It's true. I actually saw Noel Edmonds go past my house in his hovercraft, he was waving a satnav at me. Infact it was exactly the same one that I ordered on click and collect. I thought nothing of it until 5 minutes later, the dreaded phone call. It was then that I realised Noel had it. All true...

"on one bad experience"... not really... I have had several C&C things "mysteriously lost"... having reserved for my nearest store (about 5 miles away), and receiving email to say "its in store now"...so I make the journey, only for the staff to "not be able to find it" at all...even getting the store manager involved to no avail. Not even getting some sort of goodwill discount on another equivalent item for wasting my time!

While not being a huge fan of Halfords they really worked out on this offer! I got a GoPro for 10% off by reserving online last night and collecting (and paying) from my local store today.

I don't know what world you live in but this happens everywhere, Halfords is probably worse than others in this regard thats all. Mine was a satnav reduced from 90ish to 30ish, easily sellable on ebay or other sites.
My guess is that you have some ties with Halfords - do you work for them?
I have bought things from Halfords even after the incidents but in my experience if the deal is very good at Halfords then there is no point going for it because the staff will make all sorts of excuses and in the end you won't get it anyway and waste your time.

Don't know about bikes, but with bikes theres not much competition is there?.
For car parts, service parts, batteries, audio, cleaning solutions, spray cans, sat navs, polishing solutions and everything else down that isle they are always more expensive than anywhere else. Ebay eurocarparts/carparts4less..etc always cheaper and delivered too.
I only ever buy professional range tools from them when they are on offer.

tbf to Halfords most of the experiences I have had has been positive.
Like the woman who when she saw me tying my dog up outside to bring her in. This is 38 kilos of German Shepherd we are talking about.
Or the bike mechanic who told me to go home n sign up for British cycling before I bought a bike so as to get another 120 quid off.
Or when I reserved an item n it was oos the woman said just find something similar from the cycling shorts n she would honour it at the price I should have had...
There's a couple of idiots in my local but the decent ones outnumber those

Got some bargains. I have to say the service of Halfords is pretty good. Anytime in the past I reserved an item and it was not actually available they went out of their way to offer an equivalent or model up for same price.

Yes I honestly think that at least five staff at the Dumfries store don't want to sell anything discounted and actually lie about deals. I once had a manager of another store phone that store as a customer re a lie on price match. He sold it me and gave me a further discount - gets my business all the time.

I've had two expensive items not work out in clearance/c&c but the customer service I received after the mix ups from the Warrington and Northwich store was second to none! Upgrade on one item and a comprise package on the other. I wish other stores had the same level of customer service that Halfords have. I wouldn't hesitate from purchasing deals from Halfords again as I know if there's a problem they will resolve it to benefit the customer. I have found staff to generally be very helpful. They get the thumbs up from me!

I don't have any relatives who work for HalFORDS so I can be pretty much impartial and back up most of what you've said in your posts. I think the problem here is the gift of anonymity, I would love to see if people would be so brave to accuse a business of being "crooks" and "frauds" if they could be identified

my partner has just said the best way to get a deal is to speak to the guys instore, if you go to head office they will do something but its done under protest by the store guys so becomes the smallest gesture they can get away with, if you speak to the guys decently in the actual store and don't spout off about "sale of goods etc" as if you are a small town solicitor then the response you get will be so much better - i head my partner tell me about a customer given an entire tool cabinet for free as the customer had had 2 delivered direct to home that were dented and its a 25 min trip to store so the manager went above as the customer was understanding that it wasn't store fault and the manager wanted that customer to remain a customer as he was actually a human being with empathy rather than a shouting fool who didn't get his £1 bargain or free 02 de-icer.

click and collect orders are valid for 3 days, it doesnt matter if its not in stock when you order as they can just order more (if a proper stock product not a cycle helmet from 10 years ago that has been reduced to £1 !!)
on that occasion you should have kicked off as my partner would have spoken to someone and got it from another store or reduced a better one to solve it
NJ097
28 Oct 16#77
how much do you really think halfords staff want to buy your reserved cheap item that you think they will cancel the order !!!
they get discount anyway - if its gone to clearance it means its already been sat there for ever, so any manager will reduce it long before you hear about it to get rid and free up valuable warehouse space.
its not worth the potential complaint, the aggro in store and all the hassle as that time could be spent serving other people.
NJ097
28 Oct 161#76
I dont but my partner does,
its just crazy how some of you clearly have no idea regarding retail
i'm not judging anyone but do you honestly think anyone who works for them doesn't want to sell you things ?
the stock file is inaccurate due to the ridiculous amount of theft, the terrible outsourced delivery system and a stock system that doesn't cleanse old lines that are no longer for sale.
if you reserve something that has been advertised on sites like this - then its because its stupidly cheap - how many people do you think reserve compared to how many there are in store,
can you blame the guys for not spending an hour rooting through old boxes in a warehouse to find an item for a fiver or should they be serving the people who actually NEED the products such as new battery, oil etc
how many people who think in halfords actually want to be the person that says "sorry not in stock" as all they get is a load of mouth from people about things they dont even really want !!!
the price match is all encompassing.so the comment earlier ref you can find it cheaper if you shop around is moronic as that is the case for every retailer !
treat the people instore with a little respect and I guarantee they will sort something and potentially upgrade you as an apology for the inconvenience that you have experienced driving into get something you dont really need.....

