Thanks for letting me know - I've seen those faults before, WiFi failure on 4s was relatively common. Well done on getting it fixed - this is what's making me think of just buying an iPhone. Literally after being thrilled with finally getting away from iOS to an S7 Edge, I've got the 'screen stripe' failure after just 2 months and am tempted to jump into the car, drive to town and get an iPhone 7 from Apple direct along with the cover it brings.

First vibro-motor broke after half a year, I had my iphone 4s replaced. After that (in almost 2 years) Wifi stopped working and they replaced the phone again telling me that they do it because it was bought from them directly (the email said my phone was "OUT OF WARRANTY", and Proposed Resolution:"Replace iPhone and cover under EU law")

This is a good explanation; though Apple led me to believe to avoid bad publicity, if you're sincere and clearly not trying to blag them for a faulty handset, they generally just replace/repair it anyway because the percentage of claims is so low.

EU directive is 2 years [each country is supposed to implement their law according to directive].
in UK (maybe England/Scotland slightly different) this directive is implemented as 6 years, however the consumer has to prove that it is a manufacturer's defect. If you're buying from other sellers they might make you prove it was a manufacturer's defect which would cost you extra money. However if you buy from Apple directly and if they know it's a common defect in the model, they would take it without you having to prove manufacturer's defect.
i had my iphone replaced this way, but it was only coming to 2 years at the time. Btw they didn't need a receipt, they could see when it was bought (from one of their shops) in their systems, and the phone was a present, so I didn't have receipt or a card it was bought with

No idea, but as I don't live in Scotland and don't ever intend to, it's not something I've taken time out to research. All I know is that in the event of a claim you need to state 'EU Consumer Law' as the reason.

I would doubt it as the claim is specifically 'EU Consumer Law' so would expect beyond the EU you wouldn't be covered. To be honest, I would imagine you might hit difficulties when Brexit has taken place properly as well but it's hard to say as no-one really knows. I would think regardless though, in 2-3 years you'll have updated the device so warranty is less relevant as time goes on.
To the person who asked, best value for iPads would be the mini 4 or Air 2 at this moment. The Pro range is a bit of rip-off for the extras it brings over 'normal' iPads.

The iPad Pro 9.7" is the latest "standard" iPad. It has a better display, much-improved speaker system and a fast processor. It has the same cameras as featured in the iPhone 6S and it has a rear-facing tru-tone flash. It can also film video in 4K.
Apple claims the iPad Pro 9.7" has 1.8x the processing power of the iPad Air 2 also. The iPad Pro is also compatible with Apple's Smart Keyboard cases and Apple Pencil.
The iPad Air 2 is arguably the best bang for the buck "standard" iPad at the moment. It offers all the features most people want too.
The iPad Minis seem a bit unloved at the moment. The iPad Mini 2 is the only device Apple continues to sell with an Apple A7 processing chip, which although is from 2013, is still very capable.
Since Apple rose the prices of their products in the UK, the iPad Mini 4 and iPad Air 2 are actually priced equally. This, in my opinion, would rule out the iPad Mini 4 unless you prefer the smaller formfactor. The sensible options therefore could be the iPad Mini 2 (£239+), iPad Air 2 (£379+) and iPad Pro 9.7" (£549+).
Unfortunately I believe the iPad Pro 12.9" model is rather overpriced and is larger than many people need anyway. This begins from £729.

The iPad Mini 2 is cheaper and has a bigger battery. It is a bit slower, heavier and thicker than the iPad Mini 4.
I personally bought the iPad Mini 4 16GB model in Gold a few months ago whilst still £319, however now the price gap is more significant, so really it depends upon whether you are willing to spend the extra £140. The iPad Mini 4 also has a better rear camera, faster graphics, twice the RAM, a fingerprint reader and a better Wi-Fi chip.
Both are great devices, it just depends on whether you're happy to pay the additional money for what is, ultimately, an incremental update to the iPad mini 2. Both devices have very similar Retina displays also.

6 years warranty with Apple. Took my previous iPad to them after a year and they charged me £100 for repairs. Absolute Joke.Good Luck with that. It does not happen in real life. And there are 1000s of clauses to that EU warranty which are impossible to proof and spend the time on lawyer etc.
Next one got it from John Lewis and they are so so good. I would say one of the best customer service ever provided by any company :smiley:

But if you buy from an Apple bricks and mortar store you get 6 years coverage under EU consumer law. I asked about it and they said, as long as you purchase from Apple direct and keep the receipt, they'll just swap it under that policy for you in the event of an issue. It will be easier than potential 'send off and wait for repair' with JL. That EU coverage isn't transferable though. This all came about when I was thinking about buying a 7 in the store, so despite the astronomical pricing it seems a lot less mental with the long coverage.

I've had new iPhones over the years with quoting their consumer policies.
My mothers iPad failed and John Lewis replaced it without issues. Her second one also failed and they replaced that too. So, Apple aren't that reliable but the JL warranty worked fine on this occasion. She also had the three years.

Xperia z3 compact tablets are as good IMHO. Samsung tablets are more robust despite (or perhaps because of) their more plastic build, at least according to my kids relentless drop-testing of devices.

They normally do 2-year guarentees on everything, however occasionally they boost this to 3-year warranties.

I'm sure this is the standard guarantee with JL, I bought my iPad mini 4 off them last year and it also had the 3 year guarantee. A no brainer to get it from them.

Same here, they're very reliable devices, and in my opinion, so much better than other competitors! Unlike the phone industry, there are few good alternatives to Apple's iPads at the moment.
