My sister's washing machine is kaput, she's at work so she's given me the task of finding her a new one!! If you're on a budget, Beko are the way to go!

Get this BEKO WM84125W Washing Machine - White installed for only £20.00
Get your old product removed & recycled for £15.00

You can choose a time-slot for £19.99, otherwise All Day Delivery is Free (7am-7pm).

If you've chosen All Day Delivery, check the order tracker https://knowhow.com/order-tracking-start.dhtml?country=uk after 8pm or so the night before, and a time-slot is assigned. So you don't have to wait in all day (thanks to benf90).

Edit: Quick Wash is listed as "Quick wash time - 14 minutes for 2kg - 28 minutes for 8kg". Though I never do undies, bedding etc on quick wash!

There's a 6kg, 1200rpm spin model on Currys' website for a tenner less, but you'd be mad to choose much smaller capacity for the sake of £10! (And 8kg is essential if you have king size bedding!) http://www.currys.co.uk/gbuk/household-appliances/laundry/washing-machines/beko-wm62125w-washing-machine-white-10132190-pdt.html

Get the most out of your time with the Beko WM84125W Washing Machine, the perfect appliance for busy homes, accommodating up to 8kg of washing.

The a choice of 15 programs gives you great variety when you have to accommodate for different loads and washing needs.

Select the Fast Wash and you won't have to wait around for your daily wash. This program can clean a full 8kg load in just 28 minutes.

For smaller loads in a rush, choose the Super Quick program, complete in just 14 minutes, still maintaining the same brilliant results.

For more specific loads, you can choose from Woollens, Synthetics and Shirts, tailoring each wash to what's inside the drum.

The Beko WM84125W has an automatic water level reduction for half or small loads, intelligently reducing the water used, saving you money and energy.

The digital display keeps you informed through each wash as well as showing how much time each cycle had left.

The time delay function means you can select a wash to start at a time that's convenient for you, up to 19 hours in advance.

Rated at A+++ for energy efficiency, the Beko WM84125W Washing Machine is an efficient and functional appliance to see to your laundry.

like I said, I think it's a good deal, but retailers have done this since at least the 80s, it means they can say they price match, customer thinks oh it must be a great price, you will find virtually the same or identical model elsewhere, but slightly different model no. currys and comet were doing it a lot in the 80s so they didn't have to price match but all their advertising said they would.

I had a sniff around, and can see it's only Currys that offer this model. Bit naughty really!

My first washing machine was a bottom of the range Frigidaire WM850 850rpm for £30 more from Comet  circa 1993 ! Or was it Currys? Can't remember!

think comet did fridgidaire. currys was logik. I remember currys did matsui, dixons was saisho they were identical. same company (dixons stores group) same products just different badges, if dixons had a sale, currys wouldn't price match.

The Frigidaire (think they were owned by Philco) was a bit of a disaster actually. I was very young and it was very modestly used - the cement counterweight cracked after a few months' usage (the repair guy said he'd never seen that before) which made it bang like crazy when it tried to spin! They replaced it but I ended up selling it on!

You may be under the impression that Bosch is German, but most 'Bosch' and 'Siemens' appliances are now rebadged Hotpoints - the 'H' in 'BSH Group' stands for Hotpoint! Your father might be aware how reliable they are.

I have this model and there is a real problem with its motor. it uses a induction motor and they fail frequently on this model. The motor costs £140 from parts suppliers. Far better to pay £30 extra and get a model with a traditional motor.

The washing machine industry has changed a lot since I was a kid - everything has - brands you used to trust now aren't quite what they seem. Can't speak for Beko as I have no experience of them at all - though mum has one (not this model) and has been using it problem-free for a few years.

When I bought my Bosch (around 2 years ago) I was disappointed to read that sealed drums in new machines are now becoming the norm. There's videos on Youtube from some hardy DIYers attempting repairs themselves on such models but it's beyond my ken.

Not sure what the reason is, some environmental requirement I think??
howdiefellas to louiselouise
22 Oct 16 3 #20
Well it's anti environmental and all about the bottom line actually, because you can no longer replace the £36 bearings, you have to replace the £215 drum instead.

Am currently using a beko wm for four years now, not a single problem looks good and works good, and feels like good qualty, paid around 200 iirc.

I recall reading wm realiablility survey and beko came 2nd, being Bosch, only surprise was bosch came 1st, as everything else German (cars, electronics etc) they come last, but then again Bosch are likley made in China which explains their high rating.

Can't see Hotpoint mentioned anywhere? "BSH Group - Bosch und Siemens Hausgeräte GmbH" http://acronyms.thefreedictionary.com/BSH

This is quite an old thread (2010) and Hotpoint is discussed https://www.avforums.com/threads/bosch-siemens-neff-made-by-the-same-people-but-how-can-you-tell.1351256/ la gran siete says "Hotpoint are owned by Indesit although some of their appliances have been made by Bosch in the past."

BSH brand names https://www.bsh-group.com/index.php?page=1070

Re recalls and safety warnings - I remember recent issues with Bosch dishwashers (my model wasn't affected) http://www.itv.com/news/2014-05-27/hotpoint-bosch-dishwasher-safety-recall-how-to-check-your-machine/ (the video report says some Hotpoint models were made by Bosch). Wonder if this applies to other appliances?

