I've got two LED Lenser torches and think they're overpriced & overrated. There are now so many torches roughly equivalent on the Chinese websites like Ali Express for 20% of the Lenser price. It's worth looking around as you can save a considerable amount.

Up to a point I'd agree with you. There are indeed any number of cheap Chinese torches available. I used to buy them. But without exception they always failed after a very limited amount of use - and once they've failed they're impossible to repair. Usually, it's the switch that goes, but occasionally it's something else. Whatever it is, though, the torch always fails, it's always impossible to repair, and the failure is after just a few uses.
Then I discovered LED Lenser (and its 5 year warranty). There are a lot of fakes out there, and that's probably why not everybody rates them, but a genuine LED Lenser will be well made, and it will (unlike the cheap ones, or the copies) last. They're well made, and because of that, a pleasure to use, and you don't need to keep buying replacements.
Don't get me wrong - there are other decent torches out there, but the unbranded ones never last. And the branded ones (the decent ones, anyway) cost as much as LED Lenser. :wink:

I ended up buying the T7.2 after much deliberation.
The watch batteries and the twist to operate put me off.
I ordered on Amazon prime now and it came a few hours ago.
So far I'm impressed.. Excellent light output and feels sturdy in the hand.

Love led lenser products, great quality but at 20 lumens is have to go with the nitecore, hot price nevertheless.
If anyone's looking for great, teeny torches (a little more expensive granted) I can highly recommend the Klarus MiX6, Fenix E15 2016 (450 lumens :confused: )...

I have an M7 Lenser, fantastic quality torch with intelligent features, great build quality..
Was about to order till I see it takes watch batteries, sounds like something you'd find in a cracker.
bought a lot of these and the led lender range warranty has never paid out

Utter garbage only brought by ignorant people that do not know better. So many brands offer vastly superior torches for half the money that LED Lenser charge for the junk they sell.

Makes me laugh when advertisers say this, bit like " Military grade security software " .
The torch looks very similar to the led torch with aluminum body you can buy in poundland , B& M and other loss cost stores for a £1 and they are very bright.
Search Ali Express for tactical self defense torches , you can get a batten cree bulb torch for under a tenner as well as small torches ..

Your calculator needs so little power compared to a torch, that the voltage drop caused by a bit of oxide on the battery's positive terminal will have no significant effect on it until the batteries are getting weak anyway, although cleaning them when the calculator reports that they need replacing may get you several months extra use out of them.
Also the battery contacts on a calculator or watch are usually pointy so make much better contact with the metal of the battery than you'll get between the smooth flat faces of a stack of these silver oxide batteries in a torch.
You don't see liquid leaking from these batteries just a hazy coating on the positive terminal and it happens quicker with higher current use and much more rapidly with non premium batteries.
An AAA battery is a better choice for a small torch and allows you to use rechargeables and li-ion batteries if the torch supports it.
As for cheap chinese torches I bought a few sub £11 ones for family plus myself several years ago, and they're all still working fine and all significantly brighter than a lenser p3.

I never knew that. Thanks. Perhaps you should inform the various police forces in the UK too, as they tend to now use Led Lenser, rather than their traditional torch of choice, MagLite.
Of course, Rolson are much cheaper than either of these makes.

I had a cheap torch that took 4 AG13 watch batteries for a short while, the watch batteries needed frequently taking out and wiping to get it to work because that type of battery leak electrolyte out over their contacts.
This stainless steel torch is only slightly longer, thinner and is brighter at 170 lumen, and takes a AAA or 10440 battery:-
10 latest reviews on Amazon 5 people give 2* or less. £10 if you don't have prime. it takes 4 watch batteries.

A couple refer to how short the batteies last (they have a 5hr burn time declared, so I don't know how long one user who complained they failed completely after a month acctually used the torch in that period) and one couldn't find any replacement batteries; obviously that person doesn't have a Pound Shop or B&M etc near them. That ignores the umpteen different listings for that batteries on Amazon itself.
Another complains that the 'key ring twist' is poor, saying too loose and the batteries fall out, yet too tight and the torch remains on.
Perhaps that person actually bought a totally different product, as the batteries on a K2 are held in place by a screw cap on the bottom of the torch; the on/off function operates by turning the head of the torch :smiley:
