Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaargh!
There are many wondrous and disturbing things on the West Wales roads in the darkest of night. There be goblins, fairies, headless horsemen and Ieuan the boy racer of the Vauxhall Corsa.
I might give it a miss. The witching hour approaches.

You'm thinking, "Hello, what's a wall doin' here?" and you'll be going like this.
"Suppose I'd better go down this road here.
" And you'll say, "This road? This road here? "Look at this road," you'm say, "Look at it.
" Then you'll be driving down this road until you come to a tree.
You'm thinking, "Hello, what's a tree doing here? Lovely old tree.
Which way now? "I've come this far," you'm thinking, "Why give up now?" And you'm thinking, "I'll go down here 'cause this road looks right, "but where is this road leading me? Where?" You'm thinking, "Where does this road lead? Where? Have I gone too far? "My God! My wife, my little children! Where does this road lead to?! "Have I got enough petrol for such a journey?" you'm thinking.
"Is it gonna rain? It's possible! "Turn back!" you'm saying, "Turn back! My wife! My little children!"

Superb. How long is the drive from Swansea to Haverfordwest at this time of night? I feel like a drive - bet the Tesco is not a 24 hour one

Pretty sure I saw a label for one of these in Tesco Stretford Extra earlier when I was looking for the Millenium Falcon, unfortunately they had neither in stock.

Great. If you want PFOAs in your food... Tefal non-stick is EVIL.
US scientists have some bad news: non-stick pans could be detrimental to your health.
Academics from the Green Science Policy Institute in Berkeley, California have released a petition, known as The Madrid Statement, signed by over 226 scientists and professionals from 40 countries, which highlights the potential harm of PFAS chemicals, which are often used in the manufacture of non-stick pans, among many other items.

So the petition is about the chemicals, not the non stick pans?

PFAS chemicals
NOT the PTFE!!!! There are none of these left once it has been polymerised. Studies have also shown that you can heat the PTFE up to 500 degrees and it is still safe (though smoking).

How does all this cancer causing junk fare against an aluminium pan? We need new pans and I don't want to spend the earth; the landlord won't be up for it. Cheap pans from the indian store better than this, or what?

I use a stainless steel frying pan (from Lidl) these days as non-stick pans don't last long. There's a learning curve to cooking with it so that food doesn't stick, but as a general rule you need to cook at a higher heat and with a bit more oil. I'm happy with it.

Feel a lot sturdier than my old tefal which has served me well for 3 years!

Personally, I only use aluminium if it is covered with PTFE as there is a lot of debate on the health effects of aluminium salts (alzheimers etc- see the studies after the Camelford incident). Even tomatoes cooked in there are acidic enough to dissolve the oxide layer.
PTFE coated is still safer but I would use stainless if at all possible or ceramic non-stick.

My mum bought one of these a few weeks ago (at full price) and had to return it. The problem is that the centre of the pan's base is slightly raised meaning that any oil or fat falls away to form a kind of moat around the outskirts. This means that the food sits directly on the base of the pan and burns, as my mum quickly discovered. She took it back and got a different one from Asda, which was absolutely fine. But I really wouldn't recommend these Jamie Oliver pans, no matter how cheap they are.
