Unusable compared to Series 1 model which is just £60 dearer. Better battery life and far superior speed which makes it acceptable to use.
I have used all 3 models, Series 0, 1 and 2 and feel 0 is and was a waste of money. Save up and wait for the newer versions as this is £199 down the pan

Nope. Serie 1 is a new one just released with serie 2.
Serie 1 = original Apple Watch (let's call it serie 0) with processor of Serie 2.
Serie 2 = Newest Apple Watch with GPS and waterproof
I would also avoid 'Serie 0'

There are 3 versions. Series 1 is the first Apple watch with improved processor. Series 2 is fully waterproof, GPS and bigger battery.
You basically have the beta "get it out there" version (Series 0). Don't worry, so do I.. I feel a bit miffed paying over £500 for a watch that is now considered slow and useless.. I'm considering selling it and going back to a regular watch, because we'll have this problem every 12-24 months.
I don't mind doing this with a phone, not so much a watch.

Like how all those who haven't don't their research are mocking sparklehedgehog who is in fact totally correct. This isn't helped by Apple having useless nomenclature (anyone remember 'the New iPad' that wasn't new after just a few months being replaced by the iPad with Retina Display!) - there doesn't appear to be a good way of telling apart Series 0 and 1 products, Series 0 is a good name in this case for the older 2014/5 model with single core SoC.
paradigm to plewis00
6 Oct 16#30
'totally correct' ? I agree, taking opinion aside.
I'd disagree that the first gen (series 0 seems the accepted term) is unusable. Since watch OS3 has been installed it's improved immensely. I've got a Series 0 and have tried the 1 & 2 and I'm still more than happy to keep hold of this one for now. I've no need for the features offered in those versions and the speed of the 0 is just fine for me, for from unusable.
Is Series 1 faster? Yes
Is Series one the better choice is you are prepared to add an extra £60? Yes
Kebabselector

No, there are 3 series. The original watch launched last year is effectively "series 0". The new Entry level one this year which is series 1 has better internals than last years series 0 even though its being marketed as a similar model. The main difference is the 1 features an upgraded dual-core S2 chip compared to the 0. http://www.macrumors.com/roundup/apple-watch/#apple_watch_series_1

I thought the Apple Watch was pointless and a waste of money but my wife had a series 2 purchased via work so she gave me her series 0.
I am now finding it an excellent tool as I don't have to keep getting my phone out of my coat or pocket as I can view the text, reminder, calendar event or notification that someone is at my door just by looking at my wrist. It's a lifesaver when driving, plus being able to answer calls with it or dictate a text with Siri.
Also I updated it to watchos3 and compared it to the new top of the range series 2 and it is only marginally slower, it's not worth paying for series 1 or 2 unless you want the GPS tracking or water resistance.
I can't wait for series 4 and hope they have FaceTime on it.
Maybe referring to this as Gen1 and the new models as Gen2 S1 / S2 would keep people happier with the nomenclature. Apple themselves refer to the 1st Gen version as "the original", but it doesn't change the fact that calling a 2nd generation product Series 1 is pretty daft.
A brand new Generation 2 Series 1 38mm is £269 straight from Apple. Personally if I was going to spend £200 on a smart watch then I would consider the extra £69 to have a model approximately 18 months newer was a sensible extra as it will likely mean a similar increase in the supported lifespan.

6 Oct 16#34
I was interested but now so confused I think I'll wait.
So to be clear which one is this? Clearly NOT the newest with GPS and waterproof but is it Series 0 (some people saying stay clear) or series 1 (with a faster processor and presumably longer life)

You dont need to stay clear, I have one and it works fine and is much faster with watchOS 3.
I'm just a little annoyed it's now worth nothing and I paid a lot of money for it... for a first time buyer it's a steal
Apple done put specs up but am I correct in thinking Series 2 vs Series 1( ie not this deal) are exactly the same processor, meomery ect and basically you are paying extra £100+ for GPS and Waterproof?
Edit - will correct myself - no series 2 has a better processor than series 1 - it is stated on the page I linked

Which is how they should have marketed it, Apple W15 & W16 it is one model a year (so far), not a multiple iPhone release.
The editions should have been
W16
W16 Nike
W16 Hermes

Putting the Apple top 'Edition' watch name above Nike and Hermes makes no sense from a marketing perspective when the Apple one is the entry.

