Any recommendations for a budget player? I've no need for lossless so this is overkill for me. I want something smal with sd support so I can sell my ipod classic and just use it at times that is not practical to use my phone, hence why I don't want to spend much.

Had to choose betrween a Fiio and the Cowon Plenue D not too long ago. Went with the D. The UI on this was a dealbreaker for me.
But a good deal if you're after a Fiio.

As someone with an iTunes music library greater than the storage on the 160gb iPod classic, is it possible to get one of these and migrate all my songs easily so I can keep expanding my collection and have portable accessibility for the full collection (with a 256gb memory card)?
How would you do this?

You could try cracking open your Classic and put in a 256GB card in place of the physical hard drive or 2x256GB in a CF adapter if the iPod will support that large a hard drive. There are guides on Macrumors. I would look at a Fiio, though as iPods aren't the best sonically.

You could install one of these in your iPod Classic and have up to 1TB of storage although in practice you are limited to 40 to 60 thousand songs due to limitations of the iPod so 512GB is about as much as you need: https://www.iflash.xyz/store/

Very nice little player for the price.
Your iTunes library is almost guaranteed to be stored in either AAC or MP3 formats, both of which the FiiO X1 supports. All you would need to do is find your iTunes Library folder and drag & drop it onto the memory card. However the X1 supposedly only supports up to 128GB microSDs, so you may want to have a read around to make sure your choice of card is compatible.

Depending on your personal opinion I have both of these models and I prefer the Mk1 maily due to the Sensor wheel, as opposed to physical wheel. and the revised software.

I've owned one for these for a year and the sound quality is excellent for the price (especially when paired with a decent set of headphones) but the UI is pretty terrible and takes some getting used to. They do still occasionally release firmware updates for it though. It does not do video and if anything the screen is a little dark. Overall though i do not regret purchasing it and at this price it's a steal.
I was interest in the extra £20 for version 2, until I saw bluetooth without APT-X.
I am out on both versions.
I stick with my old sony.

I had one but sold it. It is good but not exceptional which was what I was looking for. I used FLACs and maybe my expectations where too big given it was then a £100 player. I had very good earbuds. I would look at the new model at very little extra over the mk 1. It does kinda depend what you're used to. Def an big improvement over a phone. I used the top model FIIO DAC with mine and so it was a bit chunky for shirt pocket too!
I also have the X3 MK1 and can say the sound quality is excellent, so I can only presume this player is in the same league. I recently tried one of the Sony HiRes players with SD card slot as I thought I wanted something smaller and with a decent Shuffle algorithm, (the X3 MK1 is poor at shuffle play, even with 120GBs of music to choose from!) and was absolutely appalled at the sound quality, having loved my Sony A729 and X series players until they finally died, so moved to FiiO. They are on the chunky side and the interface and screens are a bit, well, meh... But, if you appreciate sound quality, (and if it's like the X3, has the function to fully control Tone and Bass settings and not rely on nonsense preset 'equalizer' settings), and have some decent head phones and can make use of the line out, (which I use in the car every day), you can't really go wrong in my opinion, especially at this price. I may invest in one myself as my X3 is getting on a bit now!

Excellent little player. But remember, it's nothing without decent source music and some good headphones. If you're gonna load it with MP3, then just don't bother.

Shame it doesn't support full size SD cards as I'd pop a 512GB card in one of these.
Hopefully the O/S is better than that of the iPod Classic which wasn't updated for years before it was discontinued.
Like the other dude said, most likely album art rather than an actual video.

I have a Fiio X3 mk1 as the player on the iPhone 6 was so poor, and I was sick of iTunes.
It does produce a great output but you need a decent set of headphones to appreciate it. It also plays flac files and has a micro sd slot so you can add loads of music. What I don't like about it is the screen, it's not good, but I am listening to music not admiring album art.
