This is almost exactly the same as the set I bought from Halfords over 20 years ago (I'm pretty sure it cost more than £60 then). I still use is as a backup, I have had to replace the 1/4" and 3/8" ratchet drives over the years, but the set still operates substantially as it should. I've added some heat, this is a good price for what it is.

That is a really good point - I'd noticed that from the deal; I don't think it was the case 20-odd years ago. The ratchets are normally the only parts that wear out in these lower end socket sets, so it is a good deal indeed that they come with a lifetime warranty.

Got this set a while ago, quality and should last you a good few years. my only complaint is three of the smaller sockets don't stay in place when you move the case around!

None of my sockets are loose, they all are tight as drums in there little holders, perhaps a lump a blu-tack in the back of the holder for those sockets

very good tools, if they break (including the mechanicals of ratchets etc) you can take them back and swap them so essentially this is a set for life.. or as long as halfords are in business for.
the case as someone else mentioned is crap.

this is a bargain. i got the 200 piece set last time which was half price and then 20% off and quidco worked out to £117. literally as goid as snap on tools. if you work on cars/bikes or any other type of mechanical work they are well worth the cash.

Hmm, the jury is out. I have quite a few bits of Halfords professional kit which the advanced seems to have replaced. I bought this kit today as now that most of my garage work is on motorbikes rather than cars, I needed quite an amount of smaller (1/4 & 3/8") drive stuff. Most of my older tools are a bit more cumbersome. This kit is not the same quality as the old 'Professional' range. The finish is very nice however the sockets are quite thin walled, the ratchets are definitely more 'clunky' and do not have the same quality feel. Also, for me, there are a few glaringly overlooked, essential accessories that a decent kit should include. The only extensions included are short 1/4" & 3/8, no long extension & no 1/2" at all.
It's not a bad kit for the money but is nowhere near the quality I expected

Well, it has lasted a bit over 20 years (apart from the two smaller ratchet drives), and been used for complete engine builds on bikes and jet skis as well as everyday jobs around the house and garage. The sockets still fit pretty well and the finish is remains good. The quality is not as good as the Craftsman tools I bought back with me when we returned from living in Virginia, but then the cost was much less as well.
For £60 this is a very good set of tools.

The quality, I would trust my body weight behind a Snap On breaker bar but not so much on a Halfords one. If you compare a screwdriver, ratchet or pry bar you will easily pick the superior.
Halfords are perfect for mild to moderate diy use, Snap On for heavy trade use. Especially on heavy plant or trucks etc

Re Snap On vs Halfords Advanced, I'm not disagreeing that Snap On are better because I have no personal knowledge, but I would like to know the reasoning - Are Snap On made of better steel, in which case what is the steel composition, or are they just thicker? Is there a heat treatment or type of manufacture that leads to the superiority?

Yes, it'll be down to the quality of the steel used, and possibly the after treatment which would also affect the properties.
It could also be down to the accuracy and precision of manufacture. It's unlikely to be anything to do with thickness of material used.
