get it with the flat screens generally so heat from me..

Just a little heads up, I have this and because it is IR and not RF, my tv remote and amp remote causes interference.. I would probably hold out for an RF led unit..

I have a 48" TV wall mounted, would I be better off with 4x50cm lights, mounted centrally along each edge.... or get the 2x1m, 2x50cm kit for 3 quid more, which would fit pretty much all the way around?
