Why would you need this when 8w usb solder irons are smaller lighter and cheaper, use a powerbank for portability.:smirk:

Cordless bulky and more difficult to use than the wired usb type.

not got a power bank so that's atleast another £5 on top for a start, then the fact you've still got a cord attached and portability on site is an issue.

Speaking as a Sparky, dont expect the best of results out of a 6W solder iron

totally agree with sparky 6 watts will take ages to get solder up to temp

I need to do some soldering in car a key fob and on replace the capacitors on the daughter-board on my Onkyo. anyone recommend a reasonably priced soldering iron or what i should be looking for and I think I need a desoldering pump too.
If anyone has got one of these it would be interesting to know whether it actually is a useful tool. Even though it is cheap it's not much use if it doesn't work well. The silver solders used today require a much higher temperture to solder effectively and that needs to be maintained during the soldering operation. A single pointed bit is not the most useful

240V, 20W = 0.08A. 4.5V 6W = 1.3A.
Dont expect the battery to last long though.
I'll buy one to try, I recently had to buy a cordless nicad iron for a specific job (£80 from RS... including the charger, another £30) where I couldn't use a gas iron. It only lasted 3 joints before the battery went flat, from a full charge (though that's likely a battery issue).

I did not know AA batteries could deliver current like that? Well I normally only use in remotes, and portable radios, etc. Presumably will be changing batteries every hour or two?

Hmmm, not sure this will do a brilliant job - any reviews?
This is probably it, helps if your Spanish (looks like Spanish anyway) is up to scratch.

thanks i'll look at these, otherwise pay someone to get it done. I need to replace 6 capacitors to sort out the well known handshake problem

6W , you might just be able to solder a couple of SMDs if you're lucky (and have a steady hand) :smirk:

having spent days messing about repairing old peugeot wiring looms, I can confirm that anything under 20w is useless, I will actually buy one of these setups myself as this looks fab!
being outside soldering you lose so much temp in the iron so quickly :disappointed:

10x that wattage is what you need for a decent iron.

Would this be powerful enough to solder the pins on a Raspberry Pi Zero? If not can anyone point me to a cheap USB/mains one?

More than enough time to get someone talking.

Looks a decent price for what it does.
