With all due respect guys, this would have been a wonderful deal before Sep 20th when ROI launched.
You can definitely go for this one but most of the new content will be locked and some of the old ones as well. You will need to buy the ROI expansion to actually play the game. So you have spent £16 (Taken King) + 25 (ROI Expansion) = £41 in total.
Instead, you can go to Flubit and buy a Destiny Collection for Xbox One for £35, saving you £6. If it doesn't matter to you, very well go for it.
And guys, saying someone is wrong doesn't make anyone any lesser of a person.
Well, this is my view of the deal. And I am a huge fan of Destiny so i would never put a deal down just like that. Been playing since the Gallahorn was first sold by Xur in Year 1

Said this in the other thread but will repeat it here, I have the Legendary Edition on PS4 from launch, the code in the box for the Taken King (the disc is just year 1 destiny without any dlc) expired 15/09/16, I have no idea if it actually did expire on that date or if it will be accepted though.

Good deal, great game but the collection's edition will come down in price soon, although if you get this you could just wait for a RoI deal with gold or something along those line, it's not worth the £25 tag.

Hi I purchased this game online yesterday looking at the comments as there is a newer version does this mean that the expansion packs included is this game are no longer active and you are left with only the original basic game?

All dlc will work. Destiny is about completing activities to raise your light level. As the cap is raised with each dlc. Some PvE and PvP may still be available but you really need ROI to enjoy the full experience. ROI is the last dlc for Destiny as they are working on Destiny 2 for next year. Hence The Collection is better value as the ROI dlc is currently £24.99.

For those that want a digital version and have access to 360/ps3 you can grab taken king for legacy consoles from amazon for a tenner and then get the upgrade offer (which I think is around £33 at mo)
not really a deal as more expensive than collection disc version, but if you want all digital then its only a few quid more....

good price and will last long enough to work out if you need Rise of Iron or not - by the time you've worked that out, it will have dropped in price

For a couple of pounds perhaps, but there's really not much content here for £16 and the way Bungie have left Taken King means that you're mostly getting the worst of Destiny and none of the actual good parts. I booted up Taken King as someone wanted a hand to get the quest specific exotics and had to laugh at how much they've locked out of the game, all that's left is a few story missions and quests which are meant to build you up to the end game content to get the more interesting weapons and armour but that end game content is either gone (most Crucible modes, heroic strikes, nightfall strikes etc,) or unplayable because no-one else does them now (the raid).

It's a strong contender, but I think CS:GO takes this crown
surprised by the amount of petty remarks in this thread.. not cool.
Anyway, as some have said, prior to sept 20th this was good value, now youre better off buying the collection that includes RoI so cold from me on price, but awesome game.

I take my comment back then, I didn't realise they had shut a lot of stuff down unless you had ROI. I just thought that in my opinion ROI is the weakest expansion from the ones they have released. It is good but short.
Apologies as above.

I agree with the comments about this not being worth buying and better off with the Collection if you want to play Destiny due to Bungie's aggressive approach to new DLC, you'd think the only limitation would be you couldn't play the new content but most content bar the story missions, original quests and the raid is locked out. When the DLC is current you have daily strikes, heroic strikes, nightfall strikes, daily crucible and weekly crucible which are essential for legendary marks and other rewards are not accessible if you don't have rise of iron even if the nightfall strike is a non rise of iron one (you can still do some of the daily story missions). Even in Crucible where there's only three or four new maps, almost all the crucible modes are locked out bar three 'classic' ones. Even content like the raid is relatively useless because they haven't carried it forward so no-one plays it any more.

The level cap is still 40 but the light level has gone up from 335 to 385 and i think will go on to 400 for the hard mode end games.
Yeah unfortunately that is how Destiny works. It updates every year and makes the old content irrelevant. I hate that but well we played it for a year now is the time to move to the new content  ROI will unlock everything with new content and new game modes.

It's really a very good game but it is a complete rip off in terms of how much they charge for dlc and microtransactions. I played it from day 1 for months and it takes over your life. Every time they bring out dlc there is a new full version which you think will be the ultimate collectors special edition. They really have you tied in because you can't play huge parts of the original game each time the new dlc hits. Now they have stated that when Destiny 2 comes along your character won't transfer across. All that grinding will go to waste... Not voting hot or cold.

As a player who has poured plenty of hours into this game, to settle the argument...
If you're buying this to play story missions, play a bit of crucible and doss around then this could be considered good value for money at £16.
If you're buying this with the intent on playing end-game content (New Raid, Trials, Iron Banner), being able to obtain all available gear and don't want to be level capped then you're better off getting the collection and saving yourself some money.

Has the level cap gone up from 40 with RoI dlc? Genuine question as I don't have RoI...yet. Also, only 3 modes available for Crucible this week (only the 3 classic crucible modes). Every other mode is locked out requiring RoI dlc. It's cheeky. I've paid £££ over the past 2 years on Destiny and when I load it now It's'crippleware'.

All he is said is the The Collection is better value. That is not berating. If you buy this and then decide to play RIO it works out more expensive this way as the DLC is £24.99.
The reply he got was fairly harsh and if it were me I would have reported it regardless of the standing of the person in question.

Buying this would be pretty pointless as you the have to add £25 for the ROI dlc to make it relevant.
Look for a deal for the collection as buying this and RIO at the moment would be £40.

I have Taken King and loaded it up yesterday...it's crippleware now. Shut off from most activities. Same as it was after year one. It's good you can buy the new dlc on its own this time. I love the game tho. It's probably 'technically' the best game mechanic around at the moment. Crucible is always good fun. If you've never played Destiny before, then buying the collection for £35 seems the best value as far as I can see...or you'd be buying this for £16 then most likely want the dlc (to properly open up the game) for an extra £25 very soon after........or have I missed something? Hopefully I've missed an amazing deal on the dlc!