Halfrauds is right, bunch of crooks.

you work for Halfords, right?
J4GG4
28 Oct 16#73
No they're called halfrauds because their prices are usually more than anywhere else.
Showing they have stock on reserved items and then saying they don't is simply down to a crap stock system. They do it clearly on purpose. My website has a free system on it that manages stock perfectly. I never have any issues at all.
Its not hard, when they get stock replenished they would/should update their system to reflect how many of each particularly items are left. This is really basics for a retailer.

factually inaccurate !
a percentage of prices change evry week depending on the markets, but price match is always available, web prices are checked throughout the day to remain competitive and across entire store in the last 3 weeks there have been less than 100 price changes both increases and decreases as workload is high with range changes - your comment is wrong

20% off booster is on all seats including web ordered for click and collect and will be honoured in store.
BCA can be used as it makes **** all difference to the store team and drives the attachments which is the focus
web exclusive pricing is nonsense as it gets matched in store anyway, discount codes, vouchers etc make no difference to the stores sales number as it gets credited by head office so any store not taking advantage of that are idiots
NJ097
28 Oct 16#64
the reason a lot of the click and collect orders are not there is due to scalpers on sites like this that see a bargain as its a clearance line - reserve about 20 and wipe out the store, the stockfile is inaccurate on clearance lines as for them to go down cheap enough price for everyone to want them means they were discontinued about 2 years ago - probably half the team have changed so no hope of ever finding it and no team member is going to spend an hour looking for an old £5 line and not serve the 40 customers instore who have made the effort to get off their ass and come in for something they need rather than just trying to grab an ancient bargain !

I don't know then, there have been two instances where I the C&C hasn't gone to plan (out of many), one they called me and apologised within 10mins of the email, they offered to order into store but it was for a couple of £1 Jelly car air fresheners which were HUKD impulse purchases that I didn't really want (lemon!!). The other was for some Mountain Bike shorts, when I got there, they couldn't find the goods so offered me a pair 3x the value, which was hardly a problem
Maybe your store is poor, maybe its a personality/attitude issue?!? I've always treated them with respect and understood that things happen, it seems to pay dividends
Regardless, I can only comment that the two stores I use regularly are great, the bike guys really know their stuff and have offered free advice to give me confidence to do repairs myself, which has probably saved me a fortune

The heads up is wrong, you can use British Cycling on flash sale or internet order with i.e. click and collect. You can also purchase using gift vouchers at a 10% discount. search on here . Ive purchased a bike in a legit sale - rare, then a 10% off code plus a further 10% off with british cycling and paid with gift vouchers with almost another 10% off. plus quidco although it can easily get denied as the member of staff usually cancels order and puts it all through again with on method of discount.

To be fair to halfrauds, the last thing i collected a year ago was a little alarm. I ordered 3, they only could find 2, but only charged me for 1. So i cannot complain. Annoying if i really needed/wanted those 3 though.

With regards to the British Cycling discount it should apply unless in the offer it states otherwise. Sadly some staff are unaware of the British Cycling discount eligibility so it might be worth having the latest terms and conditions.
Members and official Fans of British Cycling can get 10% off everything in-store at Halfords, including sale items.
Halfords stocks Boardman bikes and is the UK's leading bike retailer with over 400 stores across the UK.
This offer is only available in store. Excludes all website only prices and deals. This is not available in conjunction with Cycle2Work vouchers.
So if the sale is website only the BC discount will not apply, however I have known them still to put it through, I guess it depends on the member of staff.

This is really basics for a retailer.
a percentage of prices change evry week depending on the markets, but price match is always available, web prices are checked throughout the day to remain competitive and across entire store in the last 3 weeks there have been less than 100 price changes both increases and decreases as workload is high with range changes - your comment is wrong
Looking for a new Satnav

Awesome, was just about to buy a roof box and now its £50 cheaper!!! get in!
Marvellous!
Flash sale, but slow stock updates!
Worst case, take it back, refund it and re-buy, if its opened, buy another at the reduced price and then take it back with the old receipt for a refund
To be fair to halfrauds, the last thing i collected a year ago was a little alarm. I ordered 3, they only could find 2, but only charged me for 1. So i cannot complain. Annoying if i really needed/wanted those 3 though.
I rarely go to the store before at least 24 hours has gone by so I can check whether Noel and his unicorn powered hovercraft have visited first.
I have never yet had a successful click and collect from Halfords - always some excuse as to why it isn't available.
Terrible stock control or deliberate con - I can't work it out?
Do think they fit anywhere...:stuck_out_tongue:
Check the dates on the main post again.
Only just spent £200 with them ffs. Its all going back tomorrow then.
As you have a MTB I wouldn't bother getting a trainer, i'd get out there and get mucky

So if the sale is website only the BC discount will not apply, however I have known them still to put it through, I guess it depends on the member of staff.
If I'm wrong then happy days