I posted this in the PC World Watch thread and I have tweaked it slightly:
A break down on the models (pricing below is based on the base aluminium model pricing):
2015 - Series 0 'Launch Model' - Launched 24/04/2015. 38mm £199. 42mm £249. (This deal price then minus whatever codes you can find, the RRP originally was the same as Series 1).
Materials: Aluminium, Stainless Steel, Gold.
2016 - Series 1 - Launched 16/09/2016. 38mm £269. 42mm £299. Benefits, faster processor than Series 0.
Materials: Aluminium.
2016 - Series 2 - Launched 16/09/2016. 38mm £369. 42mm £399. Benefits, faster processor than Series 0, screen brightness doubled, GPS, water resistance.
Materials: Aluminium, Stainless Steel, Ceramic.
Similarities between all S0, S1 and S2:
All run watch OS 3, screen resolution the same, heart monitor in all, same charging method, gyroscope, accelerometer, battery life, bluetooth 4.0, wifi (b/g/n), watch strap compatibility.
To add I picked up the PC World deal on a 42mm S0 and my girlfriend 'upgraded' to an S2, day to day using is pretty much on a par, I've noticed Shazam is quicker on the S2 but when tested with football scores updating and just general battery I didn't see any difference.

Whilst you are right that there are 3 versions of the watch, personally I have an original which i charge each night use all day and never have a battery issue. Speed wise, I really don't understand why you would pay an addition 30% (yes only £60) for a bit of extra speed on a device that really isn't that speed sensitive. I guess it depends what you use it for, but as i use mine in a purely professional and health capacity, I don't see the value in an faster processor or battery for me.
£199 is a good deal for a nice bit of tech.

You do know you've actually criticised yourself?
There are three Apple watches, the original watch which people are calling series 0, then there is the series 1 which Apple have basically upgraded their OWN batch of series 0's with a dual processor and dubbed it series 1, (third party sellers like John Lewis, currys, Argos, Very didn't have their series 0 upgraded hence they are selling cheap now) and the series 2 which has the added gps and waterproof!!!

If your wife has an Apple phone and does like gadgets then yes keep it she will be well impressed with it! For me the cons were, no need to dig out phone in public, send text or call when driving, the emergency function on the watch (hold dock button and calls 999 for u and sends a message to emergency contact on whereabouts), the quick access to diary, weather, emails, maps etc. And also the fun functions like choosing faces and also the activity stuff. It's a cool fun gadget/watch.
I don't have the origjnal series which is what this one is. You may wanna consider paying extra for the series 1 for the better processor. If the next Watch OS (4?) comes out I do wonder how the original watch will handle it(?).

ma11wi11

The comments most ppl are making over the original are because they shipped with earlier software. The new software WatchOS3 is available on ALL Apple watches and completely improves the whole thing.
The difference between this old one and the new Series 1 is very minor, just a processor speed increase, which most people will find hard to notice. This deal is a bargain compared to the new Watch and runs like a charm with the new software.

You think reading messages on your wrist while driving is a lifesaver?!?
It's a watch, not a 3GS v 6s, it will be supported for years to come given the Watch hardware upgrades will be minimal compared to iphones themselves, WatchOS wont be dropping models like iOS does per release.
It is a smart move by Apple to tie people into Watch, it assures the next phone upgrade will be a iPhone once they have got used to the ease of use functionality (& why Watch OS was rebuilt) they wont want to leave that, thuus they don't leave the Apple stable. Hopefully they will buy a ipad/mac too (na, crap)
Besides adding a camera to Apple Watch there is very limited things Apple can do.

When I use to use an iPhone I was on 8.4 and could only run watchOS 1.0.1 as the latest. 1)Yes its worth £199 in my opinion but not everyone's. I guess if you have the extra money to spare go for the latest model but for me I'd rather pay £199 for a model that is still great in function.
2) It is version 0, the original model. Or the 2015 model, whichever you prefer to call it.
3) GPS on the latest version "Series 2 - 2016 model" is better, it has a dedicated chip.

I have owned the 'series 0' watch now for 16 months - and seen it develop from original OS - OS2 and now OS3. For what it is meant to be, a companion device to your phone I find it does exactly what I expect of it.
The update to OS3 has improved the usability considerably - and for £199 its at a nice price point for me to recommend - just have your expectations correct with what a smart watch will provide (irrespective of series).
If your the type who has to get latest tech and immediately sees anything else as redundant - sure you wont like this deal - but if you are comfortable with some tech not being cutting edge (not like you can easily tell what series you have on anyway) I highly recommend - apps like apple pay (acting as my oyster card) on the watch, activity tracker and message / whatsapp notifications I find very handy. 1 gig of music on the watch also is great when paired with bluetooth headphones for a easy gym / exercise experience.