When you look at http://www.bosch-home.at/ there's a pop-up safety warning about a certain cooker model! Bosch HSV745020/03 "IMPORTANT SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS Possible risk of explosions with gas boilers from the production period 2009 - 2011." (translated from German).

i think whirlpool make them in eastern Europe. it's curry's own brand. on a side note in the late 80s I bought 2 new washing machines, a indesit cheapo for a relative they still have and have never had it repaired. I bought a hotpoint which was a good brand at the time for myself, no end of problems. it broke in the first 3 months of owning it.
on another side note, some people believe the Kenwood are a good buy from curry's but they are just own brand with a Kenwood badge.

BUT
We made the mistake of asking Currys to install it, OMG they damaged the kitchen cabinet, damaged the new flooring to the point it needed replacing. We complained they did refunded the installation charge but did not acknowledge any of the damage, never mind making good so therefore we have not and will not use them again.

From Which
Which? verdict:Good cleaning, but not efficient 61%
LAUNCHED 24 JANUARY 2015TESTED 31 MARCH 2016
The Beko WM84125W washing machine is relatively inexpensive for a model with an 8kg capacity. Is this a great-value bargain or a cheap letdown? We sent this Beko washing machine to the lab to see how well it copes with our demanding tests. Read on for our expert review.

PROS Good cottons cleaning, excellent synthetics wash, effective spin
CONS Slow cottons wash, very slow synthetics wash, not energy or water efficient, fiddly to open door
It cleans and spins clothes well, but it’s let down by slow programs and inefficient use of both water and energy.

What is it?
This Beko washing machine can handle up to 8kg of laundry in one go. That should be sufficient for most medium-sized households, unless your laundry hamper is always on the brink of overflowing.

It has some useful features, including the option to delay the start of the program so your washing will be ready when you are. There’s a child lock that stops settings being changed, which is handy if there are curious children around while the washer is running, and a display showing how much time is left until the end of the program.

As well as the usual main washes for cottons and synthetic fibres, this model has several quick-wash modes including one for small loads and one for full 8kg loads. There’s a special program for washing a few shirts, too, with the idea being that a lower spin speed will leave fewer creases behind.

What’s it great at?
This machine does a good job of the most basic task: cleaning. Cottons get a thorough wash, while the main synthetics program is excellent at removing stains.

The spin is effective at removing water, meaning that your laundry will spend less time in the tumble dryer or hanging about on the washing line.

Is there anything I should look out for?
While cleaning is good, it’s also slow. The cottons wash takes longer than many other models to clean a kilo of laundry. Synthetics programs tend to be faster, but this Beko will really keep you waiting.

What’s more, it uses quite a lot of water and a fair bit of energy to clean clothes. You can see the annual running costs on the ‘technical specifications’ page of this review.

It is a fairly simple model, but you may find that the door is hard to open, and can be quite noisy when opening and closing.

Should I buy it?
It’s an OK, inexpensive washing machine and it does clean clothes, but you might want to consider going for one that uses water and energy more efficiently.
louiselouise
24 Oct 16 1 #49
From reading UKWhitegoods on and off over the years, some really take umbrage at the newer breed of "energy saving" washers. Some dedicated souls even buy older 1980s/90s Hoover machines* (from the days when they were good) because they reckon newer machines just don't rinse clothes as well, and their programmes take forever.

New machines take so long to wash because of the new(ish) energy saving EU legislation http://www.ukwhitegoods.co.uk/help/buying-advice/washing-machine/2912-wash-times-quick-washes

Energy saving is a bit pointless if you have to do extra rinses - which is what I do, every wash. I remember one HUKDer (can't remember her name off the top of my head) said she fills her Bosch with extra water during the rinse cycle to help it to rinse better!

The problem is everyone wants to do a decent wash in 20-30 minutes and no machine can do that.

"The conclusion is very simple, do it right and be done with it.

If you buy a machine and the main wash takes two hours or so, that's perfectly normal for most machines these days and there really is no way around it. Calling an engineer because you think that the washing machine is taking too long to wash will probably not get you anywhere because, they're all like that these days and there's absolutely nothing the engineer will be able to do about it as that is how they all work.

If you want to reduce the energy use in washing machines and washer dryers there really is very little option."

The Which! review doesn't seem to comment on this Beko model's rinse effectiveness.

About rinsing http://www.whitegoodshelp.co.uk/why-cant-modern-washing-machines-rinse-properly/ (quite an old article now though).

*Edit: I can even see some prefer old-fashioned, refurbished (many do it themselves!) twin tubs and reckon they wash whiter, fluffier (towels) and rinse better than automatics! That's for the hardcore amongst us :stuck_out_tongue:

I know - and that would be fine if they lasted. With hits model - After hardly any use. Maybe once a week for 18 months. The induction motor failed - it costs around £150 for a new one. Impossible to economically repair unlike most machines, so I had to do it all legally and formally under SOGA on which the burden of proof was on me - Step 1. Get an engineers report, to prove the motor was defective - which was impossible. Best I could do was call out a service engineer who didn't testify to anything but that the motor and control board had failed - for unknown reason.... The control board - another £60.
So, with call out charges, thats a £250 repair bill. After only 18 months gentle use, facing small claims court, and a real fight with the retailer to re-emburse me.
Some bargains are not all they seem...
