You've assumed too much. JD is a Tennessee Whiskey, this is a subset of Bourbon, much the same as a Kentucky Whiskey is still a Bourbon.

Its bottled in the UK (or EU) as we have different bottle sizes - 70ML UK, 75ML US. Still distilled in Tennessee though.

I can't believe I'm actually posting this, but, it's definitely not a bourbon.

Any whiskey can be a bourbon as long as it meets this criteria as established by an act of congress

Must be made in the United States.
Must contain 51 percent corn.
Must be aged in new oak charred barrels.
Must be distilled to no more than 160 proof and entered into the barrel at 125 proof.
Must be bottled at no less than 80 proof.
Must not contain any added flavoring, coloring or other additives.

Jack Daniels is specifically not a bourbon, not because it's made in Tennessee but simply because it's charcoal filtered through sugar maple which I assume impacts the statement 'Must not contain any added flavoring, coloring or other additives'.

Jack Daniels themselves pass this of as 'Tennessee Whiskey' to in some way suggest it's different but also better than bourbon.

​Dry county means nothing. Lynchburg is a dry town and the JD distillery is there. Dry means you can't drink it. Nothing stopping you from making it.

If you really want to save cash, keep the £20 in your pocket. You get to save £20 AND avoid having to drink sour mash/bourbon/whiskey, etc.. it's all clearly foul.

Voted hot as good price although give JD a miss usually. If you get a chance sample a bottle of George Dickel instead, that's the stuff actually drunk by those that know in TN (and always a bottle in my bag when I go out there

JB Devil's Cut is £16.50 at Asda at the moment. Highly recommend it for that price and it's 45% :laughing:

This is £23 a litre in York (not £20).

Bulliet Bourbon was £17 delivered on Amazon not too long ago.

Bide your time and Morrisons will have it for £15 before too long along with deals on chocolate tubs, Baileys and boxes of beer.

Lidls used to do a decent cheap sour mash whisky (Western Gold I think it was called). Dont know if they still sell it but once added with Coke you couldn't tell it apart from JD. Anyways voted hot for this deal as I'll be stocking up :smiley:

I do like Bulleit. Used to be £15 for 70cl regularly, but seems to be creeping up in price lately.

Not fussed on Buffalo Trace, tried it but didn't have much taste. However always grab JB Devils cut or Bulleit when they occasionally drop to £16.

No it doesn't. bourbon county is dry. There are no distillery's there. You're not far off the reason though...

The only state that can be associated with bourbon is Kentucky. you can't have a Tennessee Bourbon or a Mississippi Bourbon. Tennessee wanted there own drink and "Tennessee Whiskey" was born. It's legally classified as a bourbon. It drinks like a bourbon. It crosses state lines as a "bourbon"... It's a bourbon.

£18 in Morrison's , this JD deal is £14 in comparison (price per 70cl) so I'd rate this as a better deal.

Good price - seems to do this a few times a year when I stock up. Normally goes to £15 per 70cl at Christmas, but this is a great price for 1l.