Soooooooooo can I get a quick answer here, is this series 1 or 2?

None of them. It's the serie 0, the original Apple Watch. Apple doesn't sell it anymore. Apple only sells series 1 and 2

Groupon are selling these (I think this series) for £189
Is it just me or do others consider this a ludicrously overpriced piece of nonsense. Similar unbranded item are listed around £20 direct from China.

Ok so only just a member of HUKD but have browsed the forums for about 9 years now. We bought one of these apple watches from Argos for a Christmas present. We thought it was a S1 but when it was opened on Christmas day it is actually an S2.
I checked the package and the box says Series 2, the back of the watch says Series 2. It is a series 2 watch. The argos code was for the 32mm space grey and woven strap. Anyone else buy one on here and get a bargain?
Opening post
This one had a 1/3 off though

I have used all 3 models, Series 0, 1 and 2 and feel 0 is and was a waste of money. Save up and wait for the newer versions as this is £199 down the pan

Screen protectors are notoriously difficult to get on without air bubbles though :smirk:

For the price this is a great piece of kit.
More like zero points troll
Serie 1 = original Apple Watch (let's call it serie 0) with processor of Serie 2.
Serie 2 = Newest Apple Watch with GPS and waterproof
I would also avoid 'Serie 0'
You basically have the beta "get it out there" version (Series 0). Don't worry, so do I.. I feel a bit miffed paying over £500 for a watch that is now considered slow and useless.. I'm considering selling it and going back to a regular watch, because we'll have this problem every 12-24 months.
I don't mind doing this with a phone, not so much a watch.
Yes

The Apple marketing around iWatch has become a PR disaster like Samsung batteries
Personally it has a processor, who needs more power ? you are not watching 4K videos...but if we can sell you a upgrade of course we will.

The editions should have been
W16
W16 Nike
W16 Hermes
W16 Plus(?)
Putting the Apple top 'Edition' watch name above Nike and Hermes makes no sense from a marketing perspective when the Apple one is the entry.
lol series 0?
there is no series zero.
the original model which is now called series 1 and this year new model which is called series 2.
when you have no idea about something don't comment.
There are 3 versions.
1. The first watch
2. The first watch with upgraded processor = gen 1
3. The new watch = gen 2
Retailers are off loading the very first apple watch cheap as it has been discontinued. Apple didn't recall them and upgrade them with the new processor, think about it.
I think I'm going to be sick.
£199 is a good deal for a nice bit of tech.
'When YOU have no idea about something don't comment!' Excuse the pun!
I don't have the origjnal series which is what this one is. You may wanna consider paying extra for the series 1 for the better processor. If the next Watch OS (4?) comes out I do wonder how the original watch will handle it(?).
The difference between this old one and the new Series 1 is very minor, just a processor speed increase, which most people will find hard to notice. This deal is a bargain compared to the new Watch and runs like a charm with the new software.
Love it when someone has no idea what they're talking about and comments just to advertise the fact.
AGAIN damn you Argos for the interest free loans.
Another £10 return on the train to collect it, but still £1 a day for a watch that's hands free (I hate bluetooth headsets). I've gave up the car, using buses, birthday soon, flu all week and this will also be xmas to myself too
Damn damn damn HUKD has now got me buying my own expensive deals! lol
Unfortunately the 38mm £199 version has sold out at very

It is a smart move by Apple to tie people into Watch, it assures the next phone upgrade will be a iPhone once they have got used to the ease of use functionality (& why Watch OS was rebuilt) they wont want to leave that, thuus they don't leave the Apple stable. Hopefully they will buy a ipad/mac too (na, crap)
Besides adding a camera to Apple Watch there is very limited things Apple can do.

What happened to 2 days reservations ?
At least you can use the S2 standalone and swimming.
reserved mine again lol same store, had a cold break in and travel 30 miles today was a nono, good to hear charges quick, thanks !

I was looking at the JL site, the have the Gen 1, the Series 1 and 2.
Apple products shouldn't be allowed on this forum. Just an opinion
EDIT: where do you find the setting? I read it's a hack in the backup file not just a setting.
touch and in

quick questions:
is this worth £199?
Which version is this?
Am I better off getting a different version as I want this to use as a GPS for a golf app along with the usual things you can do on apple watches
2) It is version 0, the original model. Or the 2015 model, whichever you prefer to call it.
3) GPS on the latest version "Series 2 - 2016 model" is better, it has a dedicated chip.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Watch#Hardware
Also my wife loves hers as it can be set to display a different photo from an album of your choosing with every raise and lower of the wrist.
