Just saw this at the Bristol Asda store. Checked online and the cheapest I could find was 274 quid. At 150 this seems to be a bargain. Not the best of specs of course but good enough for this price. None left at the Bristol store as there were 3. I picked up 1, returned after about 10 minutes to the aisle and they were all gone! Good luck with the hunt!

funny because 10 years ago I could do allsorts with a much lower spec machine than this one, play games, watch videos, browse the internet, use Office, the list is massive, yet a much more up to date machine won't do any of those?
You obviously have a much better system than this, shame it isn't good enough to let you post deals on a shopping forum, just trolling comments.

My antique is running fine with Avast 10.4.2233 with current definitions and I've just reinstalled Firefox 48.0 with updates disabled. Perfectly secure and ideal for what I use it for. Mawarebytes is a no no, but the latest versions of Superantispyware, Spywareblaster and ZoneAlarm all run without any problems.

Blimey didn't think I'd start an argument! I was only reinstalling Win XP for someone and naturally downloaded the latest AV, AVG didn't install (because it needed SSE2) and I don't think Avast did either. Turns out when he got it back he didn't even reconnect the machine back up as he had other machines to use and now has a new laptop (he's a bit of a hoarder I think). Apparently SSE2 was out when AMD made the Athlon XP's but decided for some reason not to include it. Sorry I brought it up now

Fact 1 - Modern AV works just fine on my 15 year old PC, though they wouldn't in my 386.
Fact 2 - Computers in 11 BC didn't have AV installed
Fact 3 - In a response to Zak, you said "Don't be daft. Norton, McAfee etc have been around since the dawn of time and installed perfectly well on Athlon based machines (I used to have one)." so not only do you not know what your talking about, your not even consistent in your argument. And why would anybody in their right mind install McAfee?
Fact 4 - A turbo charger wouldn't and couldn't work on a horse due to the lack of a constant positive pressure exhaust stream. Some form of ram jet however might be a possibility though the output would be intermittent and liable to be injurious to the horses nether quarters (that's the horse's 'ass', which you'll be able to identify with, as you clearly are one)

Ok all these negative comments on this then arguing is going to confuse people here is what people need to know.
Are you going to be able to play the latest games on it NO
Are you going to be able to browse the internet, play browser games, store photos, watch movies, write letters on it. YES, no problem at all. £150 for a brand new laptop even at basic specs is a bargain. Get if you just want a laptop for doing the above. Grab it with both hands.
(Sorry but I have to comment on one other thing the hard drive is not painfully slow, stop putting people off with daft comments like this. It is just fine for anyone to use.)

Reading comprehension clearly isn't your strong point. Then again, if you're trying to use modern AV on some ancient 15 year old PC, intelligence isn't your strong point either. What are you going to try next? Are you going to try and fit a turbo charger onto your horse?

You really should look at (adult?) literacy classes. Where did I say I was using 2016 software? My "15 year old obsolete hardware" runs MS Office without any issue.
The problems I had only applied to a few security programmes, and all of the problems can be overcome either by running an older version, as I have done with Avast, while keeping the definitions up to date or using an alternative such as Superantispyware rather than Malwarebytes.
I don't have my antique instead of a more modern PC. I have it as well as.
Perhaps you should heed the words of Abraham Lincoln -"Tis better to be silent and be thought a fool, than to speak and remove all doubt."

5400 rpm hd isnt the end of the world, sure not ideal but on a mobile device it will save a bit of battery, the same with the lower res screen, nobody with well balanced kids who arnt tech savy is going to get hated for this, if you are on a budget and it is a choice between no laptop or this laptop youre gonna get this laptop, or look for a refurb somewhere thats better but again, i stipulated "tech savvy" before, low res screen, fine for typing and browsing, low speed lower power hd, crap for loading games but not an issue, fine for accessing documents and the cpu is still a quad core, sure nothing is the best, but you dont get the best for 150 quid.

The intel pentium chips are waay faster than the pentiums of old, its the brand name for their tier of devices above celeron which represent their lowest tier cpu's, it will be good enough for the kids to write up homework and use the web for research, it will not play games bad the odd 2d game or older titles and wont be the fastest machine but compared to no laptop at all it will be a real boost.

Unlike you, Zak isn't being daft. The problem arises when the security package updates to a version that can't be run by your hardware. That's happened to me with Avast, Malwarebytes, ZoneAlarm to name but a few. Older processors just can't cope. I keep my 15 year old Athlon based PC alive as my printer and scanner won't work on my Windows 10 PC.

How did we ever manage to get any work done 10 years ago, when this would have been state of the art!!!
I've only just got rid of my 14 year old Pentium 4 system which was still working fine and being used for graphic design/IT work - the only reason I shifted it was because Microsoft were dropping support for XP.
A system like this is fine for general household browsing, kids homework, office type stuff and basic IT work but not for any sort of gaming etc.

£150 is a good price for this machine. It's a slightly older spec, but the only PC you're getting for similar money these days is an HP Stream or similar, which is alot worse than the one in this deal. This PC will be fine for anything other than 3D gaming and even then, the older games like Half Life are still going to work.

It's quite obvious they missed out the word 'updates' or similar.
As hardware advances, the newer software is more demanding too (usually pointlessly) and that's what cripples modern low-end hardware even if it's perfectly capable in it's own right (iPhone 4s or iPad 2 on iOS 9 are a good example of this or modern websites which flood the browser with BS adverts).
