Very cheap laptop should be OK for simple stuff, has 2GB RAM and 32GB internal storage.

You have to set it up in chrome and then you print via the 'net.

Is there software for Chromebook to play DVDs? I tried using an external and VLC on this model and couldn't get it working. Oh and no you can't run iTunes you have to use Spotify or Play.

The build quality is excellent for the price - originally bought for the kids but I'm annexing it for myself.
Bought one for my mum and she loves it, so does my more tech savvier dad. It's silent, small, fast, secure and battery lasts a long time, what more could you want.

Bought it in the last offering, reasonable VFM. Like many Google products it's OK but the battery life on standby seems curiously short and the screen contrast is very poor. OK for the price but would be disappointed for £150.

Only if they have pre-Brexit stock. Otherwise its likely to reflect current dollar/EU exchange rates with a 10-20% increase (or already has). That's what's happening across the IT industry.

Any chance this could be used for programming in Java/Ruby/HTML? Would it work if I installed Ubuntu? I need a cheap ass laptop to program in but I'm not wanting to spend more than like £200, first year Computer Scientist at Uni so the coding isn't very intense...

I understand you point of view, but I mainly use it for browsing, videos, skype , word editing ( online)
and chromebook is more than enough for that. Since chrome OS is so light, battery lasts ages.
Cost is 1/8th of a macbook and 1/3th of windows.
I bought the Acer budget Chromebook and had to return it twice then ordered this when it was £99 a while back and it was the best decision I made its been great and I would definitely recommend even though it's a little more has a great battery life and is extremely tough for what you would expect is perfect for every day browsing.voted hot!

I've seen such on Google Play Store, when you get Google Play Store on the Chromebook's, then that will be available to you also? (including notable 'alternatives' like: Open Office, Libre Office, Kingsoft/WPS Office, Polaris Office, and ..... )
Until then, you'll alway's have your Google Doc's Office on your Chromebook for now?. :-)

Looking for something that will play android apps...am I right in thinking this doesn't? It does say google apps....but maybe that just means chrome browser type apps.

it is scheduled to get the android play store soon. obviously not everything on it will work on a Chromebook but much will. similarly the games might not adapt well to the form factor
