Basically I called Virgin to cancel and got told at midnight the exact package I have (5000 mins, 5000 Mins to 08 numbers, unlimited texts, 5GB data will be offered in a flash sale for £10 (instead of the current price of £15)

They advised me to either log into my account to get the deal or call up. Not sure if the sale last for 24 hours and if other sim only deals are included.

UPDATE: sorry guys just called them they said due to technical difficulties the promotion didn't go live and will go on in 24-48 hrs... lets see!

UPDATE: Spoke to guy on live chat he said when it goes live it will go on for 1 week but no idea when exactly it will start.

Do Virgin have 4G yet or are they still rocking 2001 with 3G?

I was told by one guy that they would definitely upgrade me to 4G when it becomes available but that was the guy telling me about the deal. When I called back trying to get the deal the other guy said he had no idea if they would upgrade current users to 4G. Too much conflicting information and trying to sell me "loyal customer" deals that anyone can get online worries me. Whatever the case it is poor form so no Virgin for me.

I phoned up this evening to ask about the 5gb for £10 that I was informed about last week that they put a note on my account to give me when their systems allow. Well they honoured it and give my two accounts the deal. this wasn't even the account retention team, just the normal account upgrade team. I think luck of the draw who you get on the line, also helped that I got them to put the note on my account last week.

Despite being told about the 5GB deal at £10 going live today, a week ago from a Virgin rep; I called to be told that the deal isn't available yet due to technical issues and that as 'I am a loyal customer they can offer me". They go on trying to sell me deals anybody can get online (double data) so I think this is Virgin Hype trying to get you to call up so they can then try and sell you something else. I will stick with 3 network. I am currently paying £9 for 4GB, unlimited everything else with 4G not 3G but I don't got the free 08 numbers and it is 12months instead of 30days. They haven't lied to me yet and I get service so good enough for me and saves a quid.

Ok so I just managed to borrow a virgin sim and test it out.
Data speed was shockingly slow :disappointed: Same EE backbone as my Life sim yet so different so won't be bothering with Virgin.

Think I'm destined to be happy only with Life or EE :stuck_out_tongue:

It's interesting how much difference there is within the same networks. I'm with life (3G) and data speeds are awsome but don't think I'll try Virgin then just to shave a couple of pounds.

I did think it was my iPhone at first. Reset network settings as advised via virgin mobile support (which I must admit are pretty good.) but still have poor download speeds.
I think I'm going to stay with them for a while longer as we appear to be V branded as a family so the free things help to alleviate the downsides.

Is the network really bad?
I've convinced myself I want to stay the EE network so was considering Virgin. Perhaps not then.

According to retentions this deal finishes on 26/10/16.
They did try to offer me the above with 4gb limit. Then £2 per day if I went over my allowance.
Then came back and apologised and said yes, it is 5gb of data.
Currently paying £15.50.
Apparently a deal that doesn't exist anymore.
Feel so special, pity the piggybacking ion EE is pants.
No Hope of 4g even with virgin mobiles false premisses.

Just an update (basically Virgin have suspended the offer again)

''Due to some further technical issues the current flash sale set to go live tomorrow has been cancelled and a new
one will be going live on Wednesday instead''

Expired for now as the offer is no longer aval and now won't be on the £15 offer

''Customers will receive double data on the £8 1GB and £10 2GB tariffs taking them to 2GB and 4GB ''

They told me last night it starts on 30th October, I said it was too late I'm ringing to cancel, I've taken out a 4G contract elsewhere, when I asked them last week they had no start date for 4G, they suggested I use the cooling off period, I reminded them that rather they rely on me to use a cooling off period they keep me informed, closed my accounts and got my PAC.

So I looked on the internet and found this.

However, I got their mobile homepage up just now and there's still no mention, I suspect the "it starts in two weeks" line may be just that.

No 4G and no plans to roll it out, they're just lying to keep existing customers or get people to sign up. With Three giving out all you can eat data for 20-odd quid and great coverage (at least in London), same free wifi in underground as Virgin and free data roaming, I don't see how Virgin are still relevant... I had Virgin fiber and TV for a few years, but always refused to take a mobile contract with them. My 2 cents...

Virgin appear to be looking at alternatives to 4G by offering free WiFi in more places via their new app which unfortunately is only available for iPhone and iPad at the moment, Android is on the way supposedly. This comes from their purchase of the Arqiva UK WiFi business so as they can offer WiFi in more places than their competitors, there is also talk about WiFi routers in all their cabinets plus the extra WiFi signal transmitted externally from your home router.
AStonedRaichu
11 Oct 16 #56
They was buying 4G access from EE, but when BT. Bought EE they declined it as BT want to be the best all in 1 service provider, the only way virgin will provide 4G is either by switching partners or getting a crappy deal from EE with reduced speeds etc to give EE/BT customers the better experience.

Virgin Mobile was my first contract SIM. I had to do it in my Dad's name because I was still 17. Must have been 10 years ago.

The deal was just for NTL/Telewest customers. 300 mins, 300 texts and 1mb of data for £10/month. Their customer service were all in UK call centres then. It was brilliant.

The prices are a bit lower now, but the customer service has gone downhill. I moved away from them 2 years ago but my parents are still with them - the only time you get to UK customer service now is when you call to cancel. Never had a huge issue with them as I have with Vodafone though...!

Got this deal already.... after all my unlimited contracts increased from £5.50 to £9 then the stupid hike to £23 I rang to say it was totally out of order.

Lady was quite happy for me to leave and was encouraging me to get my PAC code.

I asked where was Virgins loyalty to customers who have been with them for so many years & her response was "Virgin don't offer discounts anymore, do you want this PAC code?".

Said ok, but I want the other 5 on my account also!!

The lady was very sharp asking why do I want the other 5 when this price increase only affected 2 of my contracts.....

Very simple, if you can suddenly increase 2 of my contracts from £9 to £23 whats stopping you doing the same to the others that also have discounts. You have just said Virgin don't offer discounts, so the others will increase, so I'm taking all my business from you.

Suddenly I got offered the £15 package for £10..... oh, so you do offer discounts then.

Customer services have changed loads over the years at Virgin, hardly ever spoke to them but was always someone in England. Now you NEVER speak to anyone in england, it's just a script.

Was with Virgin Media for Mobile and Broadband but gave up because of the price hikes and poor service, dropped signal and terible Voicemail and with Broadband no service. Were a lot better before they got sold to the Americans. They will be boasting of the fabulous F1 coverage they can offer soon once they have got rid of Channel 4 and Sky I would imagine. All those price increases have helped them buy the rights off of the consortium that owned F1.

I still have virgin TV; broadband and i used to have a so called amazing dealwith their mobile (£6/month for 1200 mins, unlimited text and 1gb Data), however................. I left them because on loads of occasions people would ring me when I had signal, but it wouldn't ring, so they would leave a message. I wouldn't even get a message to say I had a voicemail until i made a call (which could be hours later), then it would pop up.
Once I was waiting for a call from a garage for my car to be ready, and It wasn't until i rang them at around 4pm, it popped up with a voicemail from around 11am. Really annoying.

4G should be by the end of the year I was told, but I'm not moving till they have it though. I think its more like 2003 though, before Three started 3G as a commercial service.
