Been playing this all evening. Can't praise it enough TBH. It's the best Guitar Hero to date, no question. The new guitar is great, with the upgrade to six keys really ramping up the difficulty level. The new Live mode is pretty cool, with the premise being that you're actually playing in front of a live audience. I like that everyone reacts to how your playing - play badly and the crowd boo, and your band mates give you the evils.
The song selection is massive. Okay, there's a lot of crap on there, and some absolute classics are missing (nothing from Queens of the Stone Age or Guns n Roses, for a start) but for £36.99 with two controllers it's phenomenal value. The selection is really broad, so everyone is bound to find a few dozen tracks they really like.
Oh, and the selecting the tracks you want to play thing? That's not a huge problem. Earning tokens doesn't seem difficult at all - I've got a load already after a few hours play. I can honestly say I don't object to GHTV at all given the huge selection of songs available without having to pay a penny extra. Prefer it to the old way TBH.

Well I'd ordered this from Game, then changed to Amazon when they matched Game.
I've cancelled that now and I'm off to Argos later on to pick one up.
Thanks for finding this one OP

I already own Guitar Hero Live - what's the difference between the two?
Wilza to simonallsopp1
22 Oct 161#34
The only difference with this bundle is that you get an extra guitar controller in the box. There are still only 42 songs on the disc for the offline "Live" version of the game (you also get a £15.99 voucher for the online GHTV bit described below).
The "500+" songs they are advertising including the ones available on the online part "GHTV", which you can either play it randomly appearing on one of the "channels" or by using a play token, which you can get by playing, or buying with real money. I know you probably know this as you have the game but I'm just explaining it for others who don't own it.
But yeah, this bundle has no exclusive songs, it's an additional controller (and the voucher). It's still a good deal for two guitar controllers and the game (and voucher), considering I paid over £60 for one controller and the game at launch, but it's just a little unclear. They should really make it more clear about the voucher.
EDIT: Okay so apparently you get a £15.99 GHTV voucher, so that's something.

I saw on a different Argos thread that people hang on to the receipt incase the price drops elsewhere - is that because Argos will refund the difference or to take it back and buy elsewhere? I'm not sure I could be bothered for a couple of quid.

The songs play out across two music channels that group songs in to half hour themed programmes. If you want to select tracks yourself, you need to spend credits. Credits can be earned in-game, or bought for money. The idea is that you play along with the channels and then use credits when you want to practice a specific song. The game seems to give out credits pretty liberally to be honest. If you're content to play the channels most of the time, you'll have a decent stock of credits quite quickly.
There's also a Party Pass (SP?) sold for £3.99 for those times that you have people round and just want to play the songs you all like.
I guess the upshot of this system is that the track list is constantly growing, and there's no requirement to spend any extra money to play the new tracks. The old system got expensive quickly and was off-putting to all but the most dedicated fans.

To play a particular song you need to use in game credits which you can earn by playing the two live music channels and earning points to trade in for "plays". For example 6000 coins can be traded for ten plays or so on. You can also buy plays for real money if don't want to play along live to earn them plus you get a £15.99 voucher included so I guess that's for 50 plays or something but not attempted to use it yet. This price is the standard price for the game as it's marketed as a value bundle and not some crazy sale so wouldn't advise buying to sell as £39.99 is RRP they are likely anticipating in game purchases and seeing as they are selling off cheap I'm sure this alone encourages some people to feel a tenner for some add ons isn't a big deal etc.

It's £1 more expensive at Amazon (with NUS Discount) and Prime delivery. Is it worth the hassle of Quidco to save an extra 8% using fastrack? Would be £34.04 after Quidco, saving £3.95.
What kind of stupid question is that, of course it is! This is HUKD. I'm an idiot.

Worst game of the series for me.
Sure, it's got the extra content via GHTV, but the fact you need to spend credits to play what you want, when you want, is a negative for me.
Played it for about 10 hours in total and it hasn't seen the light of day since.

It would seem that I didn't receive an order confirmation. I paid using Fastrack, and was told I couldn't collect it due to not having a collection number. I wrote a complaint email, and had a reply within approximately 15 minutes, for some reason it didn't go through on their system, but the Customer Services staff resent the email and text and it worked...
When I got to the shop to collect it, they couldn't find anything with that number, so they refunded and charged my card instore, therefore I lose the FASTRACK cashback, and it's only a quid cheaper at Argos...

This is the most atrociously unreliable game. The second controller is a virtually useless piece of sh*t. You never know if it actually is properly connected. It's just a badly put together game. It seems like a such a waste of money.

26 Oct 16#57
yeah i was properly seal etc. seal on the game. bagged guitars all in its place. it works fine on 1 player actually. the issue is when you try pkaying 2 guitars. think its because one receiver will be in the usb port at the rear and must disrupt the signal a bit. so im going to try a usb to female usb extender to bring the receiver to the front.
